Chapter 1: Get ready for a cold winter with lots of snow in the interior

...at least according to the Farmer’s Almanac!  The almanac has been in publication for over 200 years and it’s based on a formula devised by founding editor David Young in 1818.

Chapter 2: We’re learning more about how Canadian telecom giant Nortel went bankrupt after a decade of hacks linked to China.  The Mississauga based company went under after Chinese based competitor Huawei outbid them on a number of contracts.

Chapter 3: As wildfires here in BC calm down, the state of California has hundreds-of-thousands of residents ready to leave their homes if the fires there continue to grow.

Chapter 6: After the fatal crash in Kamloops that took the life of Snowbirds team member Captain Jenn Casey, the aerial performance team is cleared to fly again.

Chapter 7: An altercation with an area resident resulted in the man going to hospital with a broken leg and police are now investigating.  Repeated warnings failed to deter him from preaching in the area, and the incident has people in the neighbourhood asking why he’s able to keep returning.

Chapter 1: The wildfire near Penticton has destroyed one home and thousands of people are under evacuation alert.  Global News Reporter Neetu Garcha joins us for an update this morning as hundreds of fires burn across the province.

Chapter 4: Known as the Golden State Killer, Joseph James DeAngelo sat in a California courtroom yesterday to hear victim impact statements as part of his sentencing. He is one of America’s most infamous serial killers, operating mostly out of the spotlight between 1975 and 1986. After finally being caught decades later, DeAngelo pleaded guilty to raping more than 50 women and murdering 13 people.

Chapter 5: We seem to hear alerts about COVID-19 exposures on flights every couple of days, and some of them are on flights coming from outside of Canada.  So why are we allowing flights from outside the country? Well our next guest is part of an international research team that’s looking at how border restrictions impact the spread of the virus.

Chapter 6: We know there will be COVID infections when school starts in September.  Even if we do a stellar job with learning groups and safety precautions it’s just statistically impossible to avoid transmission when so many people start interacting again.

Chapter 7: What do you think about plans for kids to wear masks in school?  Education minister Rob Fleming announced students and staff will be required to wear them in high traffic areas and on buses, but districts will have some room for interpretation when it comes to implementing their own policies.

Chapter 8: We were seeing more job postings every week since May but now we’ve hit a two week lull where they’re still down about 25% compared with this time last year.  Brendon Bernard is an Economist at the Indeed Hiring Lab and he joins us this morning to talk about why we’ve stalled out and which industries are still down.
