I love Millers books but with this narrator it's hard to listen and get into the storry

Gayle is aweful. No emotion, to many pauses, no voice infilctions.

Not too bad!

First story was pretty good. Really enjoyed the story of the vet and the rolling stone architect. Sophie and Ginger were two of my favorites. Olivia and Tanner didn't fight the attraction but decided to flow with it, which made for a nice change.

The second story was not my favorite. I found Ashley to be a sap. How many times can a person be left. Jake was a love em leave em guy and he did this to Ashley 3 TIMES!!!! Yet she still went after him. ::SIGH:: but she did get her man. I just hate to see women running after a man.

The narrator was not so good. I got used to her, but every time a new character was introduced I gritted my teeth. This narrator needs lots of practice. I wonder if they ever listen to themselves after they have recorded a few pages?

Disappointing

I was hoping for some light, fun listening, but this book disappointed me from the start. In part 1, our heroine the veterinarian, rescues a lost reindeer. Implausible yes, but when the vet says it's a male because only male deer have antlers. In the case of reindeer they ALL have antlers. Not to mention it was apparently a "miniature" reindeer so it fit into the back of her Suburban.

There are a lot of inconsistencies that could easily have been corrected with a minute of research.

Great Author - AWFUL Narrator

I agree with the others who have complained about the narrator of these second 3 "Sweet Magnolia" books. She is awful. She makes all her variations of southern accents make the characters sound like fools. I was determined to listen to the books, so am bearing with it, but it is a real distraction. Janet Metzger, who narrated the first three books, was excellent. Why mess with a good thing? It really makes you wonder if the authors have any say at all in who narrates their books. I hope not, in this case.

I would still recommend the book as the story lines are really good. Love Sherryl Woods.

I have enjoyed most of this series of the Sweet Magnolias but the narrator and let this book down. She does not seem to be able to change between the male and female voices. It is terrible and I considered not listening to the book but I like the story, she is letting it down.

The story was good. But it's so hard not to be destracted by the narrator. I would have rather her just read it with out the southern accents. She kept forgetting who she assigned what voices and kept switching them up. Plus she kept making all the men sound like they were all idiots. What a way to ruin a book. I would have enjoyed it more had it been another narrator or I had read it myself. Such a shame.

Heartwarming!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I ordered this little jewel in 2012 and somehow missed reading it. I would certainly recommend it. It has an interesting theme that many people could relate to. The narrator drew me into the story and I felt connected to the characters. Todd and Marina's fear of commitment almost ruined their lives. Although it has detailed intimate scenes they are integrated into the story; unlike some books with sexual content that have little story to them. It is a realistic romantic fiction.

What other book might you compare The Ultimate Millionaire to and why?

I cannot think of any at the moment.

What about Gabra Zackmans performance did you like?

At first I did not know if I liked her or not, but as I continued to listen I found she had a way of drawing me into the story and feeling connected to the families involved; a talent that makes her a competent narrator. I would listen to her again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not a particular moment, but the whole of Todd and Marina planning Marina's sister, Julie's, wedding. The results from the menu tasting, crashing a strangers wedding to hear their orchestra, etc..

I liked the closeness of the families involved.

Nice ending to the series

Well-written romance with great characters and witty dialog. This is the third story in a series, so I recommend reading the first two before this one.

As with any good narrator, you get a wide range of emotions and imagining the scene is much more vivid when a good narrator is telling you the story.

Well yes but because it was short, not because it was so fascinating.

Skye was a huge let down...

I have read all of Susan Mallery's past series and enjoyed them tremendously. This one started well with book 1, but book 2 has been a let down, starting mainly with the female character Skye. Her weakness, self pity and inability to stand up to her dad were way off the charts. Also, the author expected too much out of her readers this time.

1. We have to accept that an 18 year old could be pushed by her father into marrying a stranger even though she's in love with another, but to be allowing herself to be bullied into it again at age 30 because god forbid daddy won't love me anymore, pleeeaaase!!

