    Effect on Emotions
Mindfulness has given me harmony and balance. I'm not saying I haven't cried, but I can observe myself now rather than being in it.
And sometimes I go, you know what, I'm happy being sad today.
    Thoughts on Breathing
Breathing pulls you into center, doesn't it? I've noticed that, you're not doing the breathing. Who's breathing you? When you're lying or sitting there, feeling your chest rise up and down, who is breathing you?
If you tried to consciously stop breathing, you'd have to breathe again. Who's doing that?

    Bullying Story
Tamara's Story – It was sixth grade, the middle of the school year and this poor girl named Debbie comes into class and she already developed. Age eleven and comes in the first day and already the boys were just teasing and taunting her and telling her to lift up her top and all these terrible things during recess.
So she went as far back into the schoolyard as she could go. She was crying, and I went after her. I told her, those guys are jerks and don't listen to them. I can tell you're a nice person. Let's be friends and that whole thing.
I don't know if it was mindfulness but I was very present with her and I allowed her to cry and tell me why she moved. I started asking her all these questions. Curiosity is definitely a mindfulness tool. To this day, we are very, very good friends.

    Effect on Emotions
I started in psychology because of my own anxieties. I wanted answers, that's why I got into analysis. That's why I pursued all this, I wanted answers.
Mindfulness has been the icing on the cake. I laid the foundation and found all the gears I had to get into gear and I've put myself into a better position to experience life.
Mindfulness now is the ability to take all of that and take that deep breath and really experience the wonder and the beauty and the excitement of life. It only gets better.
I learned through mindfulness, every day, every decade is better than the one preceding it. I'm so encouraged by life itself.
    Thoughts on Breathing
The breath is so central to so many schools and orientations. The breath is that which we exist on.
It is everything that is of life itself. It is the embodiment, psychologically and physically of that which sustains us. As we focus on the breath, I think we touch something much deeper.

    Episode Transcript
Note: The following transcript is a draft transcript, and as such, may contain computer-generated mistranslations.
Bruce Langford: How did you get this Book project, about creating a legendary life, together? Was it a bit of a struggle getting this thing to happen or what?
Tommy Breedlove: So audience, Bruce, so we were getting into this struggle cause yes, it was a struggle. Fear, perfectionism, not good enough time. All of that stuff that we all deal with as human beings got in the way. But it was so funny, Bruce, it was like, we gotta get this. And so yes, it was a struggle. A good mutual friend of Bruce and I, Tom Schwab, who's also been on this show and who Bruce and Tom I believe will be remembered as Legendary humans, which is a real compliment, but he told me three years ago that you need to get your story out to the world and you need to tell your story and you need to inspire people and hopefully give people the gift of going second, which is to be raw and vulnerable about where you've been, what you've been through and how you got through it.
Tommy Breedlove: Tom said, the world needs to hear this story, especially the business world, which I came from the world of large business and financial world. So it was three years in the writing. It was all blood, sweat and tears. The original name of the book was palmed the King, which didn't ever resonate with me in some ways I think I was going to a Game of Thrones phase. And so here we are, two years in, six months publishing deadlines facing us, lots of consultants publishing the deadlines, but also pressures from the publisher on the writing. We had some consultants involved and it just never felt like me and never felt like it had my blood and my soul and my heart. It felt forced and on some levels it felt negative and not positive. And I wanted to put light out to the world and hope and simple executable tools.
Tommy Breedlove: It also felt too deep, like it was too deep and all of these subjects that could have been books in themselves. And so one night two years and six months into this process, my wife was out of town and I had gotten the latest version back from the team and, and it's all on me. It's not on them. And by the way, there are some of the most talented people I've ever met in the world and they, once I got my blood and soul on it, they made it rise and it's become the success it's become. But one year over, my wife was traveling and I might or might not have had a little too much bourbon after reading that book and it just hit me. Write the book that you needed during your transition at 36, right? The book that literal

Every emotion is on purpose. Mindfulness has taught me to not ignore them (my emotions) and not push them away.
    Thoughts on Breathing

I have been bullied the majority of my life because I am a very powerful person and people don't like that. If it comes to a career and anyone thinks that you are going to overstep them or take a position that they wanted, you're suddenly the target. In school I was a big target.
As a child I was a major tomboy and I would kick all of the guy's butts in football and hockey and basketball. I was bullied a lot for that and a lot of it still registers in my head.Related Episodes
