Say I absolutely love stories where the main character has had a troubled and dangerous past, turns around makes the right decision in his and his family's life and finds love along the way. I love stories of redemption.

Which character as performed by Korey Jackson was your favorite?

Dray was my favorite.

Truly wonderful book

This is a great book; clever, witty and challenging, His central character is a monster but against your will you understand and sympathise with her, The experience of the book is enhanced even further by the fabulous performance by Buffy Davis-if there is an award for book performance, she should get it.

Better than The Bible

Will Self has a talent for looking at a subject from new perspectives. If the Bible is written to give comfort and information concerning death then god should have aksed Will Self to write it. The story follows a woman as she approaches death, dies, lives after death, is reincarnated and dies again.

His style , leaves you unsure of where the plot is going and why its going there. Consequently every word is read carefully and searched for meaning. As one does so, death the most emotive of subjects is explored and the messages are dripped in.

The conclusion to me - death is no big deal, it is living happily that is the trick.

Mad but fascinating

I especially liked the energy of the language as well as the originality of the story. I'd probably never have listened to more than one hour had I not been blown away by the power and the excitement of the text: i found it unputdownable and often listened far into the night when I should have been asleep. The story seemed quite mad but eventually it made sense in a very satirical way. I don't think it's for everybody though. The reader was superb!

Hateful

While Lily was still alive and spouting her hateful diatribes against anyone and anything, I found myself wishing her dead.

Then she died and it was all downhill from there.

Darkly funny and unputdownable

Lily Bloom is an amazing guide to life death and the great black afterlife. Darkly funnyand ummensley brave.

Elegaic

Mankell gives us a sobering account of the life of a weak & fallible man whose good intentions unwittingly lead to shrivelling of another's soul. Generosity of spirit is depicted in this book alongside fear and all it engenders when we let it take hold of us. Beautifully and meditavely written by this versatile writer, Daniel is an intriguing & moving book which has stayed in my mind.

Not one to opt for if you are after thrills & spills.

Master Mankell disappoints

This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

It's possible that someone who likes historical novels might enjoy this story, but this Mankell offering was not for me.

Has Daniel turned you off from other books in this genre?

This has been the only story written by this author that hasn't grabbed me, mainly because I found the characters difficult to like or even warm to. Despite Daniel not working for me, I am a major Mankell fan and have listened to/read most of his works. His Kurt Wallander series is compelling.

What about Sean Barretts performance did you like?

Sean Barrett has one of those voices you could listen to all night (and sometimes I do), because he voices all the characters and is a fine actor. He's one of the best readers of audio books and I have listened to stories simply because he has performed them.

You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Even though Daniel didn't hook me in, I'll still be recommending Mankell to all who will listen. Now I'm off to buy Kennedy's Brain

Uninspired, unconvinced

I am disappointed to say that this book bored me. If I had not been listening to an unabridged audiobook, well read by Sean Barrett, I think I would have abandoned it. I was totally unconvinced by the character of Daniel, whose reactions just didn't ring true for me. And before that, the long, drawn out descriptions of Hans Bengler's travels through the Kalahari desert could have benefitted from severe abreviation.

Hans Bengler was a nineteenth century scientist who aspired to find an unnamed insect in the African desert and hence make his name as an entomnologist.

Short and mysterious

What seemed to be a harmless stay in the Bed and Breakfast in Italy, after being caught in the rain, Adrian was in for a mystery. In his first night staying there with his parents, he met a five year old child, pale and blue-eyed and weirdly have cold hands. She wanted him to take her to her mother. What's weird is, she wants him to take her to her mother before she died! Her name was Allegra.

The next day, Adrian found the owner's daughter's name was also Allegra but much to his astonishment, it's not the same girl! This girl however wanted to see her father before she die. Creepiness ahead, the night Allegra kept coming to him.

He left only to know months later, the owner's daughter died due to an illness. And she died the same age as the night Allegra was.

The experience never left him only to meet another Allegra years after and the Night Allegra came to him again...

The book is short and pretty much a good quick read for me for my spare time. It kept the mystery to the end and pretty much fast pace. The characters and plots pulled you into the story. I love it. It's made for students hence it came with some after reading exercise to do for class or just for themselves in the back. I say it's good enough for students who need some reading done in class.

I like the book`The Mystery of Allegra`,because it was easy to read.I read it in two days and it wasn`t difficult for me,a girl,who have been learning English since the secound class.

The book tells us an exiting story about a boy,Adrian,who goes with his parents on holiday in Italy.They stay there one week and this weekis for Adrian very mysterious,because a beautiful five-year-old girlin a white nightdress with blond hair and blue eyes comes every night to him.She asks him:`Will you take me to my Mama?`

Adrian is going to find out the story of Allegra,the girl in the white nightdress.But there are four Allegas!

What I like about the story is that there is an exitingwave.The book tells the story of Allegra at the end.

What I don`t like about the story is the ending,because it`s boring.

But as I said:I like this book!

Read this book and you will understand`The Mystery of Allegra`.

Easy to read

The book "The Mistery of Allegra" by Peter Forman is interesting. In the beginning of the story it is very mysterious. But after sometime the story became easier to undertand. But in general the book was easy to read.

The text on the back cover of the book is very short but all information are in it.
