A critically ill Mexican girl who could die within days if her treatment is paused has been ordered by the Trump administration to leave the U.S., according to her family and doctor.

Deysi Vargas’s 4-year-old daughter, named only as Sofia in a GoFundMe page, urgently required better medical care for a life-threatening condition and was granted temporary humanitarian permission to enter the U.S. from her home country of Mexico in 2023, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Elon Musk's SpaceX Starship rocket spun out of control around halfway through its flight on Tuesday, 27 May, without achieving some of its most important testing goals.

The rocket system flew beyond the point of two previous explosive attempts, but Starship began to spin uncontrollably around 30 minutes into the mission.

Thousands of Palestinians in the southern city of Rafah, including women and children, ran towards an aid distribution centre where boxes of supplies had been piled up earlier in the day.

Footage obtained by Reuters showed people checking the contents of the box, which included flour, oil, tomato sauce and canned goods.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) reported it had delivered around 8,000 food boxes.

GHF is a US and Israeli-backed group which has been boycotted by the United Nations and other international aid groups, who state that it undermines the principle that humanitarian aid should be distributed independently of the parties to a conflict, based on need.

Police bodycam captured the moment a driver who consumed “at least 20 lines of cocaine” before fatally crashing into a three-year-old girl with his van was arrested.

Footage released by Greater Manchester Police shows officers storming a property to arrest Rawal Rehman, 36, of Lambton Road, Chorlton, whose Mercedes Sprinter van struck Louisa Palmisano on 22 February.

Locating Mr Rehman, the officers tackle him to the floor, where he repeatedly cries “I’m sorry”.

Louisa had been with her parents on a family visit to Manchester when Mr Rehmen’s vehicle struck a tram, which forced the van onto the pavement where it collided with the three-year-old.

Mr Rehman was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Tuesday (27 May) at Manchester Crown Court.

The cuts disrupted PEPFAR, a global HIV programme credited with saving over 25 million lives.

A man has been arrested after a car hit pedestrians at Liverpool FC's victory parade in the city centre on Monday (26 May).

Emergency services were called to Water Street after Merseyside Police were contacted just after 6pm on Monday with reports of the incident.

The car stopped at the scene, and a man was detained, with officials later confirming that 65 people were injured in the incident.

Police said a 53-year-old man from the West Derby area of Merseyside had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences, and driving “whilst unfit through drugs”.

In his first hours as US president, Donald Trump signed an order freezing most foreign aid for 90 days — this included funding to PEPFAR, the global HIV programme credited with saving millions of lives.

Although a waiver was later issued, experts say the fallout has been fatal. The Independent’s Bel Trew travelled to Uganda and Zimbabwe, where people are dying because they can’t access medication and pregnant women fear infecting their babies.

The world had been on track to end the AIDS pandemic by 2030 – instead the death toll is set to triple by the decade’s end.

Speaking to The Independent, Trump defended the decision and accused European countries of failing to contribute to the global HIV response.

Canada is facing a “critical moment” in its history, King Charles said on Tuesday at the opening of the country’s parliament, in an address that was seen as a show of support in the face of annexation threats by Donald Trump.

In a speech to the Senate in Ottawa, written by Canada’s new government, Charles said prime minister Mark Carney’s administration would bond with “reliable trading partners and allies” – a nod to Mr Trump’s disruptive economic tactics.

Many Canadians have seen the King’s two-day visit to Ottawa – his 20th to the country overall – as a symbol of support for a nation that has faced the unwanted attention of Mr Trump, who has both enacted a trade war against his neighbour and threatened to annex it.
