In today´s episode Matt speaks to Nathan Gardner. Nathan has been in the movement/fitness space for 35 years. He is a former international skier and has been a Pilates educator for 20 years. 

The pair discuss what they feel Pilates is and, perhaps more importantly, how to manage client expectations to produce the best possible outcome and experience for that client. 

The conversation covers the many different approaches used by the modern Pilates teacher and the importance of staying open minded to new approaches and accepting that different paths can achieve the same result. 

The discussion also touches on the camps that have appeared within the Pilates community, particularly online and how labelling stuff right and wrong can be confusing for teachers and students alike (let’s all play nicely together).

Rosemary Davies is a counsellor for older adults. She did her masters degree on the effect of counselling on this population and has just started her PHD looking at counselling and dementia.

In the episode Matt and Rosemary discuss why older adults seek out counselling and what services are available for them. They talk about attitudes towards older people and how this has a direct impact on the mental wellbeing of people as they age and how these vary globally.

The conversation then moves onto the impact this pandemic has had on older adults who are suffering physically and cognitively from this forced isolation from family and friends and a lack of movement. 

Rosemary then shares her insights into what dementia is and how it is diagnosed, advice on what  that diagnosis means and most importantly how we can best serve people with Demntia.
