The Minnesota Twins left Cleveland ahead in the AL Central by a game, but as the win probabilities suggested, it could have been much more had they not suffered three more excruciating late-game losses to the rival Guardians, who end up winning the five-game series, three games to two despite the Twins leading in all five games. Hoges fills in for David as he and Dan discuss the handful of highs and the many bullpen-related lows. That includes a couple more Pagan meltdowns after the Twins' starting pitching was really quite good in the first four games (Chris Archer's short start in the fifth game not included). They wonder how the Twins will fill in for the LSU-bound pitching coach Wes Johnson and whether the front office will get this staff another reliable closer anytime soon. With Joe Ryan and Sonny Gray back in the starting rotation, the Twins take two of three from the Seattle Mariners to begin a road trip out West. All-Star candidate Luis Arraez comes through with a big hit in Game 3 to secure a victory -- as well as a heralded(?) award from the YouTube TV broadcast crew. David picks Arraez as his series beast, but Dan saves that honor for a reliever who is performing much better than almost anyone expected this season. The boys also discuss the Alex Kirilloff conundrum as well as Rocco Baldelli's management of the bullpen arms. Without top starters Joe Ryan and Sonny Gray -- and then without Carlos Correa -- the Twins manage just one victory against the Detroit Tigers in their rare five-game regular season to start the week. The Twins maintain their spot atop the AL Central, but David worries that this was an opportunity wasted with three much more difficult opponents coming up over the next three series. Dan and David lament the wasted starts from Chris Archer and Devin Smeltzer, as the Twins are shut out twice in this series and fail to keep leads in two other games.
