  • 05.14.17. Comey Comes Under Fire
This week on Middle Theory, we examine the events that led to the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, and the attitudes about his performance on both sides of the political spectrum. As we begin this Mother's Day edition of the program, Matthew Oakley joins us as we discuss a viral photograph that allegedly shows Jimmy John Liautaud, founder of the aptly-named gourmet sandwich chain Jimmy John's, posing in the nude with a shark. As it turns out, the man in the photo wasn't Liataud at all, which didn't prevent false impressions about the photo from circulating. This leads to a discussion about the way that media outlets, while catering to the existing biases of their "Target" listenership, do little to actually persuade those who differ on ideological grounds. We also look at the continuing saga of incidents on board United Airlines flights, and ask the necessary question: how many actual incidents are occurring, versus what we have termed a "Media Copycat Effect" where hot trending stories garner stories of similar interest by attention-hungry news outlets. The latest incident involves an apparent release of cockpit door access information pertaining to United Airlines Flights, which in likelihood had not been intentional. Nonetheless, how will this affect the airline in the broader sense, with other recent news involving controversies with various airlines? Finally, we look at the very controversial dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, which some are calling a "constitutional crisis"... but is it really? One of the primary issues with this is that what Trump did, in terms of the firing of Comey, was indeed legal; additionally, politicians on both the left, and the right, had been critical of Comey's leadership of the bureau, particularly in relation to the ongoing controversy involving his 2016 investigation of the Hillary Clinton email scandal. Has justice been served, or was Trump indeed acting more on behalf of personal concerns, which might have involved the present investigations into Russian involvement in the U.S. election? • 05.05.17. Trump Care Clinches Phase One
This week, the Republican Party is celebrating the House vote on "Trump Care", and the repeal and replacement of Obamacare... but are they jumping the gun? As we celebrate Cinco de Mayo 2017, Bernie Sanders supporters are asking for their money back... and the DNC is saying there "is no right to not have their candidate disadvantaged or another candidate advantaged." Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is still saying that Bernie, and FBI director James Comey, are responsible for her electoral loss; Comey says he fells slightly "nauseous" at the idea that he and his agency influenced the election last year, but maintains that the FBI's investigation of Clinton's email scandal was the right thing to do. Meanwhile, Bernie is laughing... but not at Clinton or Comey, but at Donald Trump, who following the passing of 1/3 of the eventual repeal and replace of Obama's Affordable Care Act, said Australia has "better health care than we do." Indeed, he may have to answer for why he said this about a country with universal health care. We also look at the latest developments with the current Republican plan, as well as what is on the table if the Senate does (or doesn't) pass the American Health Care Act of 2017. • 04.28.17. France: Election 2017
This week on Middle Theory, we look at the upcoming French election, and what it means for the rise of populism in France, and the rest of Europe. We begin this week's dispatch with a bit of discussion in relation to Bill Nye "the Science Guy's" new Netflix series, which discusses climate change (of course) and a number of other science-related subjects. We also look at news of a German soldier arrested prior to committing “false flag” terror attack in Austrian airport while posing as Syrian refugee, and discussion of how Google has authorized contractors to rate InfoWars as “low to medium” quality for search result purposes. Dr. Theodore Postol (MIT Professor, Nuclear Engineer, and debunker of bogus Military claims regarding Patriot Missiles and Air Defense systems) has made a pretty convincing analytical argument that the Syrian air force did not drop the chemical weapon. McNonymous gives us the details, and we also examine the recent controversies at Fox News, and how a recent allegation against Sean Hannity was, as the pundit himself has said, was intended as a "kill shot". Finally, we examine the upcoming election in France, where candidates Emanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen are neck-and-neck. What will the outcome be, and what will that mean for the political atmosphere in France, and the rest of Europe? • 04.21.17. Murder by Social Media
This week we discuss the issues surrounding a horrifying murder uploaded to social media, as well as the new conspiracies associated with it. As we kick things off, we discuss a recent fake news panel Micah participated in, as well as the weird German "spy dolls" which parents who have bought the toys are being told to destroy, lest they be punished. Elsewhere, we have a state chemist who may be responsible for as many as 15,000 wrongful convictions, and finally, Russia's super-secret EMP weapon that, in a bizarre press release, officials say can both disable U.S. aircraft, as well as keep Russian aircraft and bases from being spotted by U.S. surveillance systems. Then we turn our attention to a recent murder which occurred on social media, where shooter Steve Stevens randomly filmed his shooting of an innocent grandfather, in apparent response to a break up. After several days at large, the murder suspect was found, and in a brief confrontation with police committed suicide. What are the broader implications of things like murder, torture, sex assault, and other crimes being live-streamed via sites like Facebook? We also look at the various conspiracy theories that have begun to arise in response to the Facebook shooting, where YouTube users and others have begun to question the "official narrative". Finally, we examine the latest in the ongoing saga of Alex Jones, whose lawyers have recently claimed that he is a "performance artist", rather than really saying and believing what he says on his shows. What does this mean for the thousands of fans he has gained in recent years, among them our current commander in chief? • 04.11.17. Syria Strike, Part Deux
This week on Middle Theory, Donald Trump is praised by a majority of U.S. allies, in response to a targeted strike on Syria in response to a deadly chemical weapon attack. As we begin our weekly dispatches from the MID of things, we begin with analysis of media influences over sports, and a controversial incident that occurred aboard a United Airlines plane. We also examine a tragic school shooting in California, and a number of other timely news stories before turning our attention to the big issues going on in Syria, and how U.S. involvement is changing that dynamic. What message is being sent to the international community, and what will it mean for U.S. and Russian relations? • 04.06.17. Syria: The Line in the Sand
This week on Middle Theory, we look at the troubling developments in Syria, and what this will mean if the U.S. becomes involved. We kick things off with a discussion of how the Russian embassy decided to prank everyone this April Fool’s Day, as well as Noam Chomsky's reflections on the current attitudes among U.S. politicians towards Russia. However, our big story this week involves an apparent chemical attack occurring in Syria earlier this week, history repeats itself as questions over how the U.S. will respond to disturbing images of children and others injured during the attacks. As of the time of this recording, news had not yet broken that the United States would carry out a missile strike against a Syrian military airfield, in the first direct assault on Bashar al-Assad's government.  Now, we wait and see where the chips may fall. • 03.27.17. “Trumpcare” Goes Down

