Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has left Israel after being arrested for attempting to break the country’s 18-year naval blockade of Gaza.

Israel’s foreign ministry posted two pictures of the 22-year-old activist on board a plane. They said the flight would take her back to Sweden via France.

At least four of the 12 activists arrested on board the Gaza-bound, UK-flagged Madleen flotilla are expected to be deported on Tuesday, according to Israeli broadcaster Kan.

The group were picked up off the coast of Egypt earlier on Monday morning and taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod, where they were detained. They had been attempting to take a symbolic amount of aid into Gaza.

Kan reported that eight of the activists had refused to sign their deportation papers, meaning they could not be immediately deported.

“Those who refuse to sign deportation documents and leave Israel will be brought before a judicial authority, in accordance with Israeli law, to authorise their deportation,” the Israeli foreign ministry wrote on X.

The human rights organisation Adalah, representing the activists, confirmed they had met the Madleen passengers late last night, after issuing “multiple requests” to access their clients.

At least seven people have been killed in a barrage of Russian drone attacks over the past day, including huge strikes on Kyiv and Odesa, regional officials said.

Two men were killed in Ukraine’s Odesa after a maternity ward was struck in the southern port city in a “massive" overnight drone attack regional governor Oleh Kiper said.

Patients and staff were safely evacuated from the maternity hospital, Mr Kiper added. An emergency medical building and residential buildings were also damaged in the attack.

Four people were injured following one of Russia’s heaviest attacks in Kyiv overnight on Tuesday, sparking fires across the capital according to mayor Vitalii Klitschko.

Over the past day, three were killed in the Donetsk region, one in the Kherson region and one in the Dnipropetrovsk region, local authorities reported. At least 34 people were also injured across Ukraine in total.

This attack comes just hours after Ukraine’s military said they struck two Russian fighter jets stationed at an airfield nearly 400 miles from the border, days after conducting Operation Spiderweb. There was no immediate comment from Russia, but Russian war bloggers claimed there was no damage to any warplanes.

At least eight people have been killed in a school shooting in the Austrian city of Graz, according to reports.

Austrian police confirmed that a major operation was underway in the city on Tuesday morning after gunshots were heard inside the school. Austria’s interior ministry has now confirmed that there are several deaths.

Local newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported that at least eight fatalities have been confirmed. Police said the situation is secure and no further danger is expected after the school was evacuated with everyone taken to a safe meeting point.

The Trump administration is going to deploy another 2,000 National Guard troops to assist in the response to protests against his immigration policies in Los Angeles.

They will join the 2,000 guardsmen already set to be stationed throughout L.A., as well as a contingent of up to 700 Marines mobilized by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

California Governor Gavin Newsom slammed the decision, calling it “reckless” and “pointless,” claiming that only a few hundred of the original Guard troops have been deployed.

Donald Trump has praised his administration’s response to growing anti-ICE unrest in Los Angeles.

Trump said: “Thank god, we sent out some wonderful National Guard. They really helped.”

The Trump administration has deployed 4,000 National Guard troops to assist 700 Marines in the response to protests against his immigration policies in Los Angeles.

Commending the troops, the US president added: "They’ve done a fantastic job.”

The federal deployment comes amid escalating demonstrations against his immigration policies, with the President adding, "We’ll see what happens. We’re headed in the right direction."

King Charles made a memorable visit to Lancaster Castle on Monday (9 June) where he advised 101-year-old veteran Richard Brock to "keep drinking whisky."

The monarch, who remembered Brock from last year's D-Day commemorations in Normandy, engaged in a heartfelt exchange during the reception.

The King also participated in the traditional ceremony of keys" outside the historic castle, a custom dating back to Queen Victoria in 1851 and last observed by Queen Elizabeth II in 2015.

While managing his cancer treatment, King Charles continued his royal duties, also visiting local businesses and the newly created Whitewell Coronation Woodland Garden in the Forest of Bowland.

Simon Calder has issued a warning to holidaymakers over a hidden charge business owners can add onto cards.

The travel expert revealed tourists “have to be aware” of dynamic currency conversion (DCC), a service that offers cardholders the option to pay in their own currency rather than the local one.

“Always go for the local currency otherwise you will be paying a lot more”, he revealed, adding he had to pay 10% extra on a recent transaction after a retailer selected the option to pay in British currency for him.

Calder stressed holidaymakers should not let the “very nice proprietor” choose the DCC option for them, as they often will select the original currency.

“He’ll just say ‘sorry it’s nothing to do with me, it's the machine’. It isn’t, but you’re completely stuffed.”
