Resurrection Hope

After talking about the meaning of Good Friday last week, Dave and Reb discuss how the Hope of the Resurrection can refocus our thinking when we are going through financial difficulties.

Scripture says that we are born into a “living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3) Dave shares that often our financial difficulties and challenges distract us from the truth of that Scripture.

“We need to intentionally decide not to let our financial ‘stuff’ distract us from this Resurrection Hope,” he says.

And that is one reason why Dave and Reb’s company More Than Enough Financial Fitness exists. Their vision is to bring “Hope for Today and Freedom for Tomorrow.” One of the ways they do that is by creating a supportive community of accountability so that people understand they are not alone on their journey, and there is always help and encouragement.

Dave says this journey is not easy, but a key to living in Resurrection Hope is choosing hope every day, and finding a community that will speak and encourage hope and freedom in your finances.

Times of Refreshing

On this Good Friday morning, Ray Borg of Compass Canada joins Dave and Reb as they look at the significance of Good Friday and how repentance affects our lives, both spiritually and financially.

In Acts 3:19, Peter says to the crowds,  “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” That word “refreshing” means “recovery of breath”. When we repent – changing our minds and turning from our current path to God – we can breathe again. There is a slowing down, a turning, and a new perspective, especially as we turn and make changes in our financial decisions.

Inhale and exhale.

Sometimes, when we encounter financial struggles, debt and difficult circumstances, we can feel like we are holding our breath without even knowing it. Repentance and turning back to God and His biblical principles for our finances, can give us the breath we need to keep going.

Ray Borg reminds us on the show that the grave suffocates life and breath. But the Lord Jesus Christ did not stay in that suffocated place. The grave could not keep him. The grave took a breath and God brought Christ forth. As Jesus regained His breath and new life, so we recover our breath as we return to God.

Bill Stevens and Dianne Van der Putten of Christian radio station CHRI 99.1 FM share the 20 year journey of God’s faithfulness with Dave and Reb on Let’s Talk Money.

The journey of establishing the station in the Ottawa region has had many ups and downs, but both Stevens and Van der Putten attribute their financial and spiritual stability to God’s leading and faithfulness.

Ten years ago the station suffered financial instability with $250,000 of debt, but today they stand debt-free. Van der Putten says that Stevens’s encouragement for them as a team has been a huge part of their success today.

Stevens says they have a great team of committed people at the station: “You let people go and do what they do best, and let God do what He does best and that is the great multiplier.”

Another shift for the station took place when Van der Putten agreed to be the station’s Director of Marketplace Ministries. Marketing, for her, became an act of service to the community. She knew she would offer advertising, but God would be the one to draw businesses. Her focus would be serving the community and helping businesses in any way possible.

No more peanut brittle:

“Unless the Lord build the house they labour in vain who build it.”

On this week’s show, Dave and Reb interview Ottawa Pastor Jeremy Hanscom from Calvary Pentecostal Church where he tells the story of God’s provision for their church building project. They left behind fundraising – peanut brittle sales  – and turned to hear God’s call for their church.

Pastor Hanscom shares the journey of how “blessed to give” is transforming their church, and how the campaign is more than just about money or a building. In 27 months, the church – with God’s direction and aid – has raised one million dollars of the $1.5 million target. However, Pastor Hanscom says this journey has not been about money but about faith, and seeing God provide a place for the community.

“We have learned a new relationship with God in the process,” he says, adding that every week they hear a new story, testimony or discovery about people’s journey with God in physical healings, financial blessings and many other areas of growth.

Pastor Hanscom says he has been amazed by the level of faith people are experiencing with God, as they commit to give and see how God provides.

This is a story where people are doing their part, and watching how God is doing His. Listen to the show to see how God is filling in the gaps, building faith, and encouraging his people.
