Behind the Screen: The Impact of Cyberbullying on Adolescents

Target Audience             This activity is targeted toward primary care physicians and advanced providers.

Statement of NeedThis will be a two-part podcast that will focus on the psychological effects of cyberbullying and AI companions. This will be specific to adolescents and teens. As a result of the growing prevalence in digital engagement, a by-product has been cyberbullying. The psychological effects of cyberbullying are unique in that they differ from traditional bullying due to the anonymity and permanence. Additionally, with the growing popularity of AI companions a second podcast will address this topic. Both podcasts will address the psychological effects and provide tools for providers to use to screen for subtle signs as well as resources.

Objectives 

• Define cyberbullying and distinguish its varying levels of severity.
• Describe the psychological effects of cyberbullying and differentiate its impact from traditional bullying in pediatric populations.
• Identify clinical indicators, behavioral signs and psychosocial cues that may suggest that a patient is a victim of cyberbullying.

Alzheimer's Disease Early Diagnosis and Management

Statement of Need A special report of Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures published in 2017, indicated 4 out of 5 Americans would want to know if they had Alzheimer's disease before it impacted their life. With the aging population the incidence of Alzheimer's is growing, according to the Alzheimer's Association over 7 million Americans are living with AD.

This program will focus on screening and dx of AD in the early stages especially in pc offices, where patients will first present with cognitive symptoms. Additionally, this podcast will highlight the new blood biomarker test recently approved and its indications.

Objectives 

• Differentiate between normal cognitive aging, mild cognitive impairment and early-stage Alzheimer's disease.
• Identify appropriate cognitive screening tools for use in primary care and their role in the early identification of Alzheimer's disease.
• Explain the mechanism and clinical relevance of blood-based biomarkers in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, including the current guidelines and emerging practices.

Current practice often reflects underuse of multimodal pain strategies, inconsistent application of opioid prescribing guidelines, and limited screening for substance use disorders (SUDs) in youth. This educational activity addresses the gap between current and optimal practice by enhancing pediatricians' competence in evidence-based opioid prescribing and their performance in implementing risk mitigation strategies in clinical settings.

Statement of Need This podcast will provide an overview of the diagnosis and management of Parkinson's disease including screening guidelines to improve early recognition. In that early symptoms of Parkinson's disease can mimic other conditions, for early recognition a review of this will be highlighted. According to the Parkinson's Foundation, there are approximately 90,000 people in the U.S. diagnosed with Parkinson's each year, which represents significant increase.

As the prevalence of pediatric obesity is on the rise, the need for effective, evidence-based treatments is essential. Statement of Need This podcast will discuss the latest guidelines as related to the screening for colorectal cancer (CRC); it will address the types of screenings and indications. Additionally, the progression of CRC will be discussed as well as risk factors. In that CRC is the third most common cancer (not including skin cancer), it is important for providers to be aware of the latest screening guidelines and recommendations for optimal patient care.

Statement of Need With the 2023 DEA regulation changes, physicians can now treat patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) without requiring an X waiver. As the demand for treatment providers rises, primary care providers are pivotal in addressing this gap by initiating OUD treatments. Given that primary care often serves as the first point of contact within the healthcare system, it's crucial for providers to identify patients who could benefit from OUD treatment. However, many providers fail to recognize these patients and may refer them elsewhere, missing opportunities for immediate care.

• Describe screening guidelines and key diagnostic criteria for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
• Discuss effective medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder (MOUD).
