On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are on a desperate mission to save the relationship we accidentally screwed up. We’re talking about the 1998 film from Jason Bloom, Overnight Delivery.

What we really need to talk about with this film is how amazing Ivy’s purple Jeep was. I’m not usually one to go for a car like that—I prefer mine without a leaky roof—but that little putt-putt machine was amazing. In all seriousness, where can we get one of those?

While we’re at it, we should pour one out for that dearly departed vehicle. At least it went out in a memorable way. Nobody’s going to forget that eye-catching car.

And the person driving it was just as amazing. Now that I’m writing these words, I can’t help but wonder what the hell was wrong with Trips from the very beginning. I get that young love can be a deceptive emotion, but this is Ivy we’re talking about.

I’m betting that she would never cheat on anybody, and certainly not with someone called “The Ricker.” Ugh. Trips should have cut his losses and just made sweet, college-aged love with her. What a dingus.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are trying our damnedest to remember all the things we keep forgetting each day. We’re talking about the Peter Segal film from 2004, 50 First Dates.

I’m sure we’ve all got some first dates that we’d really like to forget. The food could have made us sick. Our date was embarrassingly rude to the waiter. It ended in a weird bed with someone who grunts a little too much.

Suffice it to say, we all wish that we could have those dates that seem like they should be featured at the end of a sappy romcom. Maybe Hugh Grant shows up and everything will finally be okay.

Better still, what if you could relive that date hundreds of times over? Wouldn’t that be swell? In some ways, it’s hard not to envy poor Lucy in this film. You get to spend an exciting first date with your great love over and over!

I’d prefer that without the debilitating brain injury. Endless first dates are nice, but not being able to remember anything? It seems like I’ve written myself into a corner with this dream. Time to find some scientists to figure this out!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are doing our best to stay out of the rain, bathtubs, pools, fountains, and indoor plumbing. We’re talking about the 2013 film from Griff Furst, Ghost Shark.

It may surprise some of you to learn that sharks are a lot more talented/fearsome than you might have first known. That’s not to say that they’re inherently terrifying and evil; most of the time they’ll leave you alone.

But Jaws wasn’t just the thrilling summer blockbuster we all love today. Indeed, it was a dire foreshadowing of the underwater terrors to be discovered.

Suffice it to say, mysticism and sharks makes for a terrifying combination. What do you do when all water is off limits? What do you do when taking a quenching sip of delicious and previously innocent water puts your life in danger?

These are the hard-hitting questions that a B-movie of this caliber is asking, and we praise it for that. No other film has the daring to stand up and do what this film has done. Bless you, Ghost Shark.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are setting off for not just one, but two deep-sea adventures. We watched both Andrew Stanton Pixar films, from 2003 and 2016, Finding Nemo and Finding Dory.

There are many things to be learned from life under the sea. First and foremost being that family is the most important thing in the world. They’re worth risking your life for if the need arises.

We also learned that fish are friends, not food. That’s a good one. This film doesn’t delve too far into the terrible effects that humans have on aquatic life, but to think about those horrors for a moment really pushes this lesson home.

There’s the always popular “just keep swimming.” Always good advice. When things get you down, brush it off and keep moving forward. To stay still is to admit defeat.

I guess what I’m saying is that these two films aren’t just delightful adventures. They can be blueprints for life itself! A lot can be learned from them, so join us in the learning.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are falling in love with rich ladies, evading the fuzz, taking a trip on the greatest luxury liner of the time, and dying in the freezing North Atlantic waters. It’s the James Cameron film from 1997, Titanic.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are making quick friends with some underwater alien creatures. We watched the James Cameron film from 1989, The Abyss.

I just mentioned the aliens, but would you be surprised to discover that those things aren’t featured in much of the film? Probably only about twenty-ish minutes of this over two-hour-long thing.

Maybe you wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve seen this one before, but I sure was amazed to find this out. The aliens, especially the water snake thing, are all over its marketing. One could rightly expect their presence to be greater.

Much like several other films by Cameron, The Abyss focuses on two main themes: surviving under extraordinary circumstances and how terrible the military can be. These ideas are explored in depth (no pun intended).

What we’re given is a thrilling story about a crew of oil rig workers fighting to survive after being trapped underwater. A hurricane rages above them and a nuclear weapon threatens them below. It’s a classic film that deserves its accolades.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are waging a desperate, death-defying war with an overturned boat. Twice. We watched the Ronald Neame film from 1972, The Poseidon Adventure, AND the Wolfgang Petersen film from 2006, Poseidon.

In celebration of the age of the first film we watched, we’re doing a disaster movie double feature! We’re out at sea and celebrating New Year’s Day on a boat that just can’t seem to stay afloat. The whole dang thing is a quitter.

I mean, what sort of thing capsizes because of a giant wave? If boats are going to defy all logical sense by being behemoths and still floating on water, the least they could do is stand up to a wave or two.

But noooooo, these dang things have got to immediately flip over and kill about 98% of its passengers and crew. Many people will blame the wave for this destruction, but maybe we’ve been looking at it all wrong.

I suggest that the boat is the real monster here. Maybe if it had tried harder, then those hundreds of people would still have their lives. What an abject, horrifying monster the S.S. Poseidon is.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are doing our best to believe in Santa because we don’t want to be eaten by any weird Krampus monsters. We watched the 2015 film from Michael Dougherty, Krampus.

Who knew that the holiday season could be so damn scary? Leave it to the Germans to make Christmas the most horrifying time of the year.

But if you or your children need more motivation to be good people throughout the year, then there’s no terrifying horned creature better than this fright. One look at its gaping maw and you’ll volunteer at a soup kitchen on Christmas Eve in no time!

That appears to be the real purpose of Krampus. Our friendly Saint Nick is here to give all the good people the gifts of their dreams. His devilish assistant is here to give all the bad people, um… [checks notes] birch rods? Yes, Krampus gives people birch rod punishments.

Things sure were different back when Krampus became a thing. On the other hand, I’d much rather take a birch rod than be terrorized by this movie’s monster. Anyway, happy holidays!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are discovering the true meaning of the holiday season. We watched the 2019 film from Sergio Pablos, Klaus.

If there’s a better Santa Claus origin story, then one, I don’t know what it could be, and two, I don’t want to hear about it. This film has given me everything I could possibly need, thank you very much.

The real question is why didn’t this film win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film? We loved Toy Story 4—heck, we even talked about it in our inaugural episode—but was that one better than this masterpiece? Survey says, NO.

Regardless, Klaus is a film with the canny ability to warm just about anybody’s heart. Even a Grinch’s cold insides and that’s a damn hard thing to do. That’s not even to mention the gorgeous animation.

This film is a feat for the eyes and a warming salve for the heart. It’s clearly destined to become a holiday classic, and it couldn’t have happened to a better film. Happy holidays!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are celebrating the holidays right with dearly loved family and friends. We watched the 2022 film from Clay Kaytis, A Christmas Story Christmas.

No, you’re not experiencing any déjà vu right now. You might think that this is the same ol’ wonder and anxiety of Christmas spent with dear Ralphie Parker, but you’d be wrong.

This is the direct sequel to the first A Christmas Story. No, we’re not talking about that monstrosity that came out in 2012. In fact, we forbid that thing from ever being mentioned in our presence.

This one true sequel brings back all of our old friends from the first film. They’re here to celebrate the holidays, but also, sadly, the life of the great Mr. Parker.

It’s an updated classic for the ages. Enjoy the episode and, in the spirit of Ralphie’s father, have the best holiday season a person can possibly have!
