    Narrator: Mikael Naramore
    Format: Unabridged

    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
Deep under The Mountain on Snakeholme, vast computer networks are running simulations, but they're flawed and General Burgton's self imposed mission to safeguard the Alliance is in jeopardy. Without reliable intelligence, he cannot protect the Alliance from itself, let alone the Merkiaari.
The missions he authorises are blacker than black, so secret that only he and the agents performing them know of their existence, but every operation relies upon his seemingly miraculous fore-knowledge of events and he is starting to make mistakes.
Needing a solution, Burgton breaks the Alliance's A.I ban and spends trillions of credits on project Oracle, but when the project fails, and desperation sends him looking for an answer, he compounds his crime. If he can't build an A.I, he'll just have to steal one!

    Even Better
Again, Nothing "Deep and Mind Twisting", but decent Space Combat Sci-Fi with Aliens and Bio-Armor, etc, if you like that sort of thing (Which I do).
Book 3 is Better than Book 2, which in turn is better than book 1 ;)
Book 3 starts out a little, I dunno.. let's say "At a skill level comparable to Book 1", but then it quickly gets better.. the writer seems to improve and refine his skills with each new book. The Clumsy Start MAY be due to some sections that are "Cut and Paste" right out of the previous books in the series, mostly when reiterating past events for people who may not have read the First books in the series.
I just hit the halfway mark in Book 4, and popped over here to see if there was a book 5 by chance (HEY! It CAN happen! I had it happen once before... no lie! ;)
It's a bit strange how the author sets up a MAJOR set of events, and then cuts away from them leaving loose ends that you are SURE he's going to come back to, and then suddenly he's setting up an entirely NEW series of events (Some even have totally new characters), which also kinda gets left hanging when he starts a NEW Branch of adventure down yet another path... I hope he ties all of these previous dangling ends together rather than just popping back to the same setting and it being "Several Months Later" (Which has happened a few times, right when you're expecting to read about a major battle).
I have to admit, at times I found myself thinking, "YES! We KNOW you know a LOT of cool character names, Stop naming everyone and GET ON WITH THE STORY!!!"
If you're hanging in there with the series past book one, the series DOES get significantly better with each new book!
    Where is the next audiobook?!
Where are the next audio books? Great story and a talented reader. Please hurray and produce the rest in the story. Thanks Barb.
    One of the best
A great series you will not regret. Worth your time to read or listen to.
The story keeps getting better and better
What did you love best about Operation Oracle?
What an engrossing story! This continuation of the Merkiaari Wars further develops the characters and the settings. New entities and challangpes are introduced promising many more directions for the plot to follow. Although there are powerful characters none are without weaknesses and vulnerabilities; there are no "Mary Janes" in this series!Mark Cooper is a masterful writer and owns this genre.

    EarthRise/Deathday
What made this series special to me was the fact that I live in the pacific NW, South sound area around McChord AFB. It was great being able to know landmarks that Bill was referring to. It gave me more excitement and feeling more involved in the story. The premise of our satellite probe, Voyager, pointing the way to earth was a little frightening. The characters were great, the story was great. The outcome of EarthRise was especially pleasing. One other thing though, the narrator probably should have done some additional research on how to pronounce some of the cities and locations. There are a number of towns and cities in this neck of the woods that have some very challenging names. Great job Bill.

Interesting book about the way humans act.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I thought the ending was both a heart jerker and cliff hanger
Do you think DeathDay needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
If the book had a follow-up I would listen.
    Any additional comments?
There was little science in this book. The aliens were just a backdrop. The story was about how humans in general and American in particular act when the structure of our society is torn. In that aspect I think it did a very credible job.

    concerned by low ratings.
Where does DeathDay rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This is an original story. Has nothing to do with any other book or movie. The people who gave this book a low rating must not have actually read or listened to the book. I enjoy ed the exploration of race based descrimenation. And the coming together of all humanity in the end. I can't wait to listen to the next book. William C. Dietz does his normal excellent story telling in a believable very non utopian future. Being from the area where this story takes place he has studied the northwest well. All places and land marks are spot on. Sorry for the spelling. Some words I have to spell phoneticaly do to dyslexia.