This week on Middle Theory, the continuing saga of the U.S. Russian probe, and Donald Trump's failed attempt to replace Obamacare, take the center stage.

Many would say it has been a bad week for Donald Trump.

Others would say it's been a bad first 100 days for Donald Trump... in other words, his may be the roughest introductory period for any president in U.S. History so far (and hey, Kennedy had the Bay of Pigs). Along with the ongoing efforts to investigate Russian influence in the 2016 U.S. election, Trump and his team suffered a stifling defeat with failure to gain GOP approval for passage of a replacement for Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act. Is this a huge setback for The Donald... or is it his saving grace in disguise?

  • 03.23.17. The Man: Paul Manafort & The Russian Job

This week on Middle Theory, we look at continuing investigations into alleged collusion between Trump's aides and Russia, and how Paul Manafort seems to remain a central player.

This week, we launch into the show shortly after another planned Wikileaks Press Conference, which appears to have been shot down by a DDOS or similar attack (as Assange has claimed in the past). Nonetheless, we are able to provide an audio update on the Wikileaks founder's current operations, before turning our attention to the recent terror attack that occurred in England, along with discussion of a young Israeli Jew that, according to reports, may be responsible for a number of threats made against Jewish centers in America and other countries.

Later in the program, we examine how Paul Manafort seems to remain a central player in the ongoing investigations into possible Russian collusion with Trump's aides during the 2016 Presidential Election. The only individual that might be stranger than Manafort himself is Roger Stone, who claims a second "attempt on his life" may have occurred recently, when he was involved with a hit and run. Was it an attempt to "silence" him, as he has claimed?

  • 03.16.17. The Return of Trump’s Taxes

This week on Middle Theory, Donald Trump's tax returns take center stage once again, as an anonymous leak raises new questions about the U.S. President.

Fresh on the heels of the recent Dutch election, a blow has been dealt to the move toward anti-Islamic populism in Europe, with the bouncing of controversial candidate Geert Wilders. However, conspiracies are what's on the mind of Mr. McNonymous, as he examines a little-known forgotten chapter in the sprawling conspiracy theories pertaining to the JFK assassination. Micah explores the philosophical aspects of the conspiracy, and why it relates to "Fake News" in America today.

Speaking of "fake news", we spend a little time breaking down the bizarre controversy surrounding the release of a portion of Donald Trump's 2005 tax returns. What is most evident, however, is the spin that both sides of the political media are adding to the story, which variously make Trump look "great" or "terrible", like everything else that is ever said about the man.

  • 03.09.17. Vault 7: Year Zero

This week on Middle Theory, we give our breakdown of the recent Wikileaks releases, which highlight CIA surveillance and cyber intelligence.

As we kick things off, Mr. McNonymous and the Doctor Down Below examine the recent Wikileaks release of troves of information about the CIA, which Assange and his organization cite as being the largest of its kind in history. We also pay homage to Alex Jones' previous predictions about similar surveillance in the past, as well as Sergey Kislyak, "the least memorable man in the world", who the Washington Post describes as "a paradox of space and time." You'll soon see why...

Looking more closely at the recent WikiLeaks, Julian Assange has asserted that the CIA Center for Cyber Intelligence has essentially "lost control of the majority of its hacking arsenal," more than several hundred million lines of code that provide "the entire hacking capacity of the CIA." But is there more going on here than even Assange has asserted? We examine this, and much more, on this week's edition of Middle Theory.
