Meet Tansu is back and we had a great conversation. Owner and Bladesmith of Tansu Knives and Hunter Valley Blades, Mert has a unique perspective in the knife making game. Born in Turkey, he moved to the US as a chef, met his wife in the hospitality business and decided to take a chance on living in Australia for a bit. Life was good and the slower pace allowed for more free time. So after years of collecting and using knives Meat had the opportunity to take a class and his rise as a world class knifemaker took off. 

The conversation on creativity and the similarities between cooking and knife making was an eye opener for me and is great philosophy for any maker. We talked about The international Wootz Society and all the  great events coming up in Australia. And the podcast he’s on called Knife Making Down Under and the importance of it for Australians during lock down. A lot of fun and I look forward to seeing Mert and the guys next year at Blade.
