In todays episode I chat about our inner child. Our Inner Child isn’t a physical being by adult life, more so a psychological or phenomenological reality, that exists in our sub-conscious and really dictates how we feel, experience and act through our life. As you might already know, most of our habits, personality traits, behavioural issues or actions and perceptions are formed at an early age, within childhood. Indeed this is where most behavioural issues etc stem from but for this episode we are going to focus on the power of the inner child.
So much like how we ignored the genuine important things in our life pre covid, we don’t tend to, we don’t nurture and we don’t care for it. For most adults, this never happens. Instead, their inner child has been denied, neglected, disparaged, abandoned or rejected. We are told by society to "grow up," putting childish things aside. To become adults, we've been taught that our inner child, representing our child-like capacity for innocence, wonder, awe, joy, sensitivity and playfulness--must be stifled, quarantined or even killed.
The inner child comprises and potentiates these positive qualities. But it also holds our accumulated childhood hurts, traumas, fears and angers. "Grown-ups" are convinced they have successfully outgrown, jettisoned, and left this child--and its emotional baggage--long behind. But this is far from the truth. So you can see that we live a life of denial and escapism from the real reality. You will never be able to run from your own problems and issues and trying to burry the positive qualities of your inner child to “grow up” only stifle you as a person.
