Good Morning. Here I am in the Campervan, on the eve of the day of Great Liberation from Lockdown. How long will it last. What is the future. I don't know. All I know is that tomorrow I head out on the road in the van and I will be podcasting through July about liberation of the heart and I'll be hoping to find the ocean on the outside and the ocean on the inside. I'll be telling a few more stories. Thanks for being here.

Part 2 for the weekend before June 29th

I'm beginning a new chapter. the lock down is over so I'm going to try my hand at a liberation podcast. This will be a month of podcasting from the camper van, and hopefully travelling to spots by the ocean. To begin I'm telling a story of a woman who lived on an Island in Lough Erne. And I'm also beginning to say something about the art of storytelling.  I like listening to stories but I also like to reflect on how they are crafted and put together and how they affect us. So I'll be talking about some of those things in the next few podcasts over this week end.

I've lived my solitude in different places. In Warsaw I used to go for long periods of 6 weeks in winter to write. But now a new adventure is beginning. We're at the end of the lockdown podcast, and I'm beginning the Liberation Podcast next week.   And I thought I'd talk about these two places of habitation, to begin the next phase. I've lived my life with two templates of fatherhood. One was the authoritarian figure of Karol Wojtyla who became Pope just as I was outgrowing my youthful enthusiasm for religion. 26 years later when he died I realised that the remote shadow of his influence had always been important to me. But so also had the fragility of my own father's life which ended shortly before the Polish man became pope.  Their deaths were very different. Their influence on me was very different. But both represented some kind of fatherhood for me. Both manifested templates that were rooted deep in my soul. Templates that in some ways shape and govern many aspects of my own life. 

Here's a little meditation on the death of Karol Wojtyla in 2005 which was an extraordinary media event; with television crews from around the world focusing their lenses for days on the window of  a little bedroom in the Vatican  where the Pope's life was ending.

I thought I'd share something about this idea of father, since it's Father's Day tomorrow. A tricky subject to get a handle on. There's so much patriarchy and other stuff tied into the word, but below the surface there is still for me a powerful template that shapes and forms and reforms my psyche every day. Father and Mother are templates in my soul. They are where I find my balance. The come to the surface in real people but the deeper layers of my mind are where they are to be found in their deepest manifestation. I live at the mouth of the cave, with air and  light,  but  at the back of the cave, the father and mother are always there. Stay safe. Talk tomorrow again in the morning. A big meditation on that very  big father-papa-man in Rome known as the Pope. That's tomorrow.
