I would not recommend this book unless you like so much drama.. not just action but extreme drama.

What a disappointment

I kept trying to listen to this book to find out what happened, but it was just way too annoying. Tamara has to be one of the most annoying characters I've encountered....alternating constantly between whining, attacking, loathing (self and others), lusting, rejecting, encouraging. I just wanted to slap her and couldn't imagine any man being attracted to her, let alone so patient with her. But the ridiculous sex scenes finally did me in. I like mysteries. I would buy Harlequin romances if I wanted this nonsense. I want my mind stimulated, not my libido. No more Lisa Gardner/Alicia Scott books for me. I didn't finish it....rare for me.

don't waste you money

What would have made MacNamara's Woman better?

The story line is ridiculous. There is no way a man will do all these for a woman that he only met for a few days. She suppose to be a successful PR executive in NY, but she was ordered around at a compaign headquater that she volunteered. Just does not make sense!

Another good read

I like Lisa's books for their feeling of the person telling the story being centered and knowledgeable of the types of pain and confusion that all the characters are experiencing.

Kate Rudd is also one of my favorite narrators. She has a clear voice and the ability to differentiate the characters enough to keep them separate.

Good, but not great like the first book

This one was a little bit of a let down from the first book. It would have been better if I'd read this one first. Not a bad book, just a little predictable.

I've enjoyed the entire Fool's Gold series and 'Christmas on 4th Street' was no exception. It has all the chemistry, plot, pathos and engagement typical of Susan Mallery. Well worth the credit!

Typical Susan Mallery

This is another typical Susan Mallery book. Same formal as the rest. Girl mets guy, guy likes girl but doesn't want a "relationship" plans to move on soon, but they sleep together any ways (FWB) and by the end of the story it is happily ever after.

Cute and sweet and heart warming. Great little holiday listen.

I enjoy most of Susan Mallery's books so I'll listen to others probably, but probably not another Christmas one. Too cheesy. The weddings were ridiculous.

All of Tanya Eby's men have a kind of Yogi Bear sound to their voices. Very annoying.

Best of the Series

Any additional comments?

This was by far the best of the three books in the series. The first was good enough to draw you in, the second was ok, this one actually had a great story line to fill the pages rather than gratuitous sex like the previous 2. Not that I'm opposed to a great sex scene, they were just over played in the first and over-over played in the second book.

I love how this book tied up the story and gave the first 2 books some credibility. The narrator for the 3 did a great job, i really enjoyed her storytelling ability.

Not your typical LOTU book

Although this book was an improvement over the last installment, it still lacked a certain spark from the other Lords of the Underworld books. Most die-hard Gena Showalter fans are aware of her new writing style and either like it or hate it. For me it wasnt the writing style as much as the substance. This book started out well and ended well, but really just fizzled for the majority of the listen. The whole Cinderella story was a bit different for a LOTU book and just didnt work for me. I found most of the story boring; with the exception of William. Hes always entertaining no matter what the storyline. I will probably continue with the series simply because I'm 10 books deep now and have to know how it all ends.

Overall I can only give this book 3 stars.

Really Disappointing

First off, I am a huge Gena Showalter LOTU fan. This book was really lacking the same fire, passion, interest and strenght of characters that her prior books had in abundance. Gena's new writing style is really hit or miss, and this was a big miss. Most of the story was boring, and it was very hard to get into Kane and Josephina as main characters. There was no chemistry or passion - it just seemed off. Also, Kane's nick names for Josphina were very annoying - "tinkerbell" or "tink" - it just seemed to grind on my nerves. On the positive side, Gena did set the stage for a couple of other books to come that might be interesting! I just hope they are the "old" Gena style!

Not a complete disaster.

Finally an older woman & younger Man!

Loved the story. But why does the story HARP on the fact that she was older?? I mean mentioning it once or twice but, give me a break!!! And to make the marine handicapped?? Is that the only reason he felt he could slum with an OLDER successful ex-model?? I hpe not.. BUT... This was still refreshing!!!!!! The later portion was exciting. wish it was a bwwm... Oh well.. Still good story.. KUDOS more please!

I don't usually buy books with male narrator's

I don't think male narrator's do woman's voices as well as woman do men's voices but this narrator did a good job. the story was good and kept my interest. there wasn't any excitement but as a strictly romance novel it was a good book.

Aaaawwww.. this is the sweetest story. I loved it!

"Five stars?" you ask. Yes!

