The Minnesota Twins were overmatched in a two-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it is perhaps comforting for David and Dan that they no longer need to play a team that looks an awful lot like the New York Yankees in stature and mystique. Back together after being apart the last three series, David and Dan find the Twins in second place for the first time in a long while, and they find it hard to see a ton of bright spots in this two-game performance against the Dodgers. They discuss Rocco Baldelli's management of his pitchers, and Dan wonders whether the manager's punishment for his unkind words to the league is an admittance that the replay booth in New York got that call wrong last series. Though they are confident Minnesota is still the best team in the AL Central, they boys are eager to see the Twins put together a winning streak as their competition gets a bit weaker the next few series. Against a playoff-caliber team, the Minnesota Twins earn a four-game split at Target Field with the Toronto Blue Jays. But it felt like a series the Twins could have won if not for an overturned call in the 10th inning of Game 4. Hoges -- filling in again for David -- was at the game for it and has lots to say about the way that replay was handled by the MLB crew in New York City. He and Dan praise Rocco Baldelli for his display of emotion and for his articulate critique of the process in his postgame interview. They also discuss the excellent play of Jose Miranda and Nick Gordon, who anchored a lineup riddled with injuries and days off. They praise the hustle of Jake Cave and Gordon, and then Dan asks Hoges whether Carlos Correa should be worried about his job security at shortstop. Hoges wonders what it will take for this season to be perceived as a success, and they end with a look around the Majors at the haplessAngels, the death of Vin Scully and a dominant White Sox pitcher. Amid a flurry of trade deadline deals, the Twins find themselves flush with pitchers and short on healthy outfielders. This led to the long-awaited call-up of Jake Cave, who will arguably play more games for the Twins the rest of the way than Miguel Sano will. Go figure. Dan and Hoges -- filling in for David -- discuss the Twins' additions of Tyler Mahle, Jorge Lopez and Michael Fulmer, plus the instantly impactful add of backup catcher Sandy Leon. Yet even after winning two of three from the Tigers, the Twins are clinging to a small lead over the Guardians and White Sox, and while Dan and Hoges agree that the Twins are the best team in the division, they recognize that Minnesota is still very much in a pennant race. They also discuss the rise of Jose Miranda and look around the league at the busy trade deadline, which sets up yet another Twins' matchup against Whit Merrifield this weekend against the Blue Jays.  Thanks for listening, and go Twins.

Dan is away and so Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in with David as the boys discuss the Twins three game series against the San Diego Padres. Hoges is upset that Rocco didn't let Sonny Gray go deeper in his start and David is upset that Rocco waited one batter too long to pull Dylan Bundy from his. The guys both praise Buxton who looks to be at 100% and carried the team offensively in this series. David wants to know if we'll ever see Sano wear a Twins jersey again, and Hoges is dying to know if the Twins will make any moves at the deadline, knowing that any moves will not be cheap. Hoges takes his shots at David and Dan for not being optimistic enough about the Twins chances to make a run in the post season this year, and he's lost all respect for David due to David's lack of enjoyment of musicals. While Byron Buxton started the series with a leadoff home run, there wasn't much else for the Twins to cheer for, as, for the first time since May, they play a series and fail to win a game. The Brewers had little trouble against troubled Twins starters Dylan Bundy and Chris Archer, leading David and Dan to wonder: Who exactly is going to start for this team the rest of the season? They discuss Buxton's contributions to the team after missing the last series due to an injection in his knee, and they dive into the excellence of Jose Miranda and the ineptitude of the Twins' pitching in general. The boys return from their brief respite during the All-Star break and are in high spirits as the Minnesota Twins sweep the Tigers in their two-game series in Detroit. Meanwhile the White Sox and Guardians split a four-game series giving the Twins a 3-game lead in the AL Central. The guys discuss the HR Derby and All-Star game results and Dan concedes that if players are going to be mic'd up, the All-Star game is the only place it should be allowed. The boys are disappointed as the Twins now head into the All-Star break only 2 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians and only 3 games ahead of the Chicago White Sox. David and Dan return to the podcast after a one-series absence and pick apart the Twins' series victory over the rival White Sox, two games to one in Chicago. They discuss the first-of-its-kind triple play turned by the Twins and the homer-fueled hitting display by Minnesota, which got big games from Luis Arraez, Jorge Polanco and Alex Kirilloff. Once again, though, the Twins' bullpen can't hold a lead, this time in Game 3 after a short start by Joe Ryan.
