    10. SOUNDBITE (English) Katie Wentley, Autism Society of America:
"Generally, many people with autism are asked to leave programming or have a bad experience at a pool or learning to swim. Here at Small Fish, Big Fish, they don't turn away anybody that has autism because they are equipped to meet the needs."

    STORYLINE:
The Indian army this week gave a guided tour of some of the key sectors along the Line of Control in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
At one military post, soldiers scrambled to load artillery guns and demonstrated firing precision rounds across the border as troops carried out drills.
The ceasefire reached between India and Pakistan early this month seems largely intact but also gives an impression of constant strain.
The Indian army says it remains on razor-sharp alert to “respond with force” at the slightest provocation.
At another military post perched at 3,000 meters, the army swung into action, preparing to launch mortar attacks on hostile targets as part of another drill.
A surveillance drone hovered above while patrols equipped with sophisticated weaponry monitored barbed-wire fences for infiltration attempts by militants and suspected terrorists.
The militaries of India and Pakistan were engaged in one of their most serious confrontations in decades early this month when India struck targets inside Pakistan it said were affiliated with militants responsible for the massacre of 26 tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir last month.
The hostilities rose as both sides fired precision weapons and missiles to mainly target each other’s military installations and airbases.

  • Ed Begley Jr., Diedrich Bader remember late George Wendt at Gracie Awards
    (21 May 2025)
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Beverly Hills, Calif. - 20 May 2025
    1. Wide of Ed Begley Jr. and Christine Ebersole chatting with reporter
    2. SOUNDBITE (English) Ed Begley Jr., actor: -on late friend George Wendt:
"George Wendt was my neighbor, my friend. I've known him for years. One of the great improv actors out there. Great film actor, TV actor. Lots of theater that he did. He was amazing. I just thought, what a talent. What a huge talent. What a great man. I loved him a lot."
(Reporter: "Can you talk a little bit about things that maybe you learned from living near him that surprised you or that you felt like, you know, illustrated his personality?")
"He was always so kind to my kids and to me. And Bernadette (Birkett) and he both were very generous. We spent many days together and evenings together. We were just literally, you know, one short block away. I mean, like a hundred yards from my front door to his. And so we spent a lot of time together. I moved away a few years ago, but I was next door to him for 26 years. That's a long time. And he was what you call a great neighbor."
    3. Wide of Norah O'Donnell chatting with reporter
    4. SOUNDBITE (English) Megyn Price, actor and Diedrich Bader, actor:
Bader: "Yes, I was on 'Cheers' a couple of times, and he was absolutely fantastic, really welcoming, which is actually rare. He was a lovely, lovely guy, and effortlessly funny."
Price: "I'm just a huge fan, of course, like most people."
    5. Medium of Fortune Feimster chatting with reporter
    6. SOUNDBITE (English) Fortune Feimster, actor/comedian: -on the woman who inspired her growing up
"Weirdly enough, even though I was young, I was obsessed with Carol Burnett. My grandmother used to watch her show on reruns and I would watch with her and my grandmother was very buttoned up so seeing her laugh hysterically at someone was like, 'Who is this person?' I thought she was so magical and I've really tried to emulate a lot of her lightness and heart and funny myself."
    7. Wide of Teddi Mellencamp
    8. Wide of Kyle Richards
    9. SOUNDBITE (English) Kyle Richards, television personality: -on Teddi Mellencamp
"I'm just in awe of her strength and her resilience. She's been just so inspiring to me and to, you know, all of our friends. I don't think I mean, of course she has moments where she has broken down, but I really watched her be so strong, but even more importantly than that, so positive. You know, and I really think that that has had a big part of her healing. You know I never—I don' think she ever thought this is gonna take me down. And even when there was moments when we did not know that, and we got good news a few weeks ago that the immunotherapy was working, I don't know if that's exactly what we were expecting, because some of the things the doctors were telling us. So, when I look at her and how positive and how strong she is, she's just inspired me so much. And she's given so many people hope, not only that they're not so alone, but that they, too, can fight this."
(Reporter: "And advocate for themselves ahead of time.")
"Exactly, and to go out there and get checked. And even if you do, they don't even, the doctors were saying that they don't really even say stage four anymore because when you hear that, you think, 'Well that's terrifying, that's it.' And it doesn't have to be. So I think, I said to her—some day she said, 'How can I go out and talk about this today?' And I said, 'You're giving so many people hope and showing them that you can do this. And when you come out the other side, you have no idea how that's inspiring people.' So, she's just, she's amazing. "

    STORYLINE:
On Tuesday evening, state police confirmed that Corey Boyd, 19, became the fifth of the escapees from a New Orleans jail to be apprehended.
Boyd is accused of killing a person who caught him and others trying to break into a car in April 2024, the Times-Picayune/ NOLA.com reported, allegedly striking the victim with a vehicle before someone else shot the person.
He has has been charged with second-degree murder and pleaded not guilty.
Officials have underscored multiple security lapses, including ineffective cell locks and that the inmates escaped when the lone guard monitoring them went to get food.
The absence of the inmates, many charged with or convicted of violent offenses such as murder, was not reported to law enforcement for hours. Five remain at large.

Mexico is heading to a judicial election on June 1 - it's first ever in its history - where more than 2,600 contenders are vying for 881 positions from Mexico’s Supreme Court down to district courts across the country.
Those on the June 1 ballots won a lottery after being screened by committees made up of people from the three branches of government.
In order to qualify, they had to have a law degree, at least five years of professional practice, write an essay and collect letters of recommendation from friends and colleagues.
Foreign governments, including the United States, and civil society organizations in Mexico criticized the change, warning that it would lead to a politicization of the judiciary and weaken its independence.
The political majority behind the contentious reform justify it as the way to root out corruption by making judges accountable to the people.
Here are some of the candidates:

  • Despiden con honores a tripulante muerta en choque de buque mexicano con el puente de Brooklyn
    (20 May 2025)