This was to me, a realistic romance. The characters weren't 'perfect, but were decent people who wanted to behave decently. I don't have family experience of PTSD or related difficulties, but it felt like the author treated the hero's experience with compassion and respect.

The love scenes were perfect. They were a nice break from the recent glut of romance novels that inject sex scenes more concerned with being graphic and descriptive than romantic. Ms. Longley approaches these interactions with respect for both characters. Nobody was "dominant" or controlling and the female character wasn't a clueless little cluck waiting to be "mastered*. They were equal partners experiencing the joy of being together. Sweet is the word that comes to mind; but I don't mean that it was fluffy or without substance. This was sweet in the best sense

This book was shorter than I normally choose. But it was just right for this story. It occurs to me that many romance novels I've read lately would be improved by some trimming.

The narrator was very good. Love the Oklahoma drawl.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to future installments of this series.

What about Nick Podehls performance did you like?

He is does a great job with the male voices and tells the story well. Keeps the listener interested. He has a tendency however to make the women sound like they are talking in baby talk a little bit. I have noticed this in other books as well.

This book is far and away much better than book 1 in this series. I very much liked both lead characters. I still find Ted to be a pain and that would be fine if it helped the story line in any way but it does not. I also feel at times that some of the characters are over reacting to things.

Great Characters and a Good Distraction!

I found that I really love about this story is the characters themselves; the story line itself is interesting and somewhat plausible. But the characters! I think I love Logan; the classic flawed hero/bad-ass bad boy always gets my attention and Tara's spunkiness is a recipe for sparks. But it's also the lesser characters who add dimension to this story, Xander in particular-his presence as the classic side-kick is welcome both as a foil and as a point of concern. Black's done a nice job with giving us interesting sidekicks and friends in the past and this story continues that trend in this series.

Logan as Dom is believable and the romance is as well.

Is this serious reading/listening material? Not so much but then, I WAS looking for pure escapism and this book fits the bill in my Universe!

And as always, props to Lexie Maynard; her narration brings the characters to life for me.

Good...but...DROVE ME NUTS

Okay so this is a good story over all and maybe I was just in the mood for something else but I found myself distracted throughout. I know this is the fifth in the series and I enjoyed getting to know Logan and meeting Tara, seeing into their troubled pasts. The twists and turns in the end were great, but honestly, I can't believe I'm actually saying this but there was a bit too much sex and BDSM which usually isn't an issue for me.

That said, however, being that it is the fifth in the series of seven you can't skip it, though honestly I did fast forward through some of the sex. I also enjoyed the cameos by previous characters in this, I love a series that keeps me updated on the lives of the ones that came before. There wasn't much of that in this one but there was a little and we got to meet Xander as well, he is an interesting character!

Narration was great, I have no complaints there!

ONE OF THE BEST EROTIC SERIES AUBIBLE HAS

Shayla Black whole series is A MUST READ for any fan of erotica trust me you wont be disappointed. Lets just say Lexi Maynard narration can only be describe as a hot cup of rich coffee flavor by the after glow of the best sex a girl could ever have.

Why can't judge a book by it's cover?

The plot of this story and its flow is pretty good. It's an easy listen..... As long as you keep telling yourself that Michael is really the guy on the cover. It's s combination of a weak written male character and the voice the narrator uses for him that is a let down. Lets face it, romance novels need the guy to be a guy. Not one who fights back the tears....a lot, and even "whimpers" once or one that sounds like a cross between Big Bird and a snuffaluffagus, Those things REALLY got on my nerves but the story is good if you can get past that.

Good Story Brought Low by Annoyingly Vapid Heroine

This started with a good premise. The original meeting between the two main characters was sweet and unique. And the background story about the murder case and trial was interesting and kept the plot moving along. But a good plot was brought down by the most commonly seen villain in romances - a hero or heroine who came across as so vapid that you alternately want to shake her or slap her. As soon as a character starts agonizing over a choice that is so painfully obvious to everyone else, they lose me. It was obvious that the author was trying to redeem the "old" love after initially making him a jerk. After all if he stayed the same person he was when we first met him, the book would have been about 1/4 as long as it was. The heroine should have walked away and never looked back about 30 pages in. Unfortunately, in her attempt to redeem Jeremy it seemed like she either created an entirely new character that was completely unrelated to the original Jeremy, or he had multiple personality disorder.

