Mind Under Matter

The Well-Positioned Boys of Comedy™ talk about sex.

We had no choice.  It’s episode 69.

What did a couple of scientists learn from watching a billion adult videos?  Why are people turned on by such a variety of things?  What other animals have homosexuals?  Is the most famous position even any good?

Listen to The WPBC™ on your favorite app or watch on YouTube or Spotify.

Less than a month until the Mind Under Matter Campout Festival in Raleigh!

The Mood Stabilizing Boys of Comedy™ take the Bipolar Spectrum Diagnostic Scale.

Click it and ship it!!!  The Influencing Boys of Comedy™ breakdown the history of social media.

Shane and Ramin were very early in their comedy careers when Myspace started to change the way artists could connect with fans.  From humble beginnings, social media has quickly changed the way the world communicates, connects, and entertains.  How many apps have come and gone along the way?  What will be the next hot platform?  How does one decide where to put their energy?  What is the future of social media?

The Juvenile Apes Of Comedy™ swing through the branches of our evolutionary tree to learn about primatology.

What can other primates teach us about cooperation, fighting, status, stress, gender, and human life?

This week we will climb through the history of primatology to discover some of the egocentric anthropomorphizing that has led to a lot of past misunderstandings. Instead of butchering out-of-context research to justify the worst of human behavior, we can look to our hairy friends for clues about cooperation, acceptance, and fairness.

Come monkey around with The JAC™ wherever you podcast.

The Counterintuitive Boys of Comedy™ question our assumptions about seemingly ordinary decisions.

This week The Music Discovering Boys Of Comedy™ discuss musical philosophy and introduce you to the sweet sounds of Desert Honey.

With help from the book ‘The Music Lesson' by Victor Wooten, Ramin breaks down groove, notes, articulation/duration, technique, emotion/feel, dynamics, rhythm/tempo, tone, phrasing, space/rest, and listening.

We close out the show by introducing you to Desert Honey with an interview with singers Sarah Slade and Jade Arrow!  Shane found this band when we first started putting together the idea for the Mind Under Matter Campout Festival.  They have the perfect style and vibe for a campout festival and with their serendipitous name, it was meant to be.  They just released their debut album ‘The Bard’s Vardo’ and we were blown away!  We are excited for our listeners to check them out and help spread the word for them!

Watch this episode on Spotify or YouTube or listen anywhere you podcast.

Come see and meet Desert Honey along with a bunch of other bands, scientists, comedians, podcasters, entertainers and more at The Mind Under Matter Campout Festival at Lakeside Retreats in SE Raleigh Sep 9 thru 11.

What are some bands that you were excited to discover early in their career or hidden gems you want to spread the word about?  Add them to the comments below.

Do you ever wonder what alien consciousness could be like?

The Oceanic Exploring Boys of Comedy™ take a deep dive under the surface and through evolutionary time to contemplate the minds of octopus.

You don’t need sci-fi to see an alien world, marine biologists research it every day.  Octopus and humans’ closest common ancestor was a worm-like creature that existed about 600 million years ago.  Our tentacles of evolution went off to become a wide range of vertebrates and all sorts of large-brained mammals.  Invertebrates took a very different path and tended to opt-out of those costly big brains.  But octopus prove that you don’t need a spine to have an incredibly impressive mind.

Who says a brain needs to be a certain way at all? Octopus evolved brains completely independently from our boney lineage. They might be the best creature on earth to study for learning about what kinds of minds might be possible elsewhere in the universe.

What does your car say about you?

The Inclusive Biological Fitness Flaunting Boys of Comedy™ make it rain conspicuous consumption knowledge and fancy science vernacular.

This week we discuss how organisms use costly and sometimes deceptive displays to advertise their quality to potential predators, prey, family, peers, and mates.  This top shelf episode builds on some of our favorite lessons from past episodes to describe one of the ways in which we are driven to spend in ways that may seem irrational from the view of a utilitarian.

The peacock’s tail might have spurred some of these early insights into evolution, but it has nothing on human spending.

Tune in to hear The IBFFBC™ which cars might be signaling intelligence, openness, conscientious, extraversion, agreeableness, and/or neuroticism.

We also share news of a paleontologist we just booked for the MUM Campout Festival.

The Angelic Boys of Comedy™ explore the light side of MUM Town.

Last month people really liked our Dark Triad episode exploring Narcissism, Psychopathy, and Machiavellianism.

So, we decided to make a two-part episode on The Light Triad of Compassion, Empathy, and Altruism.

We discuss why dark and negative things often bias our attention and how positive psychology is attempting to bring balance to the force.