    Title: The Amazon Legion
    Subtitle: Carrera, Book 4
    Author: Tom Kratman
    Narrator: Piper Goodeve
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 18 hrs and 13 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-17-14
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 70 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
On the colony planet of Terra Nova, Carrera has achieved his revenge, destroying those who had destroyed his life by killing his wife and children in a terrorist strike. And, with this help of his second wife, he has thwarted an attempted coup that would have restored the rule of the oligarchy and undone his hard-won victory. But his fight is not over yet....
The problem of the Tauran Union's control of the Transitway between Terra Nova and Earth remains, as does the problem of the nuclear-armed United Earth Peace Fleet, orbiting above the planet. The Taurans will not leave, and the Balboans - a proud people, with much recent success in war - will not tolerate that they should remain.
And yet, with one hundred times the population and three or four hundred times the wealth, the Tauran Union outclasses little Balboa in almost every way, even without the support of Old Earth. Sadly, they have that support. Everything, everyone, will have to be used to finish the job of freeing the country and, if possible, the planet. The children must fight. The old must serve, too. And the women?
This is their story, the story of Balboa's Tercio Amazona, the Amazon Regiment.
    Members Reviews:
Interesting approach and appraisal of the issues
As a discussion of the issues facing a military force including women and homosexuals, this is an interesting read. However, it is the second book, of three, that retraces the same plot territory. This strikes me as a "side book" rather than a main plotline book, but there's just not enough of the main story to support the side book. Directly following Lotus Eaters, I felt like it was indulgence on the part of the author to wrap his policy proposal in fiction. Since I'm, at least, willing to consider the ideas he puts forth, for me to be bugged by it is probably a bad sign.
Boring! More like a case study for 1/2 of book.
Would you try another book from Tom Kratman and/or Piper Goodeve?
Yes, the books up to this point have been very entertaining, hopefully the next book will be better. Piper, probably not.
What do you think your next listen will be?
March to the Stars by Johnn Ringo. I need a pick me up after this book.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I understand why a female narrator was used but Piper never really sold the characters or the battle to me.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
First half of the book read as a case study to me and I felt a little cheated. Honestly it was painful. Second half of the book was OK but didn't make up for the first half in my opinion. I came very close to giving up on this book and that has never happened before.
    Any additional comments?
Stick to the evolving series story line and don't go down into the minutiae to try to build the character. I'm sure the author enjoyed the theoretical challenge of how to fit/evolve his female characters into the battlefield given the limitations he defines. I did not enjoy it as that isn't what I bought the book for. I bought the book to continue the series story line from where it had left off in the last book. I would have taken his word that it was hard training these women for battle and that due to the nations size it was needed.

The start of another great story
So now we figure whats up with that kid from the last book; similar to Regan, Ben has a mission to fulfill where he tracks down the initiators of the apocalypse and terminates them. Don't worry though, the old gang aren't too far off.
Now this book starts its own storyline and introduces new elements and plots, just as mysterious as in the old books. I'm on book 6 and I still don't know whats going on :). The new plot line has to do with a lot of beautiful women seemingly bred or, I'm guessing now, even cloned from the past playboy models, and raised for some secret purpose.
Now I don't like over the top, far fetched plots and these series of books are kinda that, but the author is an expert in weaving these intricate plots while still keeping the plausibility of it all. If it wasn't realistic, I'd have dumped this series a long time, but the story set up is pretty good, the best I've read in a zombie book actually.
Best character: Harrison! Grumpy potty mouthed old man with humor befitting a freaking zombie apocalypse! Great narration work on him and all the other characters.
This book has 3 narrators! Wow! They're not all talking at the same time, rather one narrator controls certain characters and their scenes always seem to comprise of just those characters and the same narrator. I think. I'm not sure, but it works it great.
    factual errors
good story but some of stuff is unrealistic. I know Zombies arnt real either. But even treated gas or diesel won't last 5 years let alone 20. Also ammo goes bad. the story line makes up for the literary license.
Up to this one I four starred. Downhill from here
Would you try another book from A. R. Wise and/or the narrators?
    Narrators are fine
Do you think Deadlocked 5 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
    No
    Any additional comments?
I've enjoyed this series up until #5 and then downhill. This was just okay. The main bug for me is the addition of the storyline and character Echo/Celeste - girls being "farmed" for lack of a better word in some underground bunker for some reason I haven't figured out yet but has something to do with rich and of course evil old women. (snore) Add in gratuitous graphic juvenile lesbian sex scenes and I'm bored.
    AN AWESOME BOOK!!
What did you like about this audiobook?
I loved it all! I wasn't too sure about the 4th one- I was worried that it hadn't been as good as the others but then I gave this one a go- and I am so that that I did! The characters are brilliant and the whole concept is ace.

