Minority Korner

It's so hard to say goodbye... it's the very last episode of Minority Korner. Nnekay is back to help James close it out, and they both just took a DNA test and it turns out they’re 100%: a bunch of things! Nnekay and James reminisce about episodes past and wonder back to yesteryear. Hear about how it all began. Remember our taglines? Our theme song? How much has changed, what’s still the same? Hear about what was going on in their lives at different stages and moments. We go through the highlights, the memories, the laughter, the tears of  past episodes that made Minority Korner what it is today. Its been quite a Journey from the gay Warriors of Thieves, LGBTQIA+ Homless youth, Why Your Camera is Racist, Texas Rangers, Stagecoach Mary, The Black women mortality rate, Tulsa Okalahoma, speaking Hidden Figures into existence and much more. It’s time for the final episode of Minority Korner.

The OG Queen of MK is back as we prepare to close out the show, Nnekay is with us! We got a Black lady supreme court judge- yaaaaay- but let’s take a look at the demographics of the Senate. Does this body represent America? Should we abolish it? The Justice KBJ gauntlet reminds us of the gauntlet Black folks have to go through when applying for jobs. Workers of Amazon, Etsy, and more are all unionizing! Moon Knight is gooooood- we discuss!!! James wonders why Jennifer Hudson never blew up but Adele did- but is this sudden support too little too late on the podcast from him? Nnekay has thoughts! James takes us through the 8 pillars of a caste system as depicted in Isabel Wilkerson’s book Caste- how are these structures still intact, and what can we do to dismantle them? Nnekay talks about the sweetest treat: ice cream and how black people actually helped bring it to fame, and found new ways of innovation to get it to us with 3 Ice cream pioneers that made this treat taste the sweetest! Support black ice cream!

Surprise, it’s a bonus episode! We are bringing you the best of last week's Get On Up! W/ James and Renee (Can I pet Your dog) the new live daily morning show. We chat about The Royal Family and their ill timed tour of Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Belize, it did not go as planned as they were met with protests and backlash. People have had it with their colonizers! Childhood stars Selena Gomez and Raven Simone still have a good head on their shoulders from being off social media for so long. Does this mean we’d all be better without it? Are we all addicted? Then it's time to play This or That as James takes us through a multiverse journey and what would we do if your significant other's parents meddled in your relationship? And we play a game where you decide if Jared Leto, and Alexander Sarsguard, in their latest scenarios are wildin’ or workin' it! Lastly, it's JAM You Lyin! A true false game to test how well you know the Avengers.

We had to bring MacKenzie because who else would we talk about DC with? SPOILERS AHEAD! We need to discuss Matt Reeves’ The Batman. DC finally said, “let's make a good movie!” Even though it was 3 hours- but we’re here for it! Everything from the Joker, to The Riddler, to Zoe Kravitz epitome of Catwoman - we break it down, along with what would have been in the Zack Snyder era Batman. Sigh. The director of Moon Night Mohamed Diab, while on a press tour says Egypt will finally be getting its roses by actually being portrayed authentically, and names some names of who has failed recently, looking at you Wonder Woman. Also we have to talk about the Harry Potter reunion and we have A LOT of notes! In the main korner MacKenzie gives it to us straight up: rest is resistance. She explains through The Nap Ministry how we’ve all been lied to, and the importance of rest as part of our resistance particularly for marginalized folks... everybody else get to work!

Guest Co-Host: MacKenzie Green (she/her)-  Vice President of Social Media for Who What Wear/Clique Brands. She previously served as a social media director at BET+, and worked for Betches, Telemundo, Paramount, and NBCUNIVERSAL. She is a graduate of Columbia Business School and the University of Miami. Of course we’re going to talk about this historic Oscars where Ariana DeBose (The first Latina to win since Rita Moreno) Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina King hosting and of course That Slap…though we will need white folks to refrain from commenting for 5 business days. These things affect Black folks differently due to linked lineage- we discuss. Speaking of complicated black issues, Jussie Smollett has been sentenced, and James saw Todrick Hall live, after his problematic Celebrity Big Brother stint. In the main korner James talks about the new show “The Problem with Jon Stewart '' and is an episode of white people talking about racism, how it went awry and gave a glimpse into the minds of white folks and the challenges ahead in dismantling white supremacy. Plus things white folks should and can do to combat racism in their worlds. Plus, everyone seems so sure this is the worst thing to ever happen at the Oscars, and with it almost 100 we have a list of other events that are historically just as bad, if not worse.

This week join James and Renee for Get On Up- highlights from this week's shows! We're giving you a taste of James and Renee Colvert (from Max Fun’s own Can I Pet Your Dog) new show! We start with a weekend check in and James did some serious damage to his wallet at Macys. We talk about roller coasters and which ones are our faves, the issue with zoos and how do we contribute to the problem? In our news segment James talks about a possibility of Britney Spears coming back onto the music scene, how Pixar is making up for Disney’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ involvement, and Renee discusses a new reboot of an old fan fav Buffy The Vampire Slayer and an all Black Battalion that's finally getting its roses. James will then take us on a journey through the life and time of Josephine Baker the legendary artist , activist, dancer, singer, and ... spy!!!???!!!? Lastly we play Wildin’ and Workin it: during the confirmation hearings of the fabulous Ketanji Brown Jackson, was Senator Lindsay Graham Wildin’? The parents of potentially gay dog gave it up for adoption- were they wildin’? Are they wildin’ making another ‘And Just Like That’ season 2? Are the Jeopardy contestants wildin’ in their answers? Chime on in, as we decide together!

This week while our hearts break for the people of Ukraine we can’t help but notice the different treatment these refugees are getting compared with ones from the Middle East or Africa. And Black Africans trying to flee Ukraine are being met with some racist practices in Ukraine. What’s the best way to give feedback? We’re here to help!  In more fun news, James has come out of his Little Mix hole to experience all the amazing Black music occuring in hip hop, R&B, and pop from Saweetie to Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, H.E.R., and more! Also legends of past, like Tupac, and the influence and legacy he left behind.  In the Main Korner Nnekay talks about the first Spider-Woman Valerie The Librarian- who was Black!

The Queen of Minority Korner is back! Nnekay Fitzclarke is here! This week James and Nnekay had Black Brunch or Black Meal depending on your preference. James loves a cult and a con but found a newly discovered passion as he watched An American Crime Story: Impeachment, A SCANDAL. We discuss how to not Linda Tripp ourselves and we will NOT be apologizing for any jokes made about her because well she was wildin! Then Florida has passed the newly named “Don’t Say Gay” bill and we discuss the harmful effects and precedence this sets for the country and why these bills are dangerous. In the main Korner we continue Women's History Month and talk about the unsung women of color heroes of the suffragette movement that you may not have heard about.

This week we close out Black History Month and transition into Women's History Month but first we have some things we'd like to discuss. Will DC finally apologize to Ray Fisher? If not, we welcome him to the Marvel universe there's so many characters to choose from! Speaking of DC, the cover of Entertainment Weekly has us all thirsting over Zoe Kravitz and Robert Pattinson as Catwoman and Batman for The Batman. Do we have a new couple on the horizon? Todrick Hall has been at the forefront of content creation on youtube and recently joined Big Brother but maybe we have to side eye our heroes once again. We have good news about LGBTQIA+ representation! Will this last or is it a trend? Speaking of trends In the main korner  Mackenzie talks about her love and hate of the Star Wars fandom and why we need to stop with the gatekeeping. And we have tips on how you can help fight the Anti Trans laws in Texas.
