  • Iranian missile hits near homes in central Israel killing two people and injuring 19 others

    STORYLINE:
An Iranian missile struck near homes in central Israel killing two people and injuring 19, Israel’s paramedic service Magen David Adom said on Saturday.
Israel's Fire and Rescue service said four homes were severely damaged.
Iran launched retaliatory missile strikes on Israel into Saturday morning after a series of blistering Israeli attacks on the heart of Iran’s nuclear program and its armed forces.
Israel's assault used warplanes, as well as drones smuggled into the country in advance, to assault key facilities and kill top generals and scientists.
Israel asserted the barrage was necessary before Iran got any closer to building an atomic weapon, although experts and the U.S. government have assessed that Tehran was not actively working on such a weapon before the strikes.
It also threw talks between the United States and Iran over an atomic accord into disarray days before the two sides were set to meet Sunday.

  • Morning scenes at Air India crash site in Ahmedabad
    (14 Jun 2025)
    RESTRICTION SUMMARY:
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Ahmedabad, India - 14 June 2025
    1. Various of the Air India plane crash site
    2. Various of police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel
    STORYLINE:
The flight data recorder from the crashed Air India flight was recovered Friday in what likely will lead to clues about the cause of the accident that killed 241 people on the plane and a number of others on the ground.
The London-bound Boeing 787 struck a medical college hostel when the plane came down shortly after takeoff on Thursday in a residential area of the northwestern city of Ahmedabad.
The plane’s digital flight data recorder, or black box, was recovered from a rooftop near the crash site and India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said that it had begun its work with “full force.”
The black box recovery marks an important step forward in the investigation, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said in a social media post.
The device will reveal information about the engine and control settings, in addition to what the voice recorder will show about the cockpit conversations, Paul Fromme, a mechanical engineer with the U.K.-based Institution of Mechanical Engineers said in a statement.
Separately, the country’s civil aviation regulator ordered Air India to conduct additional inspections of its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners equipped with General Electric’s GEnx engines.
That includes checks of the fuel parameters, cabin air compressor, engine control system, hydraulic system and takeoff parameters, the order said.
Investigators on Friday continued searching the site of one of India’s worst aviation disasters and Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the lone surviving passenger a day after the crash.

    Los Angeles - 13 June 2025
    1. Wide of press conference
    2. SOUNDBITE (English) Mayor Karen Bass, (D) Los Angeles:
"We are here today because the raids have caused fear and panic because they felt empowered that they could shove and cuff a U.S. Senator. How could you come to town and say you are rescuing Los Angeles and you don't even know the U.S. Senator? We're here today because we are clear that we are a test case, and they want to see just how far federal overreach can go. Can the federal government come in and seize power from a state and from a local jurisdiction? How much will the American people put up with? How much would Californians put up with, how much will Angelenos put up with, how much people from all of the other 88 cities in our county put up with? And we're here to tell you that we're not going to put up."

    3. SOUNDBITE (English) Mayor Karen Bass, (D) Los Angeles:
"So think about all that is going on in the world today and then ask yourself why, if all of these troops are deployed here, why are there more military troops in Los Angeles than in Iraq? Just think about that for a minute. So we're here today because we're not gonna let anyone divide us. We're here today to show the world that the real America - what the real America is all about. What Los Angeles is all about and Los Angeles about diversity. Is about embracing the immigrant population, is about celebrating the fact that there are sectors of our economy that frankly would not function if it was not for immigrant labor."
    4. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, (D) California:
"California has the largest immigration population in this country. We are also the fourth largest economy in the world. There is a relationship between those two data points. California and Los Angeles is also the entertainment epicenter. So it is no wonder that Donald Trump brought his production to California. But it is a production of trauma. This is not about immigration reform."
    5. SOUNDBITE (English) Assemblyman Mark Gonzalez, (D) Los Angeles:
"We didn't need federal troops. We don't need marines. We need leadership that respects the Constitution. Trump claimed victory before the National Guard even hit the ground. That wasn't leadership. That's propaganda. And now he militarizes our streets. He unleashes ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to violate due process and tears families apart. Our National Guard took a note to the Constitution, not to one man's agenda."
    6. SOUNDBITE (English) Mayor Karen Bass, (D) Los Angeles:
"There is no termination date, we will see. We are hoping that if the cause of the turmoil ends, which is stopping the raids, then I can almost guarantee you the curfew will go away in short order."

WOMAN: "You can temporarily detain me, I don't care. You're not even in the correct uniform. You're gonna have to detain me. You're not going to take away my rights."
    STORYLINE:
U.S. Marines stationed in Los Angeles stopped a woman wearing a hooded jacket from crossing a bridge on Friday.
The presence of Marines comes after protests erupted last week over immigration raids.
Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman, commander of Task Force 51, who’s overseeing the 4,700 troops deployed by President Trump, said the Marines finished training on civil disturbance and are starting their operations by replacing National Guard troops.
The National Guard soldiers can then be assigned to protect more law enforcement agents on raids, Sherman said.
About 200 Marines out of the 700 deployed to the protests are in the city, Sherman said. They have all undergone civil disturbance training.