2. We're expected to like her dead husband, a man who married his friend's teenage daughter, yeech!

3. The 2 sisters dating and fighting over the same guy was absolutely distasteful.

4. Skye's character of peacemaker in book1 became disturbingly unreasonable and silly in book 2.

Two things saved this book: Skye's little girl, really sweet kid that you cannot help but love her and Mich's struglle with his disability and loss. In my opinion, Mich let Skye off the hook way too easily and she was not worthy of him. For Susan Mallery, this book was just tolerable. I really hope she'll get her mojo back in book 3.

What has happened to Susan Mallery?

I was first introduced to Susan Mallery's work with her series dealing with the Buchanan's (Delicious, Sizzling, Tempting & Irresistible). They were funny, well-written stories that had characters you could relate to and root for. However, her work since then has been such a big disappointment! The "Sweet" series (Sweet Spot, Sweet Trouble, Sweet Talk) featured characters that were irritating and dysfunctional, and this Lone Star series has just been plain brutal! The female lead in this book is a whinny, simpering mess, and the male lead is bitter and cruel. I'm a hopeless romantic, and yet I found myself not caring at all what happens to these people because they are ridiculously appalling!

While I listen to these books, I find my mind wandering often because they storyline and characters are just that bad.

Enjoyed the series

I love the two stories that get told during these books. I applaud the narrator for being able to do many voices, but I CRINGED each time she did a kid voice....I also really disliked the Hannah character and I believe that is because of the voice she was given

This was such an enjoyable book. Audio done so well, likable and believable characters and a charming story. I cant wait to read the next in the series!!

Absolutely Fabulous

I loved this story of Kendra and Jamie and how Jamie chose to help Kendra. I loved Jamie's two delightful daughters. I loved Grace and her story during the war. I loved the quilting aspect. I loved everything, there was nothing to dislike. Isabel Keating was outstanding with her narration and brought the characters to life.

It ranks right up near the top with most Fern Michaelbooks I've listened to.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the story line in general. She holds your attention and makes you want to listen to more, more, more.

Honestly

I read this one right before my first trip to Vegas, The title is true, it sure was hot in Vegas 115 degrees hot. The title did not match the story however: a relaxing pleasant read sitting by the pool alone but not sexy and steamy enough to be titled Vegas Heat There wasn’t even enough steam to dry my hair after my swim. Maybe change the title to Vegas Breeze. Ahh but then if you did that one could truly judge the book by the cover. Young readers can appreciate and gleen useful information about family dysfunctions

Nice Read

Where does Lessons Learned rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

This book rank in the middle somewhere. Not first line, but a fun listen. Sometimes, you just want a fun book that is easy and quick, this is it. It makes you laugh, and it brings pleasure. You might catch yourself smiling at parts.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Carlo Franconi was my favorite character he was so full of himself it was not funny yet you just had to like him. Mainly because he was a playboy until he got caught and fell in love, but he didn't lie to women he was what he was. He was fun. He made me laugh.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performances were done well. I think the beginning was the best part of the book. Nothing to write home about, but I have had worse. There were times I just didn't like Juliette.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was a short book. I think I finished it in two sittings

Any additional comments?

Books are my entertainment. I like books because they excite me, entertain me, and bring me pleasure for one reason or another. They don't always have to make sense. I don't get upset unless something in he book is just too far fetch. If the book is written well, I can find some enjoyment out of the book then the book has served it's purpose for me. It is very seldom I choose a book without reading reviews and who the narrator is. The narrator can be half the fun. If the narrator is not right you can count on having a problem with the book. This was not a great book, but I think you can find some enjoyment out of the book. It was not a wasted credit.

exciting

I listen to books all the time, and need them to hold my attention because I have a low attention span. This book was exciting and held my attention. I have listened to this book more than once and I have only had it a few weeks. I suprisingly I heard some things I missed the first time. This book is part of a series and it would be good to lisen to the books in order which I didn't. Either way it's very entertaining. I hope the author put more of her books on tape and extend this series. I was sorry it ended. There are some better than others, I enjoyed the series. I think Tempting is the best next to this one

Loved It!

