  • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - TBI & Racing: A "Breathless Performance"
TMDS, BIRN, TBI Survivors Network, Race4Time, The Brain Injury Association of America, The Brain Injury Association of Indiana, Breathless Performance Racing, John Mills Racing, 'Over The Wall' host Jean Kinser Dana, Dr. Kevin Butterfield, Ernie Francis, "the remarkable" Ernie Ty Francis Jr (Trans Am Champ now, and future NASCAR Champion - I called it) have united to 'form' an auto racing 'team' to promote Brain Injury Awareness (I'll slide Recovery in, eventually...). TOO COOL, and so needed.  The intent is to provide information, discuss TBI with fellow Survivors who literally "banged their head against a wall", bring our everyday Brain Injury Family to the race tracks, meet the drivers and be guests, promote 'Guest Passes' to events for donors, and, well, much much MUCH more.  BI Awareness where it needs to be - Racing, of the most popular sports world wide.  The NFL can avoid the serious condition with a marketing 'ploy' all they want, but Racin' is the true 'game' across International Date Lines. Join me tonight, and of course Sam Way, as we sit down with the Francis's and discuss racing, BI's and the future of Awareness.  Doc and Jean are expected to join in, and share a lot of good news.  Have I mentioned South Africa?  Gina Gee is literally prancing around the Cape, awaiting a Skype call in tonight.  Me too.  She's an Angel of Hope, Mercy and Life.  Not as is, but as will be.  Uh, my staff of "one" currently has been a bit over worked this week.  It's Water Ski time for RHI Sports this week approaching, as is time with Dr. Dawn Neumann and the new IU Interface Program of Imagining Research.  Plus, its Father's Day, and Pop and I always go to a baseball game if possible. So, take me out to the ballgame, and bring me back in time for Racin' tonight.

  • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - TBI "Real" Drive? John Mills is Racin' Again!
Gentlemen, start your engines!  John Mills, Dr. Butterfield and more professional racing drivers will join TMDS tonight, in explaination of the trauma already built in behind the wheel - before the start of the race.  Are Race Car Drivers aware of the possible complications of being the fastest?  Yes, kinda.  But like any pro, in any profession, they are out to do their best - regardless of the 'chuck holes' in the way.  And in racing, where the up-close speeds, dramatic side-by-side racing can take its toll even with helmets and all the safety put into the cars, folks still crash and burn. A helmet or harness straps don't necessarily stop the sudden impact, causing a shift in the brain. Fans eww and ahhh, but once the debris is cleared, if's back to racin'. John Mills is returning to Trans-Am racing, after a horrific wreck at Mid-Ohio Speedway in 2008. You'll enjoy his talks, his story, his survival and effort.  And our recent efforts!  John is prepared to return behind the wheel of Trans-Am Auto Racing and, well, as the legendary Tom Carnigie would say "And He's ON IT!"  With Dr. Kevin Butterfield, we wish to coordinate and discuss our efforts to do just that.  Me? "Race4Time.org" but one baby step at a time, such all TBI recovery.  The sanctioning bodies, race tracks, TBI Survivors Network, Brain Injury Network, TMDS and all of us in concern will unite our engines. By GOD, after all this work and effort, its time to stick Brain Injury Radio onto the Starting Grid and "they're off!"  (424) 243-9540 to talk, from 10 pm tonight until late.  I'll be on the track until 2 am (EDT), finishing up my first 8-hour radio endurance race this weekend. Anybody seen that Caution Flag?

