Didn't really care who dun it by the end
Would you try another book written by Lucie Whitehouse or narrated by Polly Whitehouse?
Prolly was fine at narration, but didn't care for the writing.
Would you recommend Keep You Close to your friends? Why or why not?
No I wouldn't recommend it, I found it quite pedestrian and the characters unengaging.
Which character as performed by Polly Whitehouse was your favourite?
Non of them , that was the problem.
Was Keep You Close worth the listening time?
No it wasn't, it's a "who done it" with the usual twists and turns, but despite a few surprises it left me cold, I picked it because of the Oxfordshire setting but wish I hadn't.
    Any additional comments?
If you enjoy good writing and in depth character studies, this isn't for you, I was left not caring who killed who, why, where or when.
    A little disappointing
A very slow suspense type story, like a psychological thriller, but the characters lacked depth and I found it easy to guess who the 'baddie' was before it was revealed. Also for a psychological thriller the storyline was totally unrealistic.

    3.5 stars - interesting concept
I have noted that some of the other reviews state there are grammatical and punctuation errors. I can't speak to those issues because I listened to this book on my Kindle, rather than reading it. The book probably could have benefited from a good editing, but still I liked it. I thought the storyline was solid for the most part. The use of present tense threw me a little and I think I'd have enjoyed it more had it been written in the past tense. However, that is the author's call to make and it's just a personal preference of mine. I also wished there had been more information about how the Aggros defeated the US military because it was hard to understand how crazed persons who were unarmed could do so much damage to well-armed and well-trained soldiers. Those two issues aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and looked forward to returning to it each night to find out what would happen next. I especially liked the sinister nature of C-Shapes and the way it had infiltrated so many aspects of life. Very dystopian and eerie. I also liked the narrator and felt that his compassionate nature was revealed in his actions and attitude toward the afflicted. I was surprised by the ending. I think this author has a lot to offer readers. With just a little tweaking, this could be a 4 star tale.
    Awesome, but...
As I read this book, which was almost impossible to put down, all I could think about was that it would make a GREAT movie. Maybe with Brad Pitt as the lead. Sandra Bullock as Claire. Since I love the two friends together, George Clooney as Robert.
The 'but,' and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is because this novel really needs a good editor. There are extra words in sentences that shouldn't be there. There are words that should be there, but are not. Sometimes it was confusing, especially when the author was describing a new concept. However, I was usually able to muddle through.
Mistakes like those in this book are usually pretty difficult for me to deal with, especially when it's almost every sentence or paragraph. The overall idea, plot, and edge of your seat excitement made this book worth having to read sentences over and over to get the meaning. I would recommend this book to everyone I know, even those people like me who are a bit OCD about proper sentence structure. Even through the improper use of there, their and they're.
So even if those mistakes bother a reader, I would say this book is still worth it. The premise is terrifying and fascinating.
    Pretty good.
Surprisingly, this is a post apocalyptic story that DOESN'T involve zombies; the idea behind this work being pretty unique.

    Publisher's Summary:
When Darren Hatman reports his daughter, Leanne, missing, DI Wesley Peterson isn't too concerned. However, Darren's claim that a photographer has been stalking her soon changes Wesley's opinion.
Leanne works at Eyecliffe Castle, now converted into a luxury hotel. When Darren is found murdered on the grounds, the police fear that Leanne has met a similar fate. Meanwhile, archaeologist Neil Watson, recently returned from an excavation in Sicily, makes a disturbing discovery nearby and surprises Wesley with the news that, while in Sicily, he met Leanne's alleged stalker.
With Eyecliffe Castle becoming the scene of another death, Wesley suspects a connection between the recent crimes, the disappearance of two girls in the 1950s and a mysterious Sicilian ruin called the House of Eyes.
    Members Reviews:
I almost lost track of the number of bodies.
Wesley and Neil help each other solve several old and new murders that all happen near an old castle turned into a hotel. The hotel's owner and his mother are hiding something. So is the odd photographer/stalker and his landlady. And the parents of a missing girl are both keeping information from each other. Each chapter opens with excerpts from a creepy journal kept by a young man taking the "grand tour" with his cousin. How it connects to modern day and slightly older murders becomes clearer chapter by chapter. The solution of the crimes is not completely surprising but there are twists that I didn't see coming. Wesley's personal life takes a new direction which may interest readers who sometimes wish Pam would go away. (You may or may not get your wish.) But there is less of Wesley's extended family or Pam's horrible mother Della in this book, as there is more than enough happening at several crime scenes to keep your interest.
    Fabulous read
I love these books! This is the twentieth in the series, though each will stand alone, and it is not necessary to read them in order. In each book Wesley is working on solving a case that is in some way connected to or parallel with an archaeological dig on which Neil is working. In this one, Wesley is investigating the disappearance of a local girl. Several suspects present themselves and each has a motive. In the course of the investigation the parents of the missing girl are murdered. Then several cases of missing girls over a decade old are found to be related. Wesley, with a few clues uncovered by Neil, eventually untangles the common cause behind all of them. This book, indeed the entire series, focuses primarily on the case, with just enough detail of the personal lives of those involved to draw in the reader.
    Wesley Peterson
I really enjoy this series. It may not be up there with the greatest books of all time - but it is always entertaining and the characters are interesting and well developed
In this story a young girl, Leanna, goes missing. She works in a spa and has hopes of becoming a model. In the search for Leanna, other people are murdered.
Along with the main story is a story from many years ago - these stories intertwine. If you like history and how the past relates to the present you will enjoy this series
    Five Stars
I love Kate Ellis' Wesley Peterson series.

