    Publisher's Summary:
The first rule of the market is you do not talk about the market.
When a mysterious invite arrives in the mail and Father Menchu responds by whisking Sal off to Lichtenstein, the former cop is left on very new ground as she gets more than a glimpse at the broader world of magic users. Unfortunately, they are immediately confronted by a wealthy businessman who is less upset about them blowing up his boat two episodes ago than he is about them stealing his (sludge-demon releasing) book. When the three remaining team members back in Rome suddenly find themselves under attack, Sal and Menchu are left scrambling for how to help and have to turn to the peculiar techno-cultists whose computers run on seahorses and have a pointed interest in the cop sister of their acquaintance, Perry. Welcome to the Market Arcanum.
This episode is brought to you by team writer Margaret Dunlap, who shows us that the society is far from the only fish in the magic-hunting sea - and certainly isn't the biggest.
    Critic Reviews:
"Bookburners is an exciting new take on urban fantasy. Love the premise, love the characters, love the unique (and sometimes wonderfully disturbing) spin on the dangers of magic!" (Cassandra Rose Clarke, author of
    The Assassins Curse)
"Bookburners has everything I want from episodic storytelling - strong writing, a rich premise, and memorable characters that will keep me coming back week after week." (Mike Underwood, author of the Ree Reyes Geekomancy series)

A compelling mystery/thriller by Nick Chiarkas
If it moves away from you, it's food; if it moves toward you, you're food. The 1957 murder of an undercover cop in a New York City housing project has unexpected ties to the unsolved disappearance of a young father walking home in those same projects with his son, Angelo, on Christmas Eve six years before. The only witness to the cop killing is Angelo, now 13, while on his way to seek his own revenge in the early morning hours. The killers know he saw them. A series of gripping events forge a union between a priest, a Mafia boss, a police detective, and Angelo, a gang member. In the end, Weepers shows us that the courage of the underdog despite fear and moral ambiguity will conquer intimidation.

    3.5 out of 5 stars
This was one of those books I went out of my typical comfort zone to read. I loved the back story of the author and what the book was about, but its not my typical genre (so just know that with this review).
The audiobook was narrated by Josh Chiarkas and wasn't good but wasn't bad. He has a very blue-collar voice (which I assume the author wanted to go with). You could tell that Josh either grew up in the city or is talented enough to emulate a city-dweller's type voice. The narration told the story in a gritty way (which fits with the tone of the novel).
I enjoyed the book and I can tell that Nick wrote what he knew. The details and information that he wrote out were very based-in fact and I think that's what made this book so "real" for me. For me, the story would weave from "I don't believe it" to very believable when different things happened (but I didn't grow up in that type of neighborhood). I can tell that the author really did his research before writing a debut novel like this.
All-in-all a good gritty, true to life city crime/suspense book.
I was given a free copy of this in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

He quickly learns that Jimmy been committed after yet another failed suicide attempt, and his old boss is dead at the hands of Mexican drug lord Armando Vega. Carl's only way to quick cash and a fresh start is through Armando. He hires Carl for a simple assignment of busting up a rival meth lab that turns complicated and deadly. Now, Carl and Jimmy are on the run from the Mexican drug cartel as well as the police after a messy robbery. It would be a lot harder to find them if they didn't leave so many bodies in their wake.

    a surprise package
Simple White Trash was a surprise package. After reading the summary, it sounded like a simple premise if not a little dangerous; however, bythe time you get to the end of this book youhave a whole cast of characters that you meet along the way of this story that come together in the climactic last scenes. As the book opens up with Carl O'Donnell being released from prison, the picture of simple white trash isdefinitely painted as the listener hears about being in and out of jail, rusty old trailers, and drug-related careers. You definitely try to get on Carl's side though as the story progresses and we hear of how he cares forhis mentally-challenged brother, Jimmy, and being raised by an alcoholic father. An unfortunate set of circumstances, although this seems to be the way of life for Carl, leads to Carl and Jimmy being on the run from a Mexican drug cartel. The second half of the book, is full of a crazy characters and even crazier circumstances that will not leave you disappointed. I was definitely impressed with how well developed the characters and the story came together inthis shorter book and completed the story for Carl and Jimmy for the listener.
The narrator, DJ Holte, was perfect for this book bringing a harsh, raspy voice and a hint of a southern drawl. It was aideal match for the severe nature of the story and the rigid characters that portrayed the grim events of this story. I was impressed with his abilities from start to finish and I could easily distinguish characters without losing any of the roughness in hisvoice. I would definitely listen to both the author's stories and narrator's books again in the future.

