Finding solace in a dorm room with two young college students, Walter heads home with one of them to a ranch in Texas where he is adopted by the close-knit family and their quirky pets.
Walter forms a quick bond with the scientist grandfather who spends every day with Walter, working on a project in a mysterious tiny shack behind the house. The Bird who Cared
What did you love best about A Pigeon's Tale?
It's a story about hard times and hope; Walter (the pigeon) loses his family when he's young and makes friends who become his new family.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the character 'Old Dude' ... he was an old, wise pigeon who trained Walter how to survive in a mean world.
What does Richard J. Bennett bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He brings the characters to life, especially 'Old Dude' and later, the professor, Sir Alfred Jerome ... plus The Great White Stork
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's over 7 hours long, so it's too long to sit through at one time. I think taking it in an hour at a time worked just fine.
    Any additional comments?
Good action, drama, intense at places ... no cussing, nothing inappropriate for family settings or young children. That's good to see these days.

    Really fun book!!!
What a fun book!!! It was witty, funny and even hit on some more serious subjects. It was well written and I liked that the language used wasn't dumbed down even though the book was geared towards younger kids.
The story is about a classroom rabbit who believes he is a Tyrabbisaurus Rex and his many adventures in the classroom and among the kids. The book is told from many alternating POVs including the rabbit's. This allows you to learn about each child and their home life throughout the book. It also gives the story a fun and unique quality.
I really enjoyed the TRab's delusions of grandeur. His idea of his cuddly cute self as a ferocious world dominating megalomaniac was hysterical.
The narrator did an excellent job. She portrayed each character in a way that was unique so that young children listening could distinguish between them easily.
I think that children will enjoy this book a lot. It's a lot of fun to listen to and the story has a good pace that will keep kids engaged.
I hope that this book is part of a series because I look forward to hearing about more of the adventures of the Tyrabbisaurus Rex!
I would like to thank the author/narrator/publisher for gifting me a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
    Tiny bunny, big character
Which character as performed by Matthew Woods was your favorite?
T-rab himself. His tone fit the character to a T. So funny.
    Any additional comments?
My daughter and I already owned the paper copy of the book and loved the story. We couldn't wait to see what the voice actor would do with the characters, and his interpretations (in our minds) was perfect. My daughter has listened to it multiple times and even though it is a middle-grade, it is both funny and substantial enough to hold an adult's attention as well. Well worth the buy.
    Cute story, great narrator
Very cute story, the narrator was great hope to find more stories narrated by Matthew Woods.

    Publisher: Jennifer Henderson
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
There are a few simple rules Daniel follows.
Rule One: never let an adult see your weakness. Daniel made that mistake and look where he ended up - summer camp.
Rule Two: never make fun of the person who feeds you, unless you like Miss Gunderson's peppery pancakes and green hamburgers.
Rule Three: stay away from girls who love Glitter Ponies. They have cooties, after all.
And Rule Four: never, ever lose your magic pencil.
But Daniel has broken all of his own rules. Now he's stuck and starving at Camp Bigfoot with the school bully as his bunkmate and an ooey-gooey girl who won't leave him alone. If all of that wasn't bad enough, his prized possession, a pencil that brings his drawings to life, has gone missing and wacky creatures are popping up all over camp.
Can Daniel survive Camp Bigfoot and find his magic pencil before it's too late?

    Fun story with fun characters!
Lively story with tons of inner and outer dialogue making for a fast paced book! My favorite part is the number of interesting characters that make their way through this book, and their different personalities that come across through the audio!

    Any additional comments?
One of my passions is finding books that 9- to 14-year-old boys will want to read. Because reading for 30 minutes a day is critical for boys to thrive, I'm always looking for books in a variety of mediums and forms that they may like. For that reason, I purchased the audio book of 'Daniel the Camp-er" and listened to it in my car over the last three weeks. I wanted to see if it was a book that would engage a boy while he was sitting in a car driving from one activity to another.
I have to say, I really liked Daniel, and I know boys ages 9 to 11 will too. Ms. Henderson captured the essence of this age group with the humor she uses and the way she has Daniel question and reflect on the world around him. Without a doubt, S.J. Henderson's 'Daniel the Camp-er' is definitely a book I will be highly recommending to parents and educators who want to get boys reading.
Super Amazing Pants to the rescue
This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.
I haven't read the first book in the series, so I felt a little bit lost. At first I thought Danny had an overactive imagination, considering both his talking cat and how he imagines the worst scenarios of everything he comes across. It wasn't until the bats that I figured out his magic was real. It's a pretty fast paced book; Danny goes through camp and his life is mixed with magic he takes for granted. The others more or less ignore the magic, which is part of the reason I thought it was all in his head. We meet Super Amazing Pants, Herman the Dragon, and Senor Moose among other creatures Danny concocts. As a stand alone novel I'd give it a three, but I'll give it a four assuming it's a little less confusing given the first novel.
Really liked the narrator. She expresses Danny's frustration well and uses a deeper tone to represent males and a cutesy voice for the little girls. She nailed the accent for Senor Moose.

    Publisher's Summary:
Lucy and her pack are back in this sequel to Beth Vrabel's heartwarming and humorous debut, Pack of Dorks.
Sheldon convinces Lucy, Sam, April, and Amanda to join him at a weeklong sleepaway summer camp - Camp Paleo: Live Like a Caveman. Like cavemen, they're going to have to make do without air-conditioning or a heated pool. They'll learn archery and dig for fossils. And Grandma's coming, too; she's taking a job as lunch lady for the camp next door.
At the last minute, Sam backs out to go to a gymnastics training camp instead. Lucy wonders why she misses him so much - it's not like he's her boyfriend or anything. Why does the word boyfriend make her blush, even when she's only thinking it? She needs a distraction. Enter Mr. Bosserman, the grouchy camp leader who won't budge on the caveman aspect of the camp. The old man needs some softening up, and Lucy knows just the person for the job: Grandma.
One successful match made, Lucy starts to see potential lovebirds everywhere. And setting up couples keeps her from facing the question tickling the back of her mind: Is she in love with Sam? But when the wrong campers fall for each other, the pack falls apart, all under the watchful eye of a supersecret blogger who's been writing about the camp's activities Gossip Girl-style. Even worse? A thief is targeting everyone but Lucy, setting her up to look guilty. Soon Lucy again finds herself alone, left to fix the messes she's made and face her own feelings. If she fails, the pack may be splintered for good.

... and her pack go to summer camp in this fun sequel to Pack of Dorks
Lucy and her pack go to summer camp in this fun sequel to Pack of Dorks. Middle graders will relate to the awkward and amusing antics of Lucy as she struggles to deal with her feelings on boys, her friends, and finding herself all while staying at Camp Paleo where kids are forced to live like cavemen. I highly recommend this to middle graders for a highly entertaining summer read.

The Brat Pack of Middle Grades ;)
Ever been to summer camp? How about summer camp caveman-style, while the campers next door get tech time, fancy snacks, and air conditioning?
In this sequel to Pack of Dorks, Lucyâs time at camp nudges her on a journey of self-discovery. Lucy explores her feelings about her new best friend who transforms physically and socially, the flush of emotions when she thinks about boys â especially Sam, and her compulsion to arrange couples in neat and tidy relationships. All this while she struggles to get a decent supper and keep everyone from hating her!
My favorite thing about this book is the dialogue.

Disclaimer: I don't like baseball and most of the story is about baseball, so if you like baseball you might like the story more than I did.
The burp episodes are getting too uninteresting, and the baseball theme gave if an uninteresting spin. I liked how Chris' and George' s friendship was mended.