    Publisher's Summary:
A taut tale of greed, murder, and revenge as combat-weary Marines take on the crooks of Wall Street. Gold in the Coffins follows the story of a tight band of retired Marines who bonded during a bloody tour of duty in Vietnam, only to find themselves facing a darker enemy back home, the demons of Wall Street.
Donnie DeAngelo survived Vietnam and the rough streets of his childhood by never giving up the fight, whether his enemy was the Viet Cong or the mob. Defying all odds, he launched a successful coffee and food business and decided to take his company public, but a Wall Street power broker has other plans for his business: force him and his comrades into bankruptcy and loot the spoils.
When Donnie threatens to blow the whistle, his best friend winds up dead - and it looks like Wall Street has drawn first blood. Donnie and members of his former platoon are betrayed by the system they once fought to defend, leading them to conclude that revenge is a dish best served bloody.
USA TODAY best-selling author Cara Lockwood called Gold in the Coffins "a satisfying thrill ride" and said, "This is a book that unfolds like it was meant to be an action movie."

This is an amazing book! It's got such intrigue -- from the love and devotion of family, the depth of life-long friendships of 3 Viet Nam veterans whose ties and loyalties are thicker than blood, to the dishonesty of Wall Street money titans whose only ambition is to steal from unsuspecting legitimate businesses. The story is told from the perspective of Donnie DeAngelo, the protagonist whose story telling is so compelling and real, the reader sometimes loses the sense that this is purely fiction.
Five stars from this reader. I hope it won't be long before we can read the sequel!
    I SALUTE THIS BOOK!

A riveting story about a true honest American and war hero, DeAngelo, and the major hardships in the rise and fall in business, family, friends and life. A sincerely captivating plot where ALL the characters elicited true emotion from me, even bringing me to tears at points. A memorable read that touched my heart and mind. This novel can stimulate anyone and is a must read. The BEST book I have ever read!!!!!!!!!!

    Tomb Raider type adventure
An action adventure story with a touch of the supernatural. Elisa Hill is a myth hunter, an archaeologist who is searching for some ancient tablets that will lead her to the lost continent of Lemuria. Of course, as in any good adventure, she encounters adversaries, challenges and dangers along the way. Some what reminiscent of Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones this story holds no great surprises. Having said that, it is still a quick, entertaining read and the inclusion of a little supernatural, in the form of a Kitsune, was a bit different. Even though it is a plot driven story, the characters are likeable and have some depth to them. I found that the interplay and slight sexual tension between Hill and Davalos gave their characters some reality. The fight scenes are a little gory and implausible, especially in their weapon choices (mainly swords) since it is set in modern times, but then again it is fiction. If Indian Jones can survive a huge rolling rock then why not be able to slice a bullet in half with a sword! The narration fit the book well in the most part, but some of the accents were a little off. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com.
A Female Indiana Jones in a Mythical World.
If you could sum up The Lost Continent in three words, what would they be?
    Dangerous Treasure Hunting.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Adding the shape shifter plus some of the other mythical features (statues coming to life) makes the story more exciting and dynamic. Adding the other worldly dimension was done very plausibly.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Personally, I liked the scene where Stubby is threatening Seth with a gun and Seth responds by throwing a knife and cutting off Stubby's hand. That was well written and kind of awesome.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This is an exciting, adventure packed book. Caroline McLaughlin gives another great performance. Possibly because it is an action book, it is a little weak on character development. It is a solid entertaining book, but it will not move you.
    Any additional comments?
This book contains graphic descriptions of violence.

