De los vestidos de Charleston a las creaciones de Yves Saint Laurent, el Museo de la Moda y el Traje de Florencia conserva prendas de la dinastía de los Médici y de los siglos XVIII y XIX.

 

El museo, que reabrió sus puertas en 2024 tras cinco años cerrado, ha decidido renovar anualmente las colecciones de la selección dedicada al siglo XX.

"Empezamos con los años veinte, que en esta selección hemos puesto en relación con el orientalismo y otras culturas que se inplantaron en la cultura flapper”, dijo esta conservadora. “Pasamos a los años 30, del gran vestido de noche, tenemos dos piezas de Schiaparelli y dos de Vionnet, llegamos a los años 50 y 70 y cerramos con un triunfo de las lentejuelas de Enrico Coveri”.

 

Las prendas se exponen en diálogo con obras de Alberto Burri, Galileo Chini y Felice Casorati, maestros italianos de la pintura del siglo XX.

La exposición sigue con la moda posterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, y un raro vestido de Yves Saint Laurent, y tres vestidos, que pertenecieron a Ingrid Bergman.

9. Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik outside court waving to supporters

STORYLINE:

Bosnia’s electoral authorities on Wednesday stripped separatist Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik from his position as president of the Serb entity in Bosnia, following an appeals court verdict that sentences him to one year in jail and six years ban on all political activities.

The Central Electoral Commission said that Dodik has the right to appeal, with an early presidential election to be held 90 days after the decision.

The last Bosnian Serb presidential vote was held in 2022.

Dodik’s mandate as Bosnian Serb president was revoked because he was legally sentenced to one year in prison and handed a six-year ban on political activity.

An appeals court in Bosnia-Herzegovina confirmed Friday an earlier court ruling that sentenced the pro-Russia Bosnian Serb leader to one year in prison and banned him from politics for six years over his separatist actions.

Dodik rejected the court ruling and added that he will continue to act as the Bosnian Serb president as long as he has the support of the Bosnian Serb parliament.

He also received support from populist Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic as well as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Dodik has repeatedly called for the separation of the Serb-run half of Bosnia to join Serbia, prompting the former U.S. administration to impose sanctions against him and his allies.

He was also accused of corruption and pro-Russia policies.

Dodik’s separatist threats have stoked fears in Bosnia, where a 1992-95 war erupted when the country’s Serbs rebelled against independence from the former Yugoslavia and moved to form a ministate with the aim of uniting it with Serbia.

An Associated Press journalist captured the moment when a plane dropped aid over the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

From Deir al-Balah, a plane could be spotted flying over and dropping several containers of aid over the embattled territory.

Health officials in Gaza said Israeli forces opened fire on Tuesday morning toward Palestinians seeking aid and in targeted attacks in central and southern Gaza, killing at least 45 people.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military, which has said after previous shootings around aid distribution that it only fired warning shots at people who approached its forces.

The dead include at least 26 people killed in the Morag Corridor, an Israeli military zone where looters and desperate crowds unloaded U.N. aid convoys.

The Department of Health and Human Services will cancel contracts and pull funding for some vaccines that are being developed to fight respiratory viruses like COVID-19 and the flu.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced in a statement Tuesday that 22 projects, totaling $500 million, to develop vaccines using mRNA technology will be halted.

Kennedy's decision to terminate the projects is the latest in a string of decisions that have put the longtime vaccine critic's doubts about shots into full effect at the nation's health department.

Kennedy has pulled back recommendations around the COVID-19 shots, fired the panel that makes vaccine recommendations, and refused to offer a vigorous endorsement of vaccinations as a measles outbreak worsened.

The health secretary criticized mRNA vaccines in a video on his social media accounts, explaining the decision to cancel projects being led by the nation's leading pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Moderna, that offer protection against viruses like the flu, COVID-19 and H5N1.

Infectious disease experts say the mRNA technology used in vaccines is safe, and they credit its development during the first Trump administration with slowing the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

Future pandemics, they warned, will be harder to stop without the help of mRNA.

The wife of South Korea’s ousted former President Yoon Suk Yeol appeared for questioning by a special prosecutor on Wednesday, as investigators expanded a probe into suspicions of stock manipulation, bribery, and interference in party nominations.

The investigation into Kim Keon Hee is one of three separate special prosecutor probes launched under Seoul’s new liberal government targeting the presidency of Yoon, who was removed from office in April and re-arrested last month over his brief imposition of martial law in December.

The conservative's abrupt and poorly planned power grab on Dec. 3 came during a seemingly routine standoff with the liberals, whom he described as "anti-state" forces abusing their legislative majority to obstruct his agenda. Some political opponents have questioned whether Yoon's actions were at least partly motivated by growing allegations against his wife, which hurt his approval ratings and gave political ammunition to his rivals.

"I apologize for causing concern to the people, even though I am someone insignificant,” Kim told reporters as she arrived for questioning. She added that she would sincerely cooperate with the investigation, before walking away without responding to specific questions about the allegations.

Through a heavy police presence, dozens of Yoon’s supporters gathered outside the special prosecutor’s office in downtown Seoul, waving South Korean and U.S. flags and banners in light rain.

Yoon, who was sent back to prison last month and faces a high-stakes trial on rebellion and other charges, resisted an attempt by investigators last week to compel him for questioning over his wife. Investigators said he took off his prison uniform and laid down on the floor of his cell in his underwear before they gave up executing the warrant to detain him. They plan to negotiate with Yoon’s lawyers to arrange a possible questioning.

Yoon and Kim have faced suspicions of exerting undue influence over the conservative People Power Party to nominate a specific candidate for a 2022 parliamentary by-election, allegedly at the request of Myung Tae-kyun, an election broker and founder of a polling agency who conducted free opinion surveys for Yoon before he became president.
