Mike and Scotty Live

After taking a summer “off”, I reconnect with Scott to talk about the just-completed subterranean staging yard project. Mike talks about some pros/cons and different characteristics of some commercially available track products, along with the trials and tribulations of building this giant project underneath the existing railroad. Scott brings us up to date on his huge building projects for the Franklin Historical Museum. (This is an audio only podcast this month.)

Listen this month as I chat with Scotty Mason and Dave Owens about the upcoming New England Proto Meet, as well as reminisce about past meets. Dave talks about military modeling, where to find the meet website and what to expect at the meet, which is truly a model train event for everybody. After Dave punches out, Scott and I talk about the RMC article on my layout, and he talks about his upcoming modeling projects for the Town of Franklin. Oh, and a correction, I inadvertenly said that Otto wrote the article, when I should have said it was our buddy Brooks Bentz!

Listen (or view on my Mike Rose Hobbies You Tube channel (https://youtu.be/9ldFgi9F5XI) as I chat with Scotty Mason about his visit to my layout to see for himself what’s been going on with the Crestwood area, the final portion of the Conrail section of the layout that’s now complete. And we then talk about, and see pictures from, a visit to Franklin MA to see the three amazing historical models that Scott did of Franklin’s railroad areas, circa 1932.

Listen (or view on my Mike Rose Hobbies You Tube channel (https://youtu.be/uyAsBVkrz9U) as I have a lively chat with Dan Notley of Yelton Models. Dan has a very interesting and diverse background in modeling in general, but has also developed a thriving 3D printing business that you’ll hear all about. The video also has some images of some of Dan’s work. I’ve used it myself and can attest to the quality.

Our buddy Brooks Bentz comes on the show to talk about his interesting and diverse background in the railroading and transportation businesses, giving frank commentary about the various jobs he’s done starting back with the New Haven-into-PC transition, and including stints with the N&W, the D&H, the B&M, and BN, but that’s just the beginning. We even travel to the mideast! I give a mini-update to the always crazy goings on with layout construction too. We end up talking about the article that Brooks is doing on my layout for RMC.

It’s that time of year again, when the daffodils are popping out and I’m talking with old buddy Dave Owens about the upcoming New England Proto Meet in Springfield, MA (May 30th and 31st.) We discuss his recent trip to western PA for their RPM meet (which bounces from eastern to western PA in alternate years), as well as some of the trials and tribulations of finding the right venue for a meet. More importantly, we talk about this year’s upcoming meet and what to expect there. Rumor has it that I’ll be doing a clinic Friday afternoon…..

Scott and I chat about building large structures, we do some real-time brain trust planning and opinions on certain things about my Foster Wheeler structure that’s under construction, and we talk about Scott’s giant project for a museum in Franklin, MA.

Please note that although there is plenty of audio in this podcast, there is a section where I show and we discuss certain photos. So while you can go to my You Tube channel to view this same podcast, you’ll have to use your imagination during this middle part. If you’re a Facebook Crew Call member you’ve already seen all of these photos.

Scotty Mason is back, grabbing Mike by the lapels he doesn’t have on his T-shirt, and demanding straight answers as to why it’s been so long since the last podcast. In other words, Mike had some “splainin” to do.

And explain I did, talking about the latest updates on the layout, future plans, and all the whys and wherefores of the past few months. Scott also gets into the increasingly fascinating historical (gigantic) model building project he’s doing for his town. We even kick around a couple of old guy things. When you’re done listening, consider yourself caught up!

It’s spring in New England, sort of anyway, at least what passes for it around these parts, and that means it’s time to start talking about the New England Railroad Prototype Modelers Meet again! Our old buddy Dave Owens is back, and we talk about not only how old we are and how long we’ve been doing this, but our chance meeting in Malvern last month, other proto meets we’ve been to, and all the changes with the meet this year. New venue, same great crew running the meet.
