  • Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 27: MF Doom(Part 2-The MIXTAPE)

Regarded as “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper”, a British citizen named Daniel Dumile once looked at the rap game and came to the conclusion that rap was becoming “what it looked like” versus “what it sounded like”. What did he do with this observation? He donned a metal mask and became the scene’s most loved supervillain and well-regarded wordsmith known as MF DOOM. That’s right, kids, Anatomy of Mixtape has finally taken the step that 40 Hands Dan has wanted since the inception of the show–an exploration of the life and music of MF DOOM that blew his mind a few years ago and continues to do so. In our first of two parts for this series, Rey and Daniel address what little we know of Dumile’s life which is shrouded in mystery purposefully. To paraphrase DOOM during an interview when asked to list five things that fans don’t know about him, he said “You don’t know anything about me”. Find out why this is the case even a year after his death by tuning in!

  • Ep. 82: Donnie Darko (Frank the Fury Guru)

Cinekuest Presents: Donnie Darko aka the Pre-Regrettening Part Wtf (Frank the Furry Guru)

So what do you get when you make an indie film sandwich with an itty bitty slice of sci-fi salami? Whatever this is. Some coming-of-age timey wimey confusion aside, Donnie Darko is some bland-ass teenager farting through suburban hell. After a jet engine crashes into his room, (yes…why not) Donnie’s life gets a little…fuckin’ bananas. Don Don is soon possessed/influenced by the spirit/hallucination/projection from the future–Frank the Furry Guru, learns the world will end in 28 days, gets superpowers, oh and learns about time travel from Grandma Death. We’re blursed with iconical indie award-ling dialog such as, “Every living creature on Earth dies alone.” Such profoundery. Listen in as Rey, Roland, and Daniel try to make sense of what all the hububbery is about.

  • Ep. 81: 12 Monkeys (How Does It Make Sense?)

Cinekuest Video Presents 12 Monkeys AKA The One Where We Wonder How It Makes Sense

Time travel, questioning reality, eco-terrorist actions, looooooove, and Bruce Willis’ beautiful backside with a backdrop of Brad Pitt’s pre-Fight Club nuttiness are the driving force of 1996’s 12 Monkeys directed by Python alum who also directed a previous entry in our time travel miniseries, Terry Gilliam! A deadly virus has devastated humankind and 2036 is the year that prisoner James Cole (Willis) is volunteered to be sent back to 1996 to locate the virus before it mutates and wrecks humanity. However, things are not so straightforward for Cole which is most excellent for us viewers to attempt to suss out what the hell this movie is and how it’s supposed to work. Join Rey, Roland, and Daniel as they discuss the ins and outs of this well-received movie and whether or not this is indeed a movie about time travel!

  • Ep.22: Duendes (Cryptids of Ambiguity)

Backed by the finest reputable Reddit researchers and Wikipedia wizards, we are back with our strange scientistry (or whatever it is you all think we do). Our topic of interest this go around has been focused around the intriguing phenomenon of the “little people” aka “Duendes”. If you’re unfamiliar with the subject matter, duendes are a regionalized version of other cryptids such as elves. These diminutive (or not so tiny, depending on the account) dudes are mostly mischievous-or-at-times-nice-or-maybe-super-evil creatures and their diverse backgrounds (once again, depending on the account) was all kinds of ridiculous fun for us to look into. What are they about? Where are they from? Why should we care? Well, quite simply, they’re badass creatures that we hope exist. We present you with our addled take on what duendes are about–it is now on you to decide what to do with the information. Have you recently misplaced a favored knife in the kitchen? It might be those damned duendes. Join Rey, Daniel, and Roland as we try to break down what these fascinating cryptids are.

  • Anatomy of Mixtape Ep. 25: Passion of the Durst (Three Dollar Bill Ya’ll$)

AoMx Episode 25: Passion of the Durst (Three Dollar Bill Y’all$)*Echoey as hell* Reintroducing the illest, dopest, and freshest music podcast we can come up with. Welcome back to Anatomy of Mixtape! *Back to normal* In the past, we were primarily a show with a multitude of hosts, but the latest iteration features El Rey and 40 Hands Dan as we attempt to dive a bit more deeply into the realm of music that we love. However, this first foray into our two-man approach involves an album that we aren’t particularly crazy about and are pleased to never have to listen to again any time soon. What album is that, you ask? Three Dollar Bill Y’all$ from Limp Bizkit, notoriously the world’s most hated band that has enveloped themselves in controversy over funky bass lines. Join us as we return to our angsty teenage years with this raw-sounding, hard-hitting entry of the now mostly defunct nu-metal genre! Before we let you get to this episode, please rate and review us wherever you get your podcasts from and, if you want a more consistent release schedule of our audial shenanigans, donate to our Patreon or purchase some of our sweet merch on Teespring. On with the show…

  • CineKuest Video Ep. 78: Time Bandits (That One Movie Where God is a Rotten Bastard)

Cinekuest Presents: Time Bandits AKA That One Movie Where God is a Rotten Bastard

What do you get when Terry Gilliam needs money? One of the best “children’s” movies of all time! Jolly good! Meet Kevin, a young boy whose love for history goes largely ignored by his dopey parents and their own love of toaster ovens and the good ole’ American boob tube (not neglectful at all). Kevin’s call to adventure soon begins when a knight in shining armor (on horseback?!) crashes through his closet and fucks off into…the bedroom forest? The next night six little people (angels? no~wai) crash into his room and…GOD…chases Kevin and company through a hole in time. Thus begins a wonky time-heist through time–embarking on an adventure with famous figures such as little-big-man Napoleon Bonaparte (Ian Holm), Jolly Smooth Robin Hood (John Cleese), King Kickass Agamemnon (Sean Connery) and they even enjoy a brief, brief cruise on the Titanic (spoiler–the ship doesn’t make it). All the while, Kevin and the Time Bandits (shotgun band name!) are fleeing a spooky AF floating head (no, really…GOD) as well as the literal Incarnation of Evil himself. Can Kevin and crew evade the tribulations of time traveling, supernatural forces, and make away with all the sweet looty-booty? Or will Evil finally obtain the knowledge of computers and wreck all our shit as we know it? Join Rey, Roland, and Daniel as they discuss this classic of time travel (is it time travel though?) from one of the great minds behind MF’in Monty Python!

  • CineKuest Video Ep. 77: Timecop (The Van Damme Sex Splits)

Cinekuest Presents: Timecop aka the Van-Damme Sex-Splits

Boom!Boom! Wow, ‘tis the timey wimey for the next CineKuest theme-ageddon! With our first round of the outta timers, we humbly submit to you-our loving viewer(s) the baddest of the asses (wait ‘till you see it), JCVD himself, as Max Walker, a time traveling, high-stomping, man-of-action-mullet-from-the-future. As a part of the Time Enforcement Commission, Walker is a one man mountain of pain kick punching through time to stop rogue time-weebs from going back and investing in google and making bets with an almanac. Unfortunately, the guys in charge of the TEC aren’t too keen on keeping time nice and neat. That costs money, y’know? Gotta think of the deficit….tax payers…budgetary….politicking. How is Walker going to out-flex Senator McComb before he becomes the damn POTUS? Hint: with big balls and a most powerful ass-clap. Join Rey, Daniel, and Roland as we start the new CKV hotness time hijinxs.
