Eurostar has promised direct trains from London to Frankfurt and Geneva.

The cross-Channel rail firm says it will buy up to 50 new trains and will run some of them from the UK to Germany and Switzerland in the “early 2030s”.

The announcement comes as rival firms are vying to compete with Eurostar through the Channel Tunnel. Eurostar says it marks “a new golden age of international sustainable travel”.

Donald Trump will deploy thousands more military personnel in Los Angeles as the president ramps up his response to protests against his immigration raids, the Pentagon has confirmed.

Trump has reportedly ordered the Defense Department to take control of an additional 2,000 California National Guardsmen to bolster efforts to quell demonstrations. They will join the 2,000 guardsmen already stationed throughout L.A., as well as a contingent of up to 700 Marines mobilized by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

As military presence in LA doubles, California Governor Gavin Newsom said he will deploy another 800 law enforcement officers in an attempt to “clean up President Trump’s mess.”

The deployments come on the heels of violent clashes on Sunday night, where demonstrators took to the streets against ICE raids targeting migrants. Cars were set on fire, looting was reported in downtown LA, and 42 people were arrested.

Greta Thunberg on Tuesday called for the release of the other activists who were detained by Israel aboard the Freedom Flotilla.

Speaking upon arrival at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport Tuesday, Thunberg described a “quite chaotic and uncertain” situation during the detention.

Israel deported activist Thunberg on Tuesday, a day after the Gaza-bound ship she was on was seized by the Israeli military.

Footage has captured the moment gun shots can be heard inside a classroom at a school in Austria, before armed police stormed the building to rescue students inside.

This video shows officers evacuating terrified pupils following a mass shooting at the school in Dreierschuetzengasse in the city of Graz shortly before 10am on Tuesday (10 June).

Police confirmed nine victims had been killed, and the perpetrator was also dead. Police said there was only one shooter involved.

At least 28 others were injured in the rampage.

Austrian chancellor Christian Stocker said there were no words to describe the pain being felt across the country following the attack.

The death toll has risen to ten after a school shooting in the Austrian city of Graz, police have confirmed.

Seven students and one adult were among the victims, Graz Mayor Elke Kahr confirmed to local media.

Police confirmed nine victims had been killed, and the perpetrator was also dead. Police said there was only one shooter involved.

Austrian chancellor Christian Stocker said there were no words to describe the pain being felt across the country following the attack.

“The school shooting in Graz is a national tragedy that has deeply shaken our entire country,” he said in a statement.

The country’s president, Alexander Van der Bellen, said Austria was in mourning.

“These were young people who had their whole lives ahead of them. A teacher, who guided them on their way,” he said.

Local newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported that 28 people had been taken to hospital, and four of those patients had been rushed there in an extremely critical condition.

Austrian police confirmed that a major operation was underway in the city on Tuesday morning at the secondary school campus on Dreierschuetzengasse. The operation began at 10am after gunshots were heard inside the school, police said.