Great Story, Solid Narration by Ray Chase
Where does Human Plus rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Human Plus ranks 8.65 - 9.28 out of 10 in my modified rating scale. This audiobook combined a fast paced storyline with sizable slabs of thought provoking techno-cognitive harangues. As an added bonus, the author was gracious enough to include an omnipneumatic sex goddess whose mission in life is to be pounded like a pornstar by the main character as often as possible in order to compensate for feelings of rejection and low self esteem after some brainiac power monger that got his fill and then chucked her. Why didn't Human Plus score higher? Blame James' earth shakingly poor decision regarding his relationship with the above mentioned beauty.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Human Plus?
When James is smacked in the side of his head by a lead pipe named cold hard truth regarding who he is and what he is destined to do.
Have you listened to any of Ray Chases other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to many audiobooks narrated by Ray Chase. This audiobook compares quite favorably. In my opinion, this book is the second best one out of the 4 book series. The first book, Sub-Human I believe, tops it for reasons that you, fair reader, probably do not give a damn about anyways.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Extreme reaction? The closest I came to extreme was when James makes that decision I have already mentioned regarding his relationship with his girlfriend - a healthy, bright eyed eager young woman who pretty much admits to his face that all she wants to be is his own personal nympho. I just stood there shaking my head.
    Any additional comments?
I hope there are more sequels coming. Ray Chase is the perfect fit for this kind of book. He brings a certain something to the books he narrates that I would prefer to listen to him read the book to me rather than sit and read the book. That is the mark of a quality narrator.
Take the red pill. Stay in Wonderland...
Thought I had Simpson figured out. You've been there, too.
You listen or read a series of novels, and you get a basic idea of an inevitable path, of sorts. You expect, you analyze, you feel that you're ahead a few key steps, and then you...
Get surprised, and in the case of Simpson's latest, Human Plus, I was surprised, and in a good way. A Matrix-ey sorta way.
Start with a happy modern world very much like out own, and put the chief architect of its technological future dead center of an astounding conspiracy. A world-wide conspiracy. A world that has very few, if any REAL citizens in it, despite the millions that walk its streets, ride its waves, or drive its highways.

The combined forces of humanity have beaten back the First Imperium invasion. For the first time, the enemy has been defeated in battle. The cost was high in blood and suffering, but the Line held. The heart of human-occupied space has been saved from annihilation. For now.
There is little time for the victorious warriors to savor their triumph or mourn their dead. The First Imperium has been driven back, but it has not been defeated. No one expects the fruits of victory to be more than a brief respite.
Augustus Garret, Erik Cain, and the rest of the human high command have a decision to make. Do they stand on the defensive, waiting for the massive second invasion they all know will come? Or do they consider another option, one that compels them to face overwhelming odds, and launch a strike that could end the war in one campaign?
The attack ship Hornet returned home after a miraculous run through enemy space, and her crew brought with them priceless intelligence... the location of a world of the First Imperium. In the capitals of Earth, the ruling classes call for caution, for the armed forces to stand on the defensive. But on the frontier, Garret and his compatriots are planning something different, and they do not intend to be deterred. They are going to take the war to the enemy. They are going to march into hell's heart.

Has gotten very old...can't take it any longer
20% story, 80% same old battles with the same terrible narration. I have slugged through these books in spite of the terrible narration but have now had it. He has an extensive set of superior characters but fails to develop them as well as the potentially excellent story arc. However, the author instead focuses on the now tedious battle sequences while repeating many of the same old phrases. The narrator's range of voices is obviously very limited and many of them do not even "fit" what one would expect a real character to even sound like. When men sound like women something is wrong. So I surrender. The story line is failing, it battles repetitious and I can no longer take the narration for what little bit of new storyline there is. The series had great potential but the author failed it on many fronts. Truly a shame but can't take any more.
One Huge Nitrous Hit of Character Dialogue
Would you consider the audio edition of To Hell's Heart to be better than the print version?
Did not buy book, so I would have to say....Yes. The audio edition is at least 3 leagues above mere paper and ink. It might serve you well to have book in hand while listening. Then again, maybe you should just sit there and listen to this gem.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I have a group favorite character. Every male captain, Group Leader and Chief Intelligence Officer in this audiobook sounds like either prepubescent pimple-faced pussbags, de-balled eunochs, near sighted nerdlings or that kid in the Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer Christmas Special who wanted to be a dentist when he grew up. You remember him, don't you? Also, my sympathies go out to Grand Admiral Powell for reasons elaborated below.
    It's amazing.
