Two twin waterspouts merged off Italy’s northeastern Po River Delta on Sunday (3 August), as strong winds swept through the area.

A tour operator leading an excursion stopped to film the striking scene.

Waterspouts, which are tornado-like formations over water, occur about 500 times a year in Europe, according to the European Severe Weather Database.

Thousands of hot dogs spilled out onto a Pennsylvania highway after a food truck smashed into a concrete barrier.

Eyewitness footage shared by a bewildered commuter on Friday (1 August) shows the frankenfurters scattered across Interstate 83, with one traveller saying: “Oh my god, they’re everywhere.”

The collision occurred after the trailer carrying the hot dogs had an unspecified mechanical problem during morning rush hour, causing it to scrape into the side of a passenger vehicle before it hit the concrete divider.

Four people involved in the crash required medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash caused significant traffic disruptions in both directions on the interstate.

Wildfires in Utah and Arizona, near the Grand Canyon, are producing "fire clouds" that can be seen for hundreds of miles and further fuel the fires.

The Dragon Bravo fire near the Grand Canyon has become the largest wildfire in the continental U.S. this year, consuming 111,000 acres and destroying the historic lodge at Grand Canyon National Park.

The fire is only nine percent contained, as extreme heat and strong winds continue to fuel the blaze, according to the latest update.

Israeli protesters rallied outside Benjamin Netanyahu's office in Jerusalem on Monday, 4 August, calling to end the war in Gaza, return all hostages under a comprehensive deal, and cancel the motion to sack attorney general Gali Baharav-Miara.

Demonstrators gathered outside the building while the Israeli cabinet was set to vote on firing Ms Baharav-Miara, who has sparred with Netanyahu's cabinet over the legality of some of its policies.

The High Court of Israel issued a temporary order blocking the government’s attempt to dismiss Ms Baharav-Miara.

Israel's government has been seeking the dismissal of Ms Baharav-Miara for months.

Families of the victims of a port explosion in Beirut are still searching for justice after an investigation into who is to blame has been repeatedly delayed.

On 4 August, 2020 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate exploded in a warehouse in the Lebanese capital, killing at least 218, wounding more than 6,000 and causing billions of dollars of damage.

A probe into the explosion has been repeatedly stalled by various corrupt officials dodging accountability, but newly elected president Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced earlier this year that completing the investigation would be a top priority.

George Bezdjian, Father of Jessica George Bezdjian, a Beirut Blast victim, told The Associated Press: “We will reach justice because we are still demanding it. We haven’t forgotten. It’s been five years, but it feels like yesterday.”