I really don't like to read... books aren't my thing. But boy did I get hooked on this one! It was hard to put down. It was fun, fast paced and charmingly sexy. I can't wait to read her new novel "Sizzle!"

I half to say I so enjoyed this book, I wasn't sure even though the other reviews were good but once I started this book I had a hard time putting my I pod down I wanted to work out longer at the gym just so I didn't half to put it down. I enjoyed the romance part of this book and that it took time to develop, they weren't instantly in bed and that was nice for a change. I liked the twists and turns in this book some you expect some you don't and that was very fun, I hope that you enjoy as much as I did

Love this series!!

This is the second of the 3 (4th due out soon) Buchanan Series. It is a bit more serious but still sexy, intriguing, exciting and touching. I love all three (so far) of these gems but be certain to read them in order. I read them out of sequence and had to re-listen to one of them to pick up on several past characters that were glanced over in later books. Listen and enjoy!

You Won't Be Blue with this one

OH FOR PETE'S SAKE!! I have loved this whole series but this book takes the cake. What a wonderful, funny, sweet, romantic, strong, and lovely read. I wasn't sure the story of Jack and Lauren would be on par with the wonderful Fletchers but hot damn!! It's better. There is an added element of challenge and personal angst in this book that, to me anyway, did not appear in the first 3 and let me REPEAT, I loved the first 3. This is a must read for anyone who loves to melt with the richness of the story, the believability of the characters, the SUPERB writing and the familiarity of reconnecting with old book friends.

I stumbled upon this whole series on audible.com while looking for books narrated by Sophie Eastlake, of the BEST audible has to offer. I was SO not disappointed in either Sohpie's marvelous narration but also completely captivated by the writing voice of Virginia Kantra.

Please do yourself a favor and read this series...even better, listen to it. You won't be sorry.

I really had high hopes because I found Jack so intriguing in "Carolina Man". This story just did not live up to its potential. Everything was okay, but none of it drew me in like the previous books.

Not my favorite by this author...

Loving the Chase was one of those books I had a love/hate relationship with. The first half was where my frustrations came into play and the second half is where all my love came came into play. For the life of me, I couldnât connect with the protagonists, and it took what felt like forever for the story to gain any kind of gumption; I was certain that this book would land on my DNF shelf.

Iâm glad I listened to my friend when she told me keep going. She was right, after I hit around the 40% mark, it didnât take me too much longer to become fully invested in Zach and Maddiâs world. *Sigh* Zachâ I loved that man from the start to finish. He was perfect book boyfriend material. And probably one of the biggest reasons I agreed to continue on. He had me hooked. Line and sinker.

Maddi, on the other hand, left me wanting majorly. I didnât see her fitting Zachâs character at all. It took me quite a while, but I was able to get past some of my annoyances, enabling me to enjoy her character a bit more. Still, with that said, she was not my favorite choice of a heroine. I just couldnât fathom why Zach even wanted to be around her most of the time. I couldnât take her constant whining about how she was done wrongâugh! No matter how hard Ms. Lovelace tried, I just never really felt Zach and Maddiâs chemistry, emotionally or physically. Compared to her other characters, they fell rather flat in execution.

The one thing I will give this couple was the wicked hot sex scene in the thunderstorm. Holy. F***!!

As always, the writing was superb. The author provided well-developed characters as well as an intriguing plot. The story line was unique, one I hadnât come across before. Loving the Chase turned out to be a great second chance romance; although, I would have preferred a little less storm chasinâ and a little more romantic chasinâ. Zach and Maddi definitely had the potential to be a strong five star read with the last half of the book proving exactly why I am so in love with this authorâs writing. However, I really had to question that love with the way the first half dragged on leaving me with no choice but to drop stars.

While I may have struggled with the connection between the two protagonists, I can't say the same about the secondary characters. I LOVED the connection and personalities of Zachâs family and friends.
