  • Interview with Paul McCartney in Paris
    (6 Jun 2003)
    18mins approx
    1. Sit dow interview with Paul McCartney. Talks on: his 'Back in the World 2003' tour; compromising himself by speaking out on the Iraq conflict; music to lift spirits; why Paris as his first venue - routing; expectations from European leg of the tour after US - the experience; "to play live is a luxury"; being blessed as a musician; ending the tour in Liverpool; family and ardous schedule; touring like holiday; loves what he does and that why he continues to do it - doesn't need the money; retiring not something he's looking at at the moment; No1 tour in US; age range of his fans and why - mixture of nostalgia and just liking the songs; likes Eminem; never performed live Beatles songs; performing Beatles songs as a solo artist; favourite songs to perform in this show: 'Hey Jude' and a small song he performs as an imaginary with John Lennon written after John Lennon died; playing acoustic - intimacy of it; having his family and friends join him on tour; family man; tour group as family; having Heather join him on tour.
    Including soundbites:
"Very excited, looking forward to it, we have been off the road for a little while now, and just been doing some rehearsals the last couple of weeks and it is great to get back with the band and all the people. I love it."
"Sometimes it is a little bit like a holiday, particularly because we like playing, so that is the little pay off at the end of the day. But the travelling is very good, I mean we don't travel badly, you know. We travel like the presidents of countries, you know it is really posh, so we have great travelling and we are looked after very well and we stay in great hotels, so some people would consider that a holiday and only if you hated it and you were jaded and you thought 'ahhh' I am really fed up would it be arduous, I think people like myself who love it and the band who love it just consider it as something we like doing, so we get out, stay at nice hotels, fly around the world in these amazing airplanes and meet these incredible people. At the end of the day, there is this audience giving you this incredible feedback."
"So yeah, as far as retiring is concerned, it is nothing I am looking forward to or even thinking of. I've always said that as long as people want to come and see me, you know then I will probably do it I will probably feel like doing it. The minute I start to feel like shuffling around in the audience and going "whoa" it is not very good is it. Or the tickets are not selling well then I will get the big message, thing: It is time to go, you know. I never feel like that and the success of the tour last year, you know what I mean it was the number one tour in America and that is not time to go."
"I think that the songs that we do, because they include Beatles songs and Wings songs and some more recent songs, I think they hit a lot of nerves in people, so that the Beatle songs hit two sets of nerves. It is the people kin... [truncated]

  • US and Chinese delegations meet in London to try to shore up fragile truce in trade dispute
    (10 Jun 2025)
    RESTRICTION SUMMARY:
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    London - 10 June 2025
    1. Various of vehicles arriving at UK government building ahead of US-China talks, security outside
    STORYLINE:
U.S. and Chinese officials met in London for a second day of trade talks on Tuesday in the hope that they can eventually reach a deal to reduce painfully high tariffs against each other.
Most of the tariff hikes imposed since U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his trade war are paused to allow trade in everything from tiny tech gadgets to enormous machinery to continue.
Hopes that Trump will lower his tariffs after reaching trade deals with countries around the world have helped the markets rally after falls of roughly 20% from their record high of two months ago.
Shares are back above where they were when Trump shocked financial markets in April with his wide-ranging tariff announcement on what he called “Liberation Day.”

  • Taiwan's US Chamber of Commerce advises island to seek deeper economic ties with US
    (10 Jun 2025)
    RESTRICTION SUMMARY:
    ASSOCIATED PRESS

    4. Wide of Silver at lectern
    5. SOUNDBITE (English) Dan Silver, AmCham Taiwan Chairperson:
“Taiwan must and is remaining proactive in pursuing a comprehensive and reciprocal trade agreement. Measures should continue to be taken to advance shared interests, creating goodwill in Washington, and strengthening Taiwan's own economic resilience. Taiwan should do what it can to deepen access to the US market, reinforce supply chain security, and demonstrate its commitment to high standard trade policies. At the same time, Taiwan should remain proactive in seeking deeper economic engagement with the United States, including continued efforts to secure targeted tariff relief and advance a double taxation avoidance agreement.”
    6. Wide of Wagner and SIlver listening to questions
    7. Mid of journalist asking question
    8. SOUNDBITE (English) Dan Silver, AmCham Taiwan Chairperson:
“I think though that there is a desire in Washington, to see an increasing… what's been termed a 'non-red supply chain,' and for world's democratic partners to further deepen their engagement with one another on all fronts, and that would include defense, and so I think that, you know, our view is that there are still more opportunity for that kind of engagement. Technology in Taiwan is world class and there should therefore be, further opportunity for provision and shared supply chains, but that's something that we might refer you to the defense committee for more detail on.”
    9. Mid of photographer
    10. Wide of AmCham logo
    11. SOUNDBITE (English) Dan Silver, AmCham Taiwan Chairperson:
“…dual taxation avoidance. We understand that the US administration and many in the US are seeking higher levels of investment by critical foreign partners in the United States. And just to an extent, some of the recent policy actions that we've seen over the last months have been directed at that aim, that objective. Our view is that when it comes to Taiwan and the desire or any desire to see increased investment, in both directions, that dual taxation, is a barrier. And it is something that needs to be resolved to further deepen the economic and investment relationship between Taiwan and the United States.”

  • Richard Gere's leads cast in new family drama
    (6 Jan 2006)
    All tapes 5 mins approx
    Tape One
    1. Sit down interview with Richard Gere. Including soundbites:
"My Dad wasn't like that, he was much more open, I never felt pushed by him. I always felt that he did his best to always give us all the opportunities and there were music lessons and we did sports after school and he certainly encouraged us to do anything that made us happy, but no sense of stage mother stage father there. I remember when I wanted to be an actor, I mean they were terrified for me that it wouldn't turn out that well, that I would be unhappy and I would have bad things happen to me."
"She and I have known each other for some time, not really well, years ago she came to stay at my house with an old boyfriend of hers and I hadn't seen her in a while but I thought she was so perfect for this movie. I was delighted that she would do it. Obviously we have a very difficult relationship in this film and it was a bit painful exploring that. There were several scenes that didn't make it into the movie that were pretty explosive, difficult scenes but that is probably the most dysfunctional relationship in this movie, between she and I."
"I don't care about spelling, I'm a terrible speller. I'm definitely the worst speller in this room, there's eight people in this room and i'm definitely the worst one in the room."
    Tapes Two and Three
    1. Sit down interview with Flora Cross and Max Minghella. Including soundbites:
Flora Cross: "I think I would like them to walk out of the movie and to say to each other that the movie about winning it's about the family, that Eliza is trying to make them united again and that it is the family that is really important not winning."
Flora Cross: "He made us really welcome, not nervous, he made me not nervous at all, it was just like I was an actor."
Max Minghella: "Yes, he walked us through it and held our hands. It was great to be around somebody who works that hard an is such a serious actor. I mean besides being a movie star Richard is really committed to the technique of what he does and it's great to be around that and witness that and get that influence".
Flora Cross: "I'm a really bad speller, horrible and I just memorised it so it wasn't hard at all to memorise."