The brand-new thriller featuring Investigative Analyst Fredrika Bergman and Alex Recht of the Stockholm police.
Shortly after a crowded New York-bound flight takes off from Stockholm, a bomb threat is found onboard. Anonymous hijackers demand that the Swedish government revoke its decision to deport a Moroccan man. If their demands are not met, the plane will explode if it attempts to land. The US and Swedish governments must choose between negotiating with terrorists in order to save the 400 passengers held hostage at 30,000 feet or to stand their ground and pursue the deportation of a possibly innocent man.

    Don't be put off!
I found Kristina Ohlsson by pure chance and loved the first 3 books on the Fredrika series, however this book, and not because of the terrorist angle or the fact a character is missing, is not one of my favourites. I felt some of the chapters to be repetitive and the story itself didn't seem to flow. The time scale seemed off within the story and the ending was not a shock but predictable in the sense of it wouldn't have happened in any other way.
I would listen to the following book should it become available because I like the author.
    Hostage
I couldnt finish listening as the narration was awful. I will get the book on kindle as I think the story is good.
    Narration woeful
If 0 stars were possible, that is what this narrator would get. She was so unbelievably stilted, slow and totally out of rhythm with the writing, I had to fast forward through the story at times.
This made it impossible to get into the plot, so comments about the book itself are only a reflection of the poor narration.

A must listen for audiobook lovers!
If you could sum up Grey Areas in three words, what would they be?
    Powerful
    Intriguing
    Mysterious
What was one of the most memorable moments of Grey Areas?
The car accident where Henry saved a mans life as well as the mans severed limb.
What does Brad Carl bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Brad Carl captured every nuance of each character and painted the backdrop of their environment with his narration to near perfection. Brad Carl is a prime example of why authors should read their own work.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The tentative relationship between Henry and Claire along with their witty banter moved me throughout the story.
    Any additional comments?
Brad Carl has done a phenomenal job at crafting an incredibly compelling story. Grey Areas pulled me in from page one and wouldnt let me go until the cliffhanger (hooked me and left me salivating for book 2) on the last page. The rich characters and dynamic plot with its twists and turns carried me through this impeccably narrated piece of literature so well, that I felt I was walking along side Henry Fields, the books protagonist, as he navigates the NOT so simple small town that he hoped for. Grey Areas is the perfect beginning to this four-book saga. Im starting book 2 this evening and am looking forward to picking up where Henry Fields and I left off.
    Audio Version Adds Texture
Would you consider the audio edition of Grey Areas to be better than the print version?
The audio version certainly added a layer of texture to it.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The whole book is a fast-paced, edge of your seat, thriller. It wasn't hard to stay tuned for the whole two+ hours. I listened to it during my commute to work.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Where we find that Henry (more than likely) has a history with weapons.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    The killings were shockers.
    Any additional comments?
Henry Fields is a man with a past, looking to disappear into a place where no one knows him. Unfortunately for him, small town Iowa is not about to cooperate -- perhaps out of scorn for strangers or the past that doesn't want to leave him alone. Despite all the goodwill of the folks of Gable, Henry is thrust into a nasty situation with only his wits to save him.
The smooth voice narration of Brad Carl adds a palpable layer to this already fantastic book. As an ex-radio personality, Brad is the the consummate professional. Most folks might be turned off by the thought of the author reading their own work as the productions often turn out to sound "tinny" or "airy", but this was, without a doubt, recorded in a professional sound studio.

    Members Reviews:
Great detective story with a unique twist
This book has a great hook! STYX is a serial killer-themed detective story with a unique spin. I love the theme that a corrupt middle-aged cop has to be murdered and turn into a zombie in order to find his humanity. I also love the tone of the book. It's gritty, bitter, sad, dark but also funny. I found it to be a quick, enjoyable read. The book is penned by Dutch author Bavo Dhooge and skillfully translated and interpreted by American author Josh Pachter. I was very impressed with Pachter's translation, which brings out the heart and humor honestly and effectively in this dark story. Readers should not expect a lot of explaining or detail into the hows and whys regarding the character's sudden undead transformation. It's also important to note that this isn't a typical zombie book where the entire town transforms into the "Walking Dead." The zombie aspect is much more personal and...tortured. The author leaves some things unanswered and open. If you are okay with books that do that, you're going to love this one.
    Unique Belgian Noir
Americans don't read enough literature in translation, which is sad, because terrific writers like Bavo Dhooge aren't well known here. He's the author of 100 books, yes 100, and this is the first to be translated into English. It's a noir set in Belgium's faded seaside resort town of Ostend, and focuses on the strange fate of a detective hunting a serial killer with a taste for turning his victims into grotesque "installations." He and the psychopath have a bizarre encounter and the detective somehow turns into a zombie--but he doesn't drop the case even though he's decomposing! The humor is deadpan, the story moves swiftly, the mood is delightfully dark, the feel is fresh and exciting.
