    ++EDIT STARTS ON SOUNDBITE++
"With my European colleagues, we are in Geneva today as part of a diplomatic initiative aiming to contribute to the deescalation of the conflict in the Middle East; and to a lasting settlement of security issues raised by the Iranian regime, starting with the Iranian nuclear program with a military aim which considerably strengthened the last few years, and which raises for Israel, for the countries in the region, but also for European countries, existential risks."

    2. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Noël Barrot, France's Foreign Minister:
"We wanted to open a discussion with the Iranian foreign minister because we consider that there's no final solution through the military way to the Iranian nuclear issue. Military operations can delay it but cannot eliminate it. That is why it's through negotiation that this issue will be solved, we proved it together ten years ago, when with the signature on the Iranian nuclear agreement, we obtained a substantial setback of the nuclear program and so a setback of this threat which weighed on the security of Europeans."

    3. SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Noël Barrot, France's Foreign Minister:
"We consider that this diplomatic initiative must enable to open the way for negotiations, and we got there after close coordination, my colleagues said it, with our American and Israeli partners and with the countries of the region. The Iranian foreign minister expressed his disposition to carry on with the talks on the nuclear program and more widely on every topic. And we are expecting from Iran an openness to discussion including with the United States to reach a negotiated settlement through dialogue to this crisis situation of which the risk for the Middle East region, but also for Europe is considerable."

    STORYLINE:
Giorgio Armani will not be present to take his bows as usual after the upcoming Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani runway shows during Milan Fashion Week, his fashion house announced Friday.
The designer is “currently recovering at home,” the fashion house said in a brief statement that offered no details about his condition.”
Armani, 90, is marking 50 years of his eponymous fashion house this year. He turns 91 on July 11.
”Although he cannot be there in person, he will closely follow every phase of the shows,'' the statement said. His longtime collaborator and head of menswear design, Leo Dell’Orco, will give the closing bows.
The Spring-Summer 2026 Emporio Armani menswear collection will be previewed on Saturday during Milan Fashion Week. The Giorgio Armani menswear collection is scheduled to close the mostly menswear shows on Monday.
The statement said that Armani had worked “with his usual dedication” on the new collections.
Known for his strong work ethic, Armani even spent his 90th birthday at work. During his first live show after pandemic lockdowns, Armani in June 2021 showed off a long scar from surgery to his left arm due to a fall during a visit to the cinema soon after winter pandemic restrictions were lifted.
Nonetheless, he managed to help prepare for that menswear show as well as an Armani Prive couture collection.

"Heat is a growing problem in the United States but really across the world, and people who let's say don't have access to air conditioning or can't afford to run their AC all the time, have other options. So it's important to be thinking about hydration status, so how much fluids you're taking in. Making sure that you're urinating as much as normal, and thinking about access to fans. Fans only work when the relative humidity is actually low, as well as temperatures under 95 or so degrees (Fahrenheit). And then alternatively some counties or municipalities offer cooling centers."

    4. SOUNDBITE (German) Johann Wadephul, German Foreign Minister:
"We view the nuclear program of Iran with great worries. And for Germany, it is especially important that the security interests of Israel - which we are especially obliged to - are protected. And that is what we will prioritize in all further talks."
    5. Wide of ministers leaving
    STORYLINE:
A meeting between Iran’s foreign minister and top European diplomats on Friday yielded hopes of further talks but no indication of any immediate concrete breakthrough, a week after the crisis centered in the Iranian nuclear program erupted into war between Israel and Tehran.
Foreign ministers from Britain, France and Germany, as well as the European Union's foreign chief, emerged from talks at a Geneva hotel about 3 1/2 hours after talks with Iran's Abbas Araghchi started.
It was the first face-to-face meeting between Western and Iranian officials since the start of the conflict.
“We leave the room with the impression that the Iranian side is fundamentally ready to continue talking about all important issues,” German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that "we are keen to continue ongoing discussions and negotiations with Iran, and we urge Iran to continue their talks with the United States.”
Lammy traveled to Geneva after meeting in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s Mideast envoy, Steve Witkoff.
Trump has been weighing whether to attack Iran by striking its well-defended Fordo uranium enrichment facility, which is buried under a mountain and widely considered to be out of reach of all but America’s “bunker-buster” bombs.
He said Wednesday that he’ll decide within two weeks whether the U.S. military will get directly involved in the war given the “substantial chance” for renewed negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Israel says it launched its airstrike campaign to stop Iran from getting closer to being able to build a nuclear weapon.
Iran and the United States had been negotiating over the possibility of a new diplomatic deal over Tehran’s program, though Trump has said Israel’s campaign came after a 60-day window he set for the talks.
