    2. SOUNDBITE (English) Gideon Saar, Israel Foreign Minister:
"Greta, persona non-Greta, received food and good treatment. Israel acted in a peaceful manner. I want to be clear, this persona non-Greta will not be allowed to stay in Israel. Greta departed Israel for Sweden earlier today. Another person departed and two others will leave later today. Member of the European Parliament, Rima Hassan, has so far refused to sign the deportation documents, as have seven others. According to Israeli law, they should be brought before a judicial authority to authorize their deportation."
    3. Close of Israeli flags
    4. SOUNDBITE (English) Gideon Saar, Israel Foreign Minister:
"Greta and her friends brought in a tiny amount of aid on their celebrity yacht. It did not help the people of Gaza. This was nothing but a ridiculous gimmick. A publicity stunt and nothing more. In any case, it's our intention to deliver to Gaza the tiny amount of aid on the yacht that they did not consume."

    6. SOUNDBITE (English) Gideon Saar, Israel Foreign Minister:
"We were informed about UK decision to include two of our ministers on the British sanctions list. It is outrageous that elected representatives and members of the government are subjected to these kinds of measures. I discussed it earlier today with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and we will hold a special government meeting early next week to decide on our response to this unacceptable decision."

They used the civil port for the purposes of terror. They have attacked Israel since October 7th, unprovoked, even though we share no border. They continue to fire missiles and drones at our communities. Israel will continue to fight terror in all forms and on all fronts."

In an online statement, Zelenskyy said Moscow's forces fired over 315 drones - most of them Shaheds - and seven missiles overnight.
“Russian missile and Shahed strikes are louder than the efforts of the United States and others around the world to force Russia into peace,” Zelenskyy wrote, urging “concrete action” from the US and Europe in response to the attack.

    2. SOUNDBITE (English) Greta Thunberg, activist:
"On international waters, we were illegally attacked and kidnapped by Israel and taken against our will to Israel, where we were detained. And then, some of us deported, some are still there. There are very big uncertainties, because it was quite chaotic and uncertain, so I don't really know what's going on. I haven't had a phone for many days."
UPSOUND reporter: "What was the conditions for you over the last few hours?"
"They were absolutely nothing compared to what people are going through in Palestine, especially Gaza right now. And it is this is yet another international, a violation of international rights - adding to the list of countless of such, especially towards Palestinians, that Israel are committing by blocking and preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. That is illegal."

    STORYLINE:
Activist Greta Thunberg arrived in Paris after being deported from Israel on Tuesday and called for more actions to support aid efforts for Gaza.
Speaking upon arrival at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, Thunberg called for the release of the other activists who were detained aboard the Freedom Flotilla. She described a “quite chaotic and uncertain” situation during the detention.
She said the conditions they faced “are absolutely nothing compared to what people are going through in Palestine and especially Gaza right now.”
Thunberg left on a flight to France and was then headed to her home country of Sweden, the Foreign Ministry said in a post on X. It posted a photo of Thunberg, a climate activist who shuns air travel, seated on a plane.
Thunberg was one of 12 passengers on the Madleen, a ship carrying aid to Gaza that was meant to protest Israel's ongoing war there and shed light on the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territory, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the group behind the journey.
Israeli naval forces seized the boat without incident early Monday about 200 kilometers (125 miles) off of Gaza’s coast, according to the coalition, which along with rights groups, said Israel's actions were a violation of international law.
Israel rejects that charge because it says such ships intend to breach what it argues is a lawful naval blockade of Gaza.

    STORYLINE:
A blistering heatwave is sweeping across northern India with temperatures soaring above the normal, disrupting daily life and raising health concerns.
The mercury shot up to 47.3 degree Celsius (117 degrees Fahrenheit) in Sri Ganganagar, a desert city in the northwestern state of Rajasthan on Monday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
The record for the country is 51 degrees Celsius (124 degrees Fahrenheit), set in May 2016 at Phalodi in Rajasthan.
The searing heat is not just a seasonal discomfort and underscores a growing challenge for the country’s overwhelmed health infrastructure. A prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures often causes heat strokes, mainly impacting the poor, outdoor workers, children, and the elderly.
Last year, a heatwave across swathes of India killed more than 100 people and led to over 40,000 suspected cases of heat stroke, as per data from the health ministry.
The capital New Delhi saw its first heatwave of the season with temperatures soaring past 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) in one of the neighbourhoods on Monday. The swelter wasn’t just numerical as the real-feel temperature, or the heat index factoring in relative humidity, was a couple of notches higher.
Ryan Rodriguez, a 22-year-old tourist from the US was seen sipping a lemonade to keep himself cool in New Delhi.
“It’s pretty hot here. I just came from a trip of the Middle East, so I am sort of adjusting to it but [this is] much hotter than Virginia. I have got a drink here, a lemon drink, that’s helping me beat t... [truncated]

