    thoroughly enjoyable
If you could sum up Born Bad in three words, what would they be?
    Funny interesting suspense
What did you like best about this story?
I lived the fact the story kept moving keeping interest
What about Mark Meadowss performance did you like?
He was really good kept in character and did make me giggle especially when he did tom's voice for the first time
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes I always enjoy a Josephine Cox novel
    Any additional comments?
Great listen would highly recommend it
    throughly good read
very gripping storyline, strong caricatures the only thing I had against the narration is Toms voice. well worth reading.
    All too 'convenient'
What disappointed you about Born Bad?
The fact that no time lapse was written in so everything happened at once, even though it was obvious and logical thing would/wouldn't happen as they did. Did not make the story plausible at all. It would have made a good Mills & Boon book as it was so shallow. The only unexpected thing was the event after the accident, the one thing I wasn't expecting
What could Josephine Cox have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She could have written in time lapses; made the non-existent 'search' a search. Left out some of the characters and concentrated on the main ones. It was too sugar sweet, despite the violence, too much padding and not enough substance
Would you listen to another book narrated by Mark Meadows?
As long as there weren't any children in it. His masculine voices were superb, the female ones acceptable, but the boy was diabolical spoiling the rest of his reading.
What character would you cut from Born Bad?
    The aunt and uncle

    Narrator: Anne Flosnik, John Lee
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 51 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-25-10
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 6 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
"I had been married three years when I fell in love," begins Kate, a firecracker of a woman who thought she'd found the yin to her yang in Cary, her sensible and adoring husband. For their friend Luke - a charismatic copywriter who loves women and attention in equal measure, and preferably together - life has been more than sweet beside Cressida, the dutiful pediatric oncologist who stole his heart. But when a whimsical flirtation between Kate and Luke turns into something far more dangerous, the foursome will be irrevocably intertwined by more than just their shared history.
After the Fall follows the origin and fallout of the most passionate of affairs through the eyes of all four characters, unveiling the misunderstandings and unspoken needs that lie beneath our search for love and connection. The narrative moves effortlessly between past and present, painting a nostalgic picture of the two marriages at their most idealistic - the exact moment when like turned to love - and at their most volatile. Thanks to the boundless compassion with which Ladd draws her characters, one can't help but root for them as they wrestle between newfound desire and remembrances of time past, all the while spinning toward an inevitable conclusion.
Steeped in psychological insight and raw emotion, After the Fall is an unsettling novel of the many ways we love and hurt each other.

    Read it to be bored!
This is the most boring book I have ever read. It reads like an AA drunk-a-log or perhaps the continuing epic of someone in sex addicts anonymous. I could barely make it through the first part, started on part 2, but had to stop the dribble. It lacks character development to entice the reader to become attached to the character. The timing is also off. Years go by and there is only a small sentence to indicate the shift in time. This in itself is good, because I can only imagine listening through more boring dialogue. I will try to go back and read the last chapter. Then again, I may just forget about it as this book deserves.
    Terrible Narration
Where on earth did the male and female narrators learn to speak their terrible Australian accents?
I'm halfway through the story, which is engaging enough but those voices! Caroline Lee would have made this book more bearable to listen to.
    Could not listen
I've read another 2 books by Kylie Ladd and really enjoyed but the narrators here are just terrible . Both are attempting the most awful Australian accent I've ever heard. It was not necessary. It could have been read by anyone - just because it's set in Australia it didn't require the attempt to sound Australian. Please Audible. Redo this one and I'll attempt another listen. Jo. NZ.

