Wildfires in Utah and Arizona, near the Grand Canyon, are producing "fire clouds" that can be seen for hundreds of miles and further fuel the fires.

The Dragon Bravo fire near the Grand Canyon has become the largest wildfire in the continental U.S. this year, consuming 111,000 acres and destroying the historic lodge at Grand Canyon National Park.

The fire is only nine percent contained, as extreme heat and strong winds continue to fuel the blaze, according to the latest update.

A volcano in far eastern Russia has erupted for the first time in an estimated nearly 600 years.

The eruption on Saturday of the Krasheninnikov Volcano may be linked to the recent 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Kamchatka, which triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific.

An ash plume reaching 6,000 metres (3.7 miles) was recorded, drifting eastward over the Pacific Ocean away from populated areas.

Danger to life warnings have been issued with trains cancelled as Storm Floris continues to batter the UK with up to 90mph winds.

Passengers are facing travel chaos as trains, flights, and ferries were cancelled on Monday, with a number of “do not travel” warnings issued.

An amber wind warning has been in place since 10am across much of Scotland, and is set to last until 11pm. That is in addition to a yellow wind warning already in place across northern England.

Network Rail Scotland has posted maps showing wind speeds in excess of 90mph, and the Met Office has recorded highs of 79mph, with gusts expected to move east throughout the afternoon.