Join the TMDS Cannibas Cures Carousel, grab your pony or unicorn or tiger by the tail.  The last in a four part series on Medical Marijuana, the rights, the wrongs.  Uh, pass the bong!     At least a dozen or more Medical Marijuana support folks of very high, and not so 'high' but high caliber guests will openly discuss the positives about 'pot, er, ah, cannabis.  Hemp.  Weed. Mary Jane.  "Just Say Yes!"   We are comning!  TBI Survivors, parents of Epilepsy stricken children, cancer kids and much much more. Debbie Wilson and Sue Root will help control TMDS's "Hoosier Hooter One" as we spin the merry-go-round.  Hold on tight.   Expected with Sue, Debbie and Jasmine are Jason Cranford of the Hope Foundation, NORML,, Paige Figi Realm and parent also with epileptic child, Drew Bright a Florida Activist, Jeanette Bokland a Cannabis activist, Kara Kampmeyer of the Angels of Mercy, Joe Cain - radio host and Michigan Activist, Amy Case King of Texas NORML, Mo Barnhart, Dahlia's Law whose daughter has cancer, Renee Petro Cannamom whose son has rare seizures disorder F.I.R.E.S., and more.  Of course co-host Sam Way will chime in from Canada - my inspiration.  Get a ticket, two for a 'free' and we spin around the Cannabis Cures Carousel. • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - Medical MJ; NORML or Not
Part II of: TMDS Declares May Med MJ Month!   I'll start with TBI's, and most BI's see life usually more 'gingerly' thru small amounts of marijuana intake.  If you've never experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury, then you have to take out word for it.  If not?  Go experiencing you're own TBI is an option, or with an open mind (weed or no weed) listen to the guests, and be a caller.  Tonight is your night to express your opinion on the positives of Medical Marijuana.  Patient Rights tops my list, not the buzz. I mean, if a buzz felt required by my inner soul any more, I can sit, duck my head, spin it real fast over and over and I will guarentee you I will catch a bigger buzz than you could ever imagine, or want.  So, I won't proceed witht he demenstration.  Take a toke to calm my nerves, slow the focus (so I have some focus) and enjoy the moment?  You bet ya.  Privately?  People don't enject daily insulin shots in public do they? Ms. Sue Root, mother of TBI Survivor Amy Root will join us again, God allowing so.  Amy had a rough week, but could she of use Med MJ to calm her siezures?  Not in Florida.  Besides, I dunno, but her Mother thinks so.  And Doctors and friends.  THE Honorable Kevin Phillips, host of WTF on this network joins us, giving a military aspect on Med MJ.  The Marine may surprise ya!  NORML is in the fold, as I've been in contact with the Indiana Chapter and National Chapter in D.C.  Looks positive (I like positive) for a call.  An extended offer goes out still to Montel Williams for the 25th Memorial Gala, still awaiting a reply.  But Sue's been hard at work, as is Debbie Wilson, who is away this week at a Conference on   Patient Rights.  Debbie will return next week, and will ROCK as always. Sam Way, where are you? I best call Canada

  • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - PEER Mentoring, TBI Style & Sam Way
Tonight on Brain Injury Radio, let's talk PEER Mentoring for folks with brain injury.  And, how to become one.  I'll set up class, as taught by the Dr. Lisa Thompson Family Education Center and TBI Survivors Network.  Personally, I've taken both classes (many times - repetitive action promotes a mind set).  I'll also toss in Support Group information - how to start, methods, ideas and more.  The book I began the East Central Indiana Support Group comes from BIAA, IBIA, and Virginia's Brain Injury Association (always good to get many information guides, I believe).   Tammy D'ercole is in the Downtown Milton Studio's; inspiration and ways of hope has stormed the building (you should see the new tools in my toolbox)..  Dr. Kevin Butterfield will call in from Indianapolis, or Michigan, or Alabama, or where ever Race4Time and Wellness Racing has taken him this week.  Sam Way, possibly the most miraculous individual I've ever met, is expected to call us from, uh, a way's up north in Canada.  Sam is soooooooooooo cool in my world, never a bad word to say and endings polite.  Personnally, I've lost some memory ways, thought ways and bonding ways that I'm rediscovering through Sam Way.   Quietly and without knowing, Sam has become my PEER Mentor. Also, we will look into the life of Michael Coss, A future guest, the Canadian's experience will ROCK your world of hope, faith, inspiration and trust.  His family support made it happen, and of course Micheal's drive to thrive.

  • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - Visions of Victory Gala
TMDS 'cast' ROCKED deep inside the the Brain Injury community, as well as the multi-trauma's that affect every day life of Survivors.  The true, inspiring, driven, athletes who represent the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana Sports Program.  In Celebration of the 19th Annual event at Crane Bay Event Center in downtown Indianapolis.  Ms. Tammy D'ercole was my date, all dressed in lovely (yes, no hat for me - even a jacket!) as over 200 star lighted guests, honoree's and supporters of the Para-olypics gold medal winners, to wheelchair competitors of all designated sports, skiiers (me), blind baseball players, fencers, rowng and kayact, basketball and so many more.  Yep, Miracle Baseball mades its initial representation.  In all, with the Athleticly Adapted Heroes, Doctor super stars of today and tomorrow and wealthy businessmen supporting aside, it was a "inpirational, enlightening, hope instilling, tearful and joyous, laughter and 'down right fun" a "couple" representing braininjuryradio.com at table #11 was overheard saying.  Jake Patrick directed his event in prime time style, with limos normally reserved for nearby Lucus Oil Stadium patrons outside.  Jacqui Kapinowski, was honored with the 2014 Visions of Victory Award, which will sit in her numerously decorated personal trophy case.  Wait until you hear her, and yes, you will personally one day soon, and in an event interview with yours truely.  Also, Mr. Patrick, Emmy and Peabody Award winning Emcee Karen Hensel, fencing extrodinare winning- student Cat Bouwkamp and more.  So much to tell, and a fine assistant to share with me.   We wish to hear any efforts, athletic or recreational endeavors or thoughts for trauma lives, who live on the edge, because they've already walked a tight rope, and do daily.  Like you, like me.

  • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - Spring Cleaning Time; Our Mind Too
Lot's and LOT'S going on this week with TMDS "Staff" as the long (and I mean LONG) Winter sky turns to Spring Sunshine, and of course April Showers.  If I was on the 'Spring Time' basketball team, months ago I'd called  for 'intrusion'  of snow, and down right require a Technical Foul on the play of recent 'Artic Cold'.  Inside all winter long, our minds seem to buckle up, kindness can turn into snide.  Our TBI's get in a 'rut' participating in the Brain Injury Game. (like my Pacers ball season is going.)   So, let's Clean Them Out a bit tonight, and all week long.  Take advantage of the situation, instead of a stare into tomorrow.  Clean House!  As my dad always says "do the best you can, with the tools you got."  Whats your tools work on?  A garden, the yard?  Open the windows and just breathe?  There are moments felt I'm truly 'Racing4Time" , or am I already on 'overtime' in life participation?  Do you plan to live for the next day, or yet, the moment?   Dr. Kevin Butterfield is again in the seat with me, and Tammy D'ercole 'getting closer' to Downtown Milton Studio (my date for RHI Gala - now I'm lucky).  Quite a Stroke Survivor with a word of hope, beautiful inside and out.  So pretty.  Speaking of which, no 'Out of Africa' just yet - for you guys.   I'm on it, our first interview plays tonight with the lovely Gina Gee.  She's sweet, watch us put this story together.  More comming - trust me.  These South African's need to hear our voice, understand we Brain Injury Survivors ARE people still; yep, one creation per heart.  No longer labeled insane and grouped as one.

  • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - Out of SOUTH Africa!
Ever been to Africa?  Or, watched classic movie "The African Queen"?   How  about ''Out of  Africa"?  This week, I did all three at once, because I met Gina Gee, a beautiful woman with a TBI from South Africa who was a professional horse trainer/rider until a 'wild', or, 'terrorist' horse  (as Gina referred) toppled on her head one afternoon 4 years ago.  A darling, extremely understandable BI Survivor she is, and you will see why.  She needs a few words from other Survivors, as unfortunately, she has , none.  Except us for now.  Listen, hear, burl up, probably  saddle up too!  Its quite a ride.  She stayed up very late for this show, let's not disappoint her or OUR South African 'family' members with words of encouragment and assistance.  Seems, they have none.  An absolute Angel with wings, travel with me.   Dr. Kevin Butterfield often travels with me, and jumped off the plane as well.  NeuroFeedBack is a knowledgeable request, and yes, it came "Out of Africa".  Of course, we will Race4Time!!!!  Trauma Sports Director Dr. Butt said we are. Mr. Jake Patrick, Sports Director of RHI Sports, will stop by early to give up dates on next weeks Sports Gala - it ROCKS so much.  Yep, Tammy and I will be there.  Speaking of Tammy D'ercole, my "current" Co-Host, special friend and fellow Traumatic Life Survivor joins us all night long.  Yes, all night - my style!  Working on perhaps her own offering on BrainInjuryRadio shows, Tammy brings so much to the table.  She will bring her thoughts, ideas and I'm hoping some she brings is fresh food... If our darling Belinda checks in, we will be around the world in 180 Minutes!

  • 'The Matt Duffin Show' - Race4Time, Wellness Racing, TMDS Unite
I didn't give in, no no no.  TMDS has always been sponsor free, because my TBI plans wish only to advertise for Recovery, Awareness, Family & Caregiver Care and period.  Nothing else.  I'm working on good sponsors for the show and TBISurvivors Network.  Yep, its taking a while, but God granted me patience during recovery.   A trip to the bowling alley and dinner a couple of days later last week seemed to have sealed the deal in a fantastic Brain Injury Awareness sponsor.  Auto racing and brain injury's seemingly coincide, especially before the era of more saftey.  At one time man sped an extrodiany 133 MPH with only an open face helmet as protection.  And a concrete wall for fans.  Death, or TBI was weekly events as the strucken crowds cheered the finish. Kids are born with problems, or develovpe them early on.  They too can be in your car when a drunk driver rammed you.  Drasticly and traumaiicly injury before they may be old enough to realize such, the stricken family finds themselves hospitalized as well.  That's where Race4Time.org speaks of survival we recognize, yet not even us can picture a childs shoes. Also, Wellness is kicking in some allowing, our brain injury society to join them, maybe we together can shout listening words to society, such as the NFL does,  As Survivors and Caregivers, we save lives, such as Trauma Surgeons do.  When you are a fan (ok, he's an owner) like Kevin Butterfield's and TMDS Staff - we enjoy watching the greatest sport known to mankind - auto racing.     And get this: Kevin put us on the roster to Race4Time, live TBISN get to join in on a media racing event, Lot's for us to drive ourselfs for - Awareness and Recovery!!!!  Sponsor's will start rolling in, be part of us as we grow.  Wonder if I'll get Black Flagged for being silly?