    Publisher's Summary:
Henry Tuhoe is the quintessential 21st-century man. He has a vague, well-compensated job working for a multinational conglomerate - but everyone around him is getting laid off as the company outsources everything it can to third-world countries. Henry has a beautiful wife - his college sweetheart - and an idyllic new home in the leafy suburbs, complete with a pool. But his wife won't let him touch her, even though she demanded he get a vasectomy; he's seriously overleveraged on the mortgage; and no matter what chemicals he tries, the pool remains a corpselike shade of ghastly green.
Then Henry's boss offers him a choice: go to the tiny, magical, about-to-be-globalized Kingdom of Galado to oversee the launch of a new customer-service call center for a boutique bottled water company the conglomerate has just acquired, or lose the job with no severance. Henry takes the transfer, more out of fecklessness than a sense of adventure.
In Galado, a land both spiritual and corrupt, Henry wrestles with first-world moral conundrums, the life he left behind, the attention of a steroid-abusing, megalomaniacal monarch, and a woman intent on redeeming both his soul and her country. The result is a riveting piece of fiction of and for our times, blackly satirical, moving, and profound.
    Critic Reviews:
"Othmer wrings humor from nearly every facet of contemporary culture.... It's well-done satiredark, but not too." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    "Continuous Partial Attention Syndrome"
Henry Tuhoe is vice president of under-arm research in a Proctor and Gamble-like multi-national consumer conglomerate; an exile from Manhattan suffering through the boredom of suburban "Meat Nights" and a self-absorbed wife whose latest kick is witchcraft. When Tuhoe fakes the vasectomy his wife pressures him to endure, he throws his old life aside, and heads to the fictitious third world mountain kingdom of Galado to set up a call center for the New Age bottled water company subsidiary of his corporation.
Former adman and author of "The Futurist" James P. Othmer strikes a number of chords in both hemispheres in this dark farce; a novel packed with crusades and messages that never feel forced or belligerent; the author staying faithful entertainment over proselytization. This is part Tom Wolfe and part Cory Doctorow, and while Othmer leaves Doctorow's attitude behind, his biting satire is more effective in corporate cube farms and the manicured lawns of Westchester subdivisions than it is in the third world. Notwithstanding, Othmer gathers a quirky and convincing cast that is clever enough to miss the stereotype branding, from the EEE-cup porn star TS Elliot-quoting secretary to the Aussie ex-pat businessman in Galado that knows all the wrong people in the right places. His irony and delicious cynicism have few bounds and fewer prisoners, skewerings with equal delight the easy targets (corporate greed and pollution, and spa resorts) and the more risky (same-sex marriage and the green movement) while shining some light on the very real global shortage of clean water.
Like Wolfe and the more hip Max Berry, Othmer has a keen eye for American culture as diffused through a lens of corporate bureaucracy and politics.

    Publisher's Summary:
Twelve years ago, librarian Betsy Treading was convicted of murdering her neighbor, the bohemian loner Linda Sue. After DNA testing finally exonerates Betsy, she returns to her suburban community determined to salvage her life and find the true killer. As she begins to pick apart the web of secrets, lies, and love affairs uncovered in the wake of her trial, Betsy suspects that her tight-lipped neighbors may know something that she has denied even to herself.
In Neighborhood Watch, Cammie McGovern captures the nail-biting electricity of the best literary thrillers and zeros in on the subterranean tension abuzz in a town whose dark secrets threaten to obliterate the glossy facade of a perfect life. It is also the story of a woman coming into her own, finding her strength, and taking control of her life. It asks, what sort of price would you pay for the sake of your reputation? Intricately woven, psychologically astute, and filled with complex and surprising characters, Neighborhood Watch marks a significant step in the career of this talented author.
    Critic Reviews:
"TV's Desperate Housewives would feel right at home on creepy Juniper Lane." (Kirkus)

Wanted to like it, plot just went crazy
What could Cammie McGovern have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I really wanted to like this book because it was written by Cammie McGovern who wrote the moving and beautiful Eye Contact. A couple simple things prevented that though. I didn't really like our main character Betsy, I found her at times boring, depressing and frustrating. Even hearing anything from her point of you made me feel like I was in a helpless fog, like she always seemed to be. I can't say that I liked any of the characters. To me, the characters are the main part of any mystery. But the worst thing about Neighborhood Watch was simply that the plot just goes berserk at some point. One moment we are following our unlikable characters through the secrets of their interpersonal relationships on their myndane cul-de-sac and the next moment people are babbling on about secret corporations working on cold fusion. Huh? It really was a bad book.

    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
In this Pygmalion tale of a novelist turned bond trader, Martha McPhee brings to life the greed and riotous wealth of New York during the heady days of the second gilded age.
India Palmer, living the cash-strapped existence of the writer, is visiting wealthy friends in Maine when a yellow biplane swoops down from the clear blue sky to bring a stranger into her life who will change everything. The stranger is Win Johns, a swaggering and intellectually bored trader of mortgage-backed securities. Charmed by India's intelligence, humor, and inquisitive nature, and aware of her near-desperate financial situation, Win poses a proposition: "Give me eighteen months and I'll make you a world-class bond trader." Shedding her artist's life with surprising ease, India embarks on a raucous ride to the top of the income chain, leveraging herself with crumbling real estate, never once looking backor does she?
With a light-handed irony that is by turns as measured as Claire Messud's and as biting as Tom Wolfe's, Martha McPhee tells the classic American story of people reinventing themselves, unaware of the price they must pay for their transformation.
    Critic Reviews:
Although no one can profess to comprehend the complexities of the current economic quagmire, McPhee dishes its jargon with all the aplomb of someone who TiVos CNBC. Delivering virulent social satire with a velvet, humanitarian touch, McPhees timely send-up deftly parodies the fallout from misplaced priorities. (Booklist)
Martha McPhee's fourth novel wouldn't be so funny if it didn't ring so true.McPhee has a lot of fun with a couple of archetypesa Pygmalion transformation of the novelist into a financial high roller and a city mouse/country mouse exchange of ambitionsbut what makes this novel work so well is that India continues to engage the reader's empathy, even affection, as she forsakes literary high-mindedness for filthy lucre. (Kirkus Reviews)
I cant remember the last time I couldnt put a book down. I read Dear Money in cars, in waiting rooms, even at a rest stop on the turnpike. I read whole passages out loud to my husband. Martha McPhee is a wickedly good social observer, a writer of beautiful, lyrical prose, and a consummate storyteller. This is a very smart novel that unpacks small surprises and pleasures on every single page. (Dani Shapiro, author of Black & White)

