This week on Moon Makeup we say goodbye to the first general of the Dark Kingdom (and thus also the first arc as well) and also meet the second general! First up it's Episode #13, Girls Unite: The End of Jadeite, which kind of spoils itself right there in the episode title. However in addition to being Jadeite's farewell it also doubles as one of the most bizarre episodes of the series so far, as Jadeite attacks the Sailor Guardians with cops made out of clay and AIRPLANES and Luna reveals herself as an evil capitalist, among many other developments! Once that's out of the way we turn our attention to the beginning of the next arc, Episode #14, A New Enemy Appears: Nephrite's Evil Crest. The second general Nephrite makes his debut (and the third general Zoisite also makes an early cameo!) and reveals the major shift to the monster-of-the-week format, as we go from an evil plot to steal energy from a whole bunch of people to Nephrite identifying one "Victim of the Week" (he asks THE STARS!!! to identify whose energy is reaching its peak each week) to target for energy theft instead. In this episode it's Naru's childhood friend Rui, a tennis prodigy who Nephrite grants the power of EVIL SERVES, and which leads to a hilarious tennis-themed fight where Tuxedo Mask finally does something! Finally we have Episode 15, Usagi's Panic: Rei's First Date where the victim of the week (some park manager who Ami is friends with) takes a very obvious back seat to Rei's plan to land her a man: Mamoru! It's one of the funnier episodes of the season, mixed in with a very underwhelming monster story. Come enjoy this changing of the guard with us, this week on Moon Makeup!

It's three more episodes of the original Sailor Moon, and this week we finally meet the last Sailor Guardian who's been in the opening since the very first episode! It all starts with Episode 10, The Cursed Bus: Enter Mars, the Guardian of Fire, as we head to a Shinto shrine that's under suspicion, as young girls who come there for love charms keep disappearing. As you may have guessed from the episode title, it's all the fault of an evil bus, but the shrine maiden turns out to be our third Sailor Guardian! And as soon as we're introduced to Rei, we get right into her infamous rivalry with Usagi in the very next episode, Usagi vs. Rei: Nightmare in Dream Land. This time around the girls are investigating a theme park where people keep disappearing (that happens a lot in this poor town), which is of course yet another Dark Kingdom energy-stealing plot based around a creepy little princess and her house of sweets. Finally we wrap things up with Episode 12, I Want a Boyfriend: The Luxury Cruise Ship Is a Trap, as the Dark Kingdom once again sets their sights on the energy of couples in love and Jadeite gets in some deep doo-doo with Queen Beryl for putting one of her favorite monsters in danger. This is really the end of the first arc of Sailor Moon, as next week's Episode 13 says goodbye to Jadeite, so enjoy his last batch of energy theft plans!

This week on Moon Makeup we finally meet our second Sailor Guardian! We cover episodes 7-9 of the original series, which begins with Episode 7, "Usagi Learns Her Lesson: Becoming a Star Is Hard Work". It's the last episode with Sailor Moon going solo, as everyone in the Juban district of Tokyo desperately tries to become the next big celebrity. Then it's on to Episode 8, "The Girl Genius Is a Monster: The Brainwashing Cram School of Horror", as Sailor Moon finally gets someone other than a talking cat and a flighty man in a tuxedo to help her. But wait! Is this person who has been in the opening for the past 7 episodes actually AN ENEMY??? Finally, we wrap things up with the only two Guardian episode of the series, Episode 9, "Usagi's Disaster: Beware of the Clock of Confusion". Evil clocks make everyone go crazy. We're back to discuss the second batch of episodes from the original series! Join John and Nicole as they offer great praise for the Dark Kingodm's marketing staff, note that they're already taking our advice when it comes to price, find out that cats can be super guilty of fatshaming, are greatly confused by the family's lack of concern over their son owning a pet that doesn't need to eat, and frankly just wonder why the bad guys got super lazy on their last scheme of the week here. It's the debut episode of our new Sailor Moon rewatch podcast, Moon Makeup! Join hosts John (who's seen the show many times before) and Nicole (who's watching for the very first time) as they break down the first three episodes of Sailor Moon! We're introduced to a number of characters, including of course the titular guardian Usagi, her friends at school and early love interests, and her talking cat. Of course we also meet the villains for the first season, the Dark Kingdom, who are out to steal the ENERGY!!!! of the FOOLISH HUMANS!!!! to power their as-yet-unspecified evil ruler. Their plans this week included using jewlery, tarot cards, and evil flower brooches given out as rewards for having your love letter read on a fake radio show.