    Home at last
Conspiracies seem to be the reason for all of the trouble. He was a victim of sabotage and spent ,three months in the mountains before he could walk out. But finally back to his wife, safe and home.
    Loved the suspense
I didn't think the title of this book fit the plot, and story line. The story did start with Detective Alex Foster being stranded after his plane went down. Everyone thought he was dead, including his wife Jessica. That was just where the book started. The book really didn't go in to great detail about that time that Alex was stranded.
This story had a lot of suspense to it. After Alex was rescued, he found out his plane crash was no accident. He had to find out who was after him. Before he crashed, and was stranded for months he, and his wife were having problems. Alex being in law enforcement wanted to shelter Jessica, from his job. Jessica felt Alex was keeping her at arm's length. They both wanted kids, but so far Jessica had not been able to get pregnant. It was sweet when Alex found out Jessica was pregnant with his child. The two grew as a couple, throughout the story. Someone was targeting Jessica, and Alex was very protective of her, while he worked the investigation. At one point I thought I knew who the villain was, but it turned out I was wrong. I love it when I can't guess the plot. The author did a great job writing this story.
    Five Stars
    Loved this book
    Loved it
Very good book that had me unable to put it down until it was all done. It opens with Alex flying his plane through a snowstorm to a meeting with friends. His mind is somewhat distracted by the memory of the argument he'd had with his wife the night before. He's also not feeling well, which affects his reflexes when his plane has engine problems. He crash lands in the middle of a remote area.
His wife Jessica believes that he is either dead or has disappeared to get away from their troubled marriage. Three months later she is stunned when he reappears, limping, bearded and much thinner, but very much alive. Both of them look at his return as a chance to repair their marriage, but can they break old habits?
The strain on their marriage had been caused by a couple things. First, the stresses of their inability to conceive and Alex's refusal to consider adoption pulled them apart. Second was Alex's overprotectiveness. He wouldn't talk to Jessica about his work, preferring to keep the seamier side of his life separate.

    A DEFINITE PAGE TURNER!!
If you could sum up Rain of Terror in three words, what would they be?
    Exciting, chilling and unexpected
What was one of the most memorable moments of Rain of Terror?
The most memorable moment of this book for me was who Jed found in the burning house.
    Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was also the burning house and the subsequent unraveling of the mystery. Jed might have been the man for the job after all.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Any additional comments?
My beautiful wife read this book first and urged me to read it without delay. Since I find it difficult to find time to spend multiple hours sitting idle to read, I was thrilled when this book was released on audio. I soon found myself listening at every available moment. In the truck, at the gym, you name it. The details of the Blacklick Valley (Western, PA) and its landscape were extremely intricate and perceptionally visible, including the scents and smells of the seasons. I thought Tony did and excellent job narrating this book, by Donna Cummins. He brought such life to the characters, differentiating each with a unique tone. I could feel Bonnies angst at Billy's disappearance and the worry in Jed's voice, as time to find Billy was slipping away. Even Jenny's motherly tone and Timmy's excitement. I was not able to guess "whodunnit" until the precise moment that Donna wanted me to.