The romance that Michael was ending was much better written and much more believable. And once Juliana sees the light and gets over her past, her courage in taking time to depend just on herself relieves me of my desire to slap her for her early foolishness ... at least a little.

I've listened to several books by this narrator and while she isn't in my list of absolute favorites, she is seldom annoying. The voices of a few of the characters in this book were annoying. Not one of her better efforts either.

Annoying

Generally, I enjoy Marie Force's work but this book was...difficult. It felt as if the conflict with the heroine's ex is contrived and at points, I felt really bad for the hero. I also wanted to yell "are you serious?!" at the heroine. While the premise of this book is great and the book has a HEA, overall it was a let down and the ending was disappointing.

I feel like I should add that I did like the narration.

The City Girl wrangles a Stud

Narrator did a great job with narration,has an easy,steady voice for reading both men and women characters.The story on the other hand,had potential but there seemed to be more filler than actual plot,almost like the author had a good book idea,but could only take it so far,so to make it an actual book,put in alot of unnecessary fillers to make the story longer.Thought she could use her idea better and made it more suspenseful and romantic.

I like C. J. Critt's interpretation of the book, and her unusual voice, but I don't think I will ever listen to another book by Lori Wilde. I would be afraid the book was filled with boring, repeated fluff.

This plot was so thin it could have been a short story, not even long enough for a novella. If I was reading this book, I would have skipped many parts of it. I am starting to not like the main characters because of their constant dithering about their attraction to each(I haven't finished listening yet, but I am stubborn and will finish because I paid for it). I am ready to scream at Mariah, "Joe is not like your father, he is successful, has money, is settled down, etc." The author keeps restating all of their doubts about each other and uses that as the tension in the book. I should have kept track of how many times she has thought the same thing. Boring! If Ms. Wilde needed to lengthen the story, why not do a better longer flashback about Mariah's time in Chicago. Maybe then she would be more fleshed out and I might have some more sympathy for her.

Which scene was your favorite?

After 2/3 of the book, I would say the opening, hungover cowboy was my favorite scene.

Did The Cowboy Takes a Bride inspire you to do anything?

I will keep to my original plan of listening to mysteries and thrillers from Audible, and READING the romances on my iPad, iPhone. That way, I can skip any of the overly sappy thoughts and sentiments, especially if they are repeated ad nauseum.

The story was not bad but I just did not like the narrators voice. She sounded like an old woman.

4 stars - 3 words: HOT GEORGIAN ROMANCE

This book follows Ask For It and is a luscious romantic tale full of tension, intrigue, desire, steamy passion and of course great likeable characters (including a drop dead gorgeous Pirate/Rake). This was one of those books that had my husband complaining because I was walking around with earphones in listening to it all day, half the night and ordering in Pizza.

I love love love Sylvia Day's books but a word of warning: If you don't like sexy listens or lewd language then look elsewhere.

Worth a credit? Yes it would be but for $7.34 I just bought it and saved my credit for a pricier listen.

just okay

if you like lots of sex then you'll love this book. the two main characters were unable to not couple every time they were together and the author is quite descriptive in the goings on concerning the act. the book would have been better i think with a different narrator, such a pity she was selected to do the entire series. had i realized that i would never have purchased the series but i did am so i am compelled to stick it out and get through it. mostly i like the stories but dread the listening of it. just another good series ruined by a bad narrator. who chooses the narrators anyway? is it the author, or the publisher, or audible? i have no idea but who ever it is i wonder do they listen to them prior to hiring them, i sincerely have my doubts!

Steamy

Very enjoyable intrigue steamy sex. I loved Phillip. Justine did great with the voices not sure why book is on sale but I did as previous listeners. Saved the credit and bought all four well worth the cost.

More than just fantastic sex!

Listening to the twist and turns of their love affair made me wish that the book was longer ... Just so you enjoy the two of their banter and intense love. Christopher had truly met his match in Maria. I love how powerful and confident Maria is. She is such a likable character you really want her to gain control of her life. She is fearless and willing to do whatever it takes to free her sister. From the last book (Ask For It), you know that Christopher is a fierce pirate who has nothing to loose, since his brother was killed. He however takes care of his people building great loyalty. The two provide such intensity, I am amazed that the pages do not catch on fire. I also enjoyed the innocent love story of Colin and Amelia, which contrast and accents Maria and Christopher's relationship. But Simon Quinn has to be one of my favorite characters. Nothing can hold that Irishman down.
