  • Nobody Layers Vocals Like NCT 127 | Anatomy of a Song

In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I dive into NCT 127's vocals through "Love Song," "Focus," "Boom," "Love Is a Beauty," "Back 2 U (AM 01:27)" and "Superhuman."

Rather than focusing on individual vocal moments, this episode explores what makes NCT 127's music feel so rich in the first place: the harmonies, vocal layering and intricate arrangements that have become a hallmark of SM Entertainment's sound.

Listening to the isolated vocals reveals just how much detail is hidden beneath the production. Every song is packed with stacked harmonies, countermelodies and subtle vocal textures that transform already great songs into something even more rewarding on repeat listens.

  • MAMAMOO Are 4 Great Soloists... But Not 4 Great Harmonisers? | Anatomy of a Song

In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I revisit MAMAMOO through "Decalcomanie," "Destiny," "I Miss You," "Paint Me" and "Where Are We Now."

There's no denying the quality of the individual singers. Every member brings exceptional tone, confidence and control, making MAMAMOO one of K-pop's strongest collections of vocalists.

What surprised me, however, was how rarely the harmonies became the standout moment. While the lead lines consistently impressed me, I often found myself wanting richer, more adventurous vocal blending that matched the calibre of the individual voices.

It left me asking an interesting question: is MAMAMOO at their best as four outstanding soloists rather than four natural harmonisers?

  • The Mnet Voting Manipulation Scandal Was More Calculated Than I Ever Imagined, TREASURE's Junkyu Hiatus, Mark Responds & More

In today's episode, I take a deep dive into the Mnet voting manipulation scandal, and the more I learned about what happened behind the scenes, the more shocked I became. From the scale of the manipulation to the people affected, it's one of the most fascinating and frustrating chapters in K-pop history.

I also discuss TREASURE's Junkyu announcing a hiatus, Mark's latest response to his recent controversy, and Sophia's recent comments about Manon, sharing my thoughts on the ongoing conversation surrounding KATSEYE.

Plus, Jessica Jung recently performed an old duet she originally sang with Tiffany for the very first time since leaving Girls' Generation, and I couldn't help but wonder whether moments like this are slowly giving us more reason to believe an OT9 reunion could one day become a reality.

A packed episode covering K-pop news, industry history, idol updates and one of the biggest scandals the industry has ever seen.

  • BOYNEXTDOOR's Hidden Vocals Put Them Among 5th Gen's Best | Anatomy of a Song

In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I take a closer look at BOYNEXTDOOR's vocals through songs from their first full album, including "Viral," "06070," "Dive," "I Wonder," as well as earlier tracks like "Amnesia" and "Crying."

Removing the production revealed a group with far more vocal confidence than I expected. From expressive delivery and rich vocal tones to subtle harmonies and impressive consistency, BOYNEXTDOOR continue to prove they're more than just a performance-focused group.

What impressed me most was how naturally the members communicate emotion through their voices. Their individuality is clear, but they also know when to blend together, creating performances that feel effortless rather than overproduced.

  • NewJeans' Individuality Shines, But Their Harmonies Leave Me Wanting More | Anatomy of a Song

In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I revisit NewJeans by stripping back the vocals of "Hurt," "Cool With You," "Supernatural," "Get Up" and "Super Shy."

One thing became immediately obvious: some member have such distinct vocal colour. Whether it's tone, phrasing or delivery, it can beremarkably easy to guess who's singing, giving the group a strong sense of individuality that has become one of their defining qualities.

What surprised me, however, was how restrained the harmonies are. While the simplicity suits NewJeans' minimalist sound, I couldn't help but wonder how much more impactful some of these songs could have been with richer vocal layering and more adventurous arrangements.

  • Mark's Confederate Controversy, EVAN's Mid Debut + Did K-Pop Fans Forget They Loved Fun Music?

In today's episode, I discuss Hearts2Hearts' latest title track and the surprisingly divided reaction to it. It made me question whether K-pop fans really miss the fun, carefree energy of 2nd generation K-pop as much as they claim, or whether nostalgia has become stronger than genuine preference.

I also cover the unfortunate ARrC disbandment, my first impressions of Heeseung's solo debut as EVAN, and why the release ultimately left me wanting more.

The main discussion though is the controversy surrounding Mark after photos sparked debate online, and share my thoughts on the reaction and the wider conversation that followed as well Dreamcatcher's Handong!

I also explore why visuals are becoming increasingly important to a group's success, and whether memorable concepts, styling and identity now matter just as much as the music itself.

  • HEARTS2HEARTS' LemonTang Showcases Remarkable Vocal Growth | Anatomy of a Song

In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I explore **Hearts2Hearts' latest album, LemonTang, and what might be their most exciting musical direction yet.

For the first time, it feels like the group is embracing a true SMP-inspired sound, with richer arrangements, more ambitious layering and far more happening beneath the surface than many listeners might initially notice. Stripping the songs back revealed just how much detail is hidden throughout the album, from stacked harmonies and vocal textures to clever production choices that help bring the songs to life.

What impressed me most, however, was the vocal growth. Comparing these performances to earlier releases, the members sound noticeably more confident, more expressive and more comfortable within the group's evolving identity.

  • aespa's Vocals SOAR Beyond Lemonade, Drama, Dark Arts, Attitude & More | Anatomy of a Song

In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I return to aespa's discography to see whether their vocals continue to impress beyond the Lemonade album.

Using songs including "Shakin'," "Bite," "Drama," "Dark Arts," "Attitude" and more, I break down the isolated vocals, harmonies and vocal textures that make aespa one of the most fascinating vocal groups in 4th generation K-pop.

What stood out most wasn't just the technique, but the individuality. Each member brings a distinct tone, personality and approach to the music, making even the busiest arrangements feel surprisingly easy to follow. Whether it's powerful belts, rich lower registers or subtle harmonies hidden throughout the mix, aespa continue to reveal new details every time I revisit their music.

In today's episode, I review Inkigayo Paris and share my thoughts on the performances, production and overall event, while also discussing the introduction of the Grammy's new Asian music category and what it could mean for the industry going forward.

I also cover Jay Park's recent Twitter crash out, Sophia's statement regarding Manon, Jiyoon's return with a new cover, and the latest reactions to ATHEART's originality controversy.

Alongside that, I discuss RIIZE's new mini album, HEARTS2HEARTS' "Lemon Tang" preview, USPEER's misleading teaser campaign, and ENHYPEN's "We'll Be Fine" Japanese release.

  • Will RIIZE's Vocals Soar and Win Me Over? (2nd Mini Album) | Anatomy of a Song

In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I explore RIIZE's second mini album and ask a simple question: can their vocals finally win me over?

Using several tracks from the project, I strip away the production and focus on what the members bring vocally. From tone and personality to harmonies and delivery, I look at whether the group is continuing to grow musically and how their vocal identity is developing.

RIIZE have always had an interesting mix of voices, but this mini album gave me a chance to hear them in a different light. Some moments surprised me, some didn't, and a few tracks left me wondering where the group could go next!
