We provide opportunities for young and old to spend time at Jesus’s feet like believers of old. We provide opportunities through personal and group study of God’s Word. Then, in turn, God’s people will grow and mature in their trust in Christ.

Through the faithful use of the Gospel in Word and Sacraments. The place where we primarily do that is when we gather together in worship. Yet those means by which God gives us his undeserved love are more than connection makers. They also enable us to bring glory to God our Savior in all we do.

An Epiphany message on Matthew 3:13-17 preached at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Maitland, FL on January 12, 2020.

This Christmas season we have examined God’s breathtaking love with wonder and amazement. We have seen how God’s love for the world—and for us—moved him to send his one and only Son to be the greatest Christmas gift we have ever received. We have seen how God’s love lasts long after Christmas and how nothing will separate us from God’s love. In Matthew 2, we see how God reveals that love for the nations. That love is not just for us, but every nation, tribe, culture, and background. Lord, help us to reveal that light in our lives to the people of our communities and world!

As the final hours of another year and another decade slip away, we look back on a time filled with challenge and success, sorrow and joy. Through it all, however, our gracious God and his love in Christ has been with us every step of the way. In times of trouble and sorrow and suffering, in times of joy and celebration and peace, our Savior has been with us and has held us in his almighty, loving hands. The promise that nothing will separate us from the love of Christ continues as the old year and decade comes to a close and a new begins.

So quickly the trappings of Christmas disappear. So quickly the season’s trends become after-Christmas clearance. So quickly the momentary peace that we enjoyed on Christmas disappears with the post-Christmas rush towards the New Year and a return back to the busyness of daily life. 

For Jesus, the months after Christmas were dangerous. He and his family had to flee for their lives when he was no more than a toddler, because a wicked king wanted him dead. Yet our Savior was saved to save us. Why? God’s love that will not be put away.

At Christmas, God's people rejoice that the Word became flesh, that Jesus Christ was born truly God and truly human. So come to the manger and see the eternal Son of God born in time as the son of Mary so that in flesh he might free you from the bondage of sin! Come and see why this Child was born to save you! Come and see the great gift of God’s love for you!

On Christmas night, Jesus is born because God so loves you—yes, sinful, broken, hurting, hopeless, feeling like I’ve lost my faith you. Christmas is proof that God loves the world, that God loves even you. Peer into the manger and hear what these words of our Savior mean, “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Peer into the manger and see God’s unconditional love for the world, God’s unconditional love for you.
