Chapter 2: A two-day summit kicks off today that aims to explore innovative climate change solutions designed for a post-COVID-19 world. Today’s valedictorian is Grace Robinson from George Elliot Secondary in the Central Okanagan School District. After graduation, Grace plans to attend U-B-C-O with the goal of pursuing a career in project management. Her favourite subject in school was English. We have two valedictorians today from Burnaby Mountain Secondary School - Deborah Wang and Maya Beninteso. After graduation, Deborah plans on going to SFU to pursue a career in Computer Science; Maya plans on taking psychology at SFU to become a Clinical Psychologist. Deborah wants to give a special shout out to her fellow grads of 2020. She says “you did it! Even though it felt like graduation wouldn’t be possible with everything going on this year.” And Maya wants to give a special shout out to her mom for her continued support.

Chapter 1: This weekend marks the second anniversary of the murder of hockey dad, operating room nurse at Peace Arch Hospital and father of two boys Paul Bennett. Bennett was gunned down in broad daylight in his Cloverdale driveway on a cul de sac full of families on a sunny Saturday afternoon two years ago. Surveillance video from homes showed a silver car pulling up to Bennett's driveway before some got out of the passenger side; moments later shots are fired and the same person then climbs back into the vehicle and it speeds away.

Chapter 2: Do you plan to travel within BC this summer? Why not explore the many incredible destinations in our big backyard, including indigenous experiences. Chapter 3: On Friday the news broke of rampant racism in BC’s health care system. Reports surfaced of health-care staff playing a racist game betting on the blood alcohol level of mainly Indigenous patients they were treating. Now that the problem is finally being exposed...what can be done to fix it in the future?

Chapter 4: If you thought the drivers out there seemed to be more crazy during the height of the pandemic...you were right! The VPD saw a 44% increase in excessive speeding during March and April, compared to the same figures from 2019.

Chapter 5: Training for BC police officers is inadequate, according to two reports. One of the reports, published in 2017, states that the province’s police academy is “not adequately financed for today’s policing environment, considering the challenges of mental health, other social issues, and the current drug crisis.”