This One Will Mess With Your Head
Once upon a time, I thought audio books were boring and monotonous. The few books I chose to listen to were narrated by people who didn't care how much life and personality they brought to a story and its characters, which made most of them unbearable. After trying a few, I gave up on the medium all together.
Then I discovered Chris Barnes. Chris has a delightful Scottish accent, but reads in whatever accent is necessary to be as true to his characters as possible. More importantly, he figures out what makes each character "tick" and brings each to life in a way I never imagined, even if I've read the book beforehand.
Shoebox is the story of Lee, a man who finds a box filled with money buried in his garden. He knows this money will change his life and solve all his problems, so he will do anything to protect it. This is a dark psychological thriller with an ending you won't soon forget.
I have always loved Michael Bray's stories and when he teams up with Chris Barnes, the combination is brilliant.
Shoebox is short, but it will make you think and shock you with its ending. It is a must-have for fans of horror or dark thrillers.
    Nothing scarier than skewed reality
If you could sum up Shoebox in three words, what would they be?
    Psychological, Terrifying, Depressing
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot most assuredly kept me on the edge of my seat. The unwinding of Schofield, quite sharply, I might add kept you listening to find out just how far down the rabbit hole he's gone. His paranoia at even the most outlandish situations makes you question the realities around him.
Which character as performed by Chris Barnes was your favorite?
Schofield of course. His sudden find of the shoebox, to the downward spiral, to the terrifying conclusion is portrayed to perfection. He gives nothing away as the story twists and turns and leaves you shocked as the final words are spoken.
    Any additional comments?
Isn't the first audio I've listened to by Chris Barnes, won't be the last. His ability to tell a story, and get deep inside the characters heads creates a connection that envelops you, and draws you into the story.
If you've not heard him yet, this is a great way to start!
no one can be trusted, especially yourself
The Shoebox is a very short, quick listen, dark psychological thriller. With a small character count of three. But really the only one that matters is Lee Schofield the protagonist.
One day Lee is out in his garden when he discovers a shoebox that doesnt belong out in his garden. A quick peek inside he discovers the box contains 180,000. With this amount of money Lee believes that he will be able to start his life over and fix all of his problems.
Almost immediately Lee is over come with paranoia.

    Love Them
I have read them all and I love them all. I am a cat person, so I read books that have cats as characters. That is why I read the first book in the series and because it was good, I just kept reading each one that came after.
How can you resist Tatiana? A cat that can disappear. Or Zeus, the handsome tuxedo ? Of course Jack and Grace are wonderful detectives and aren't too bad as the cats humans.
If you like cats you will enjoy all the tales that include Jack, Grace, Tatiana, and Zeus. Enjoy being entertained.
    Another Koala review
I really enjoyed reading this book, loved howTatania could twitch her ears and disappear and how she was always focused on the case. Zues the tuxedo cat is adorable a more this book a bit more laid back than Tatania but they go together perfectly. A bit of Romance, mystery very nice story lines.
    Almost worth five stars.
Although this was very light reading, it was fun and grabbed my interest right away. I'll probably look for more in this series. If the proofreading/editing had been just a little more thorough, I would have given it 5 stars.
    9 Lives to Live
I love these books. I love the era in which it is written and the stories. I have not finished reading all she has written yet, but I have read this one.
    Four Stars
I got the whole series and enjoyed them all very much.

What happens when the quiet coastal town of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, is terrorized by a sadistic killer?
David Jennings and Mary Roberts expected their life to return to normal after devastating events nearly tore them apart. But moving forward isn't easy with the ghost of their past still haunting them. Mary is trying to forget the past, but David is stuck there.
Then one dark night, as he strolls along the beach, David discovers the body of a missing mayor. Her death was brutal, and it has people whispering about cults, Satanists, and witches.
As the bodies begin to pile up, fears spiral out of control. Witches are called out, but Mary doesn't believe the nature-loving Wiccans she knows could be so evil.
Dark Beach is a romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat to the bitter end.

    Death to Mayors
Being a mayor in Atlantic Beach is a deadly position as both the mayor and then the succeeding mayor are murdered. David who is having a hard time coping with his father's death, his guilt over his girl friend's abduction and the betrayal by his sociopathic mother discover's the first mayor's body while walking the beach.
David and Mary are in a crisis in their relationship due to the issues that they both and especially David has to come to grips with. The detective Sam Rogers is encouraging David to consider law enforcement as a profession.
The story is good and entertaining but could be stronger and more well developed. For example there could of been a more detailed history and psychological make up regarding the villain. It wasn't a three star story however it wasn't quite on the level of a story that I usually give 4 stars to. However I am hooked on the series and am looking forward to the next book.
The main draw back is the narration. The narrator does a good job giving each character his/her own distinctive voice. The problem is that the narrator sounds like an elementary school child reading in front of the classroom.
I really feel for David and hope he can get his life on track. Fortunately he has two people, Mary and detective Sam Rogers in his corner.

murder and witches and sand, oh my!
This is one of those books that is difficult for me to review, because it is a borderline book. There are elements in it that appealed to me very much, and others that emphatically didnt. I had not read the first book in this series, but the author made it easy enough for me to orient myself and catch up on past events, without detracting from the new story.
While some of the plotting was excellent and nicely complicated, it wasnt as developed as I like. For a mystery plot to work, there should be some strong foundations, so that, when everything is complete, we can trace the indications of the villains identity back through well placed incidents in the book, and that foundation just wasnt there.