    1. Sit down interview with actress Gwyneth Paltrow including the following soundbites:
SOUNDBITE (English) Gwyneth Paltrow - on how she''s changed since she last worked with Matt Damon on "The Talented Mr Ripley":
"Oh, gosh, I mean a lot and not at all. You know what I mean? I think, well obviously, I have kids. I''ve grown up a lot, I''ve lived a lot more, I''ve been through a lot more but I think essentially there are parts of us that really remain the same throughout our lives but it was really nice to get back together with Matt (Damon) and talk about old times. It was fun."
SOUNDBITE (English) Gwyneth Paltrow - on how this role suited her family commitments:
"This was kind of perfect for me because I''m a Mom at home and I don''t like to go away very much and it was just a small part. I got to go to Hong Kong for a few days, Chicago for a few days, work with Steven Soderbergh and Matt Damon again. It was wonderful, it was a great experience."
SOUNDBITE (English) Gwyneth Paltrow - on whether working on this film made her more conscious cleaning her hands:
"About ten years ago there was an article in the New York Observer about where they sent a scientist out to swab surfaces of everything in New York and my brother read it and became obsessed. So for ten years or more I''ve been aware that there''s stuff on everything and there''s germs everywhere. So I''ve always been, since he read that article, a little bit of a hand washer, so this didn''t make me more in Howard Hughes direction."

    STORYLINE:
Several people protesting over immigration raids in Los Angeles were detained and loaded onto a police bus Monday evening as President Donald Trump ordered more National Guard troops to the city.
Protesters were seen standing off with police officers before a police bus arrived for the detained demonstrators.
An initial 2,000 Guard troops ordered by Trump started arriving Sunday, which saw the most violence during three days of protests driven by anger over Trump’s stepped-up enforcement of immigration laws that critics say are breaking apart migrant families.
Another 2,000 National Guard troops along with 700 Marines are headed to Los Angeles on orders Monday from the president.
The protests began Friday in downtown Los Angeles after federal immigration authorities arrested more than 40 people across the city.
The smell of smoke hung in the air downtown Monday, one day after crowds blocked a major freeway and set self-driving cars on fire as police responded with tear gas, rubber bullets and flash-bang grenades.

  • NEW Paul Mc Cartney performs at Rock in Rio Lisboaq
(23 Jul 2003) MC CARTNEY PLAYS ROCK IN RIO -IN LISBON
Rock in Rio-Lisbon, billed as one of the world's largest music festivals, got underway Friday and organizers said they expected 350,000 to attend the Lisbon event, with another 2 billion watching the six days of concerts on television.
Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney kicked off the festival, which runs over two weekends on May 28-30 and June 4-6 in the Portuguese capital. Other acts appearing at the festival, modeled on the original "Rock in Rio" concert that began in 1985, include Peter Gabriel, Britney Spears, Sting and hard rock band Metallica.
The event is being held in a Lisbon municipal park, where organizers have built a 200,000 square-meter "City of Rock".
Previous editions of the festival have sought to raise awareness of social problems and the Lisbon event's slogan is "For a Better World".
Concert goers will be able to watch documentaries in a lecture theater and discuss world peace between gigs. United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is expected to send a video message at the start of the festival and Portugal's three main television networks will go silent for three minutes on Saturday to encourage reflection on social issues.
Security at the event is tight and 1,000 police and private security officers will guard the festival's perimeter. Fans will run three security checks, including metal detectors, before being allowed into the festival. Portugal closed its borders with Spain this week to give added security against a possible terrorist threat during Rock in Rio and the Euro 2004 football championships beginning June 12.