Great book - but difficut listen
This contender for the Man Booker prize in 2010 is a first rate story of reporters in Rwanda & Zaire during the horrible events of the 1990s. It is well and intricately told and reminded me of John LeCarre's understated style. Great book, but it requires attention. I found I couldn't follow it on Audible and I ended up purchasing a written version, which I loved. The reader, Gerald Doyle, uses a Scottish accent which is probably fitting, but his lilt made it sound as if every sentence ended with a question mark. It distracted me. I recommend listening to a sample before you buy.

"Spunky 32-year-old narrator Tina Finn is at her mother's funeral when she learns of her possible inheritance of an $11-million Central Park West palace. While she's been slogging it out as a trailer-dwelling cleaning lady, her somewhat estranged mother has gone from blue collar to living in eccentric splendor with her new husband, Bill..... A interesting biography!
    Interesting characters.
An interesting story line set in NYC. Characters are all fun. The language was a little rough. Enjoyed very much.
annoyed me but i couldn't put it down
in the end, i really liked this book - it took awhile to get going and catch my attention, but once it did, i couldn't put it down.
    Twelve Rooms with a View
I loved this book. Coming fron NY you always respected those large beautiful apts. Loved reading this story.
    A Satisfying Pleasure To Read
I enjoyed this story immensely because I like visiting Manhattan and I like old apartments. However, the real pleasure came from the characters in the story. Theresa Rebeck is a gifted writer when it comes to creating characters. These people are incredibly real. They were such distinct individuals that at one point I thought perhaps they were people that she knew. That goes for the main characters as well as those with minor roles. There is no doubt that Rebeck' s talent with dialogue has a lot to do with it. In fact, she is so good with writing dialogue, she deserves a separate award just for that. It's a good story with enough surprises to keep you turning the pages to see what's going to happen next. Even though Twelve Rooms With A View is chock full of humor, it is a dramatic story that could really happen. Compared to Jennifer Belle' s Little Stalker, Twelve Rooms' humor is, if not more subtle, at least more believable. But, I'm talking Apple's and oranges, and both books were fun to read.

    Show biz gossip
The thinly disguised story of Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh by someone who know them intimately during their glory years. Clever and delightfully gossipy!
The greatest trash the landfill's ever known
Just the kind of trashy, campy, gossipy novel that hits the spot when you need a fix. This isn't Literature, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes your brain says "give me a break", and for those times there are authors like Michael Korda. He fills a need.
This particular novel has leading characters based on Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier. Surely theirs was one of the greatest loves the world has ever known. Being that it is what it is, the focus of the book is twofold: sex and Shakespeare. Pretty trashy sex, too. Seriously, a torrid affair & a baby with your uncle-- What on earth? Discussed as if it's the most normal thing in the world. Then there's the whole question of the relationship between Olivier and Danny Kaye (known here as Randy Brooks); I'm sure if you're at all familiar with old Hollywood you've heard the rumours...
Silly book. Still I enjoyed it.
    Theatre and sex
For lovers of classical theatre, Shakespeare and old fashione movie stars in the tradition of Hollywood in the 40's, this is the book for you! While most readers will have undoubtedly read another of Michael Korda's books, Queenie, which was the thinly veiled story of Merle Oberon, "Curtain" follows in the same style with, this time, thinly veiled allusions to Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, in this book, called Robert Vane and Felicia Lisle. The story begins in Hollywood, where following Leigh's Oscar winning performance in "Gone with the Wind", the two lovers are appearing together in a financially disastrous tour of the US, in a series of Shakespeare's plays. The first sign of Felicia's mental fragility appears when she has a nervous breakdown, is hospitalised in a private sanitarium and the bills have to be paid by their agent, Hollywood sleaze, Marty Quick. This puts them in his debt for years and even after the start of WW2 when they have returned to London, he follows them to show his complete control over what they can perform. It's a very sexy book , peopled by over the top characters in whom the readers will totally believe (and perhaps even recognise). If you love movies and their stars, if you love Shakespeare and the stage and love being able to pick out thinly disguised, well known people, you'll adore this book.
    If You Liked "Queenie"...
If you liked "Queenie", you would hope to like "Curtain", but you'll be disappointed. It's a less-entertaining companion piece. This time, the central characters are based (at first) on still more people from Uncle Alex's wartime L.A. and London: Olivier and Leigh; their stage colleagues; Danny Kaye; a Billy Rose type. The structure is too close to "Queenie", the plot is too contrived, and the stars are quite tiresome over too many pages.
