WHAT AN ENJOYABLE LITTLE GEM THIS WAS

I really didn't expect to like this listen as much as I did but it's all thanks to Mia Sosa's well crafted loveable characters, their unusual journey to the HEA and the awesome narration. Drool worthy, super hot and sexy Ethan has been a bad boy but now he's paying for it - as CEO of a very successful Tech Company he can't afford the scandal of yet another speeding ticket so chooses the lesser of two evils.... Community Service. The non-profit Charity that's been blessed with his presence is Learn To Net which is spearheaded by a very sexy, curvy and beautiful brunette called Graciela and she's the only reason he's picked her Charity..... he thinks he might as well 'enjoy' himself while he's there.

However, what he wasn't prepared for was the instant chemistry and sexual attraction that heated up between them but, because he'd joined them undercover and using a different name, he also wasn't prepared for the debilitating guilt about all the lies that were spilling out and piling up. And, because of this, he fought their attraction for quite a while.... until Graciela made him an offer he couldn't refuse.... no string sexcapades until his 200 hrs sentence was up. But what should've been a casual fling quickly turned into much more as the passion, sex, conversations and tender times brought them even closer together.

Ethan had to do both his own CEO job and the Charity's job too and Ethan found that he actually looked forward and enjoyed the freedom of being his old self - able to brainstorm and toss ideas around at the Charity. He also mixed with the people who came in to learn about computing - especially the elderly group of women who teased, leered and had witty and sassy conversations with him. He believed in the good work that Learn To Net was doing but they were facing closure if they didn't get funding.... funding he could so easily provide but his hands were tied by his secrets and lies. But, as always, secrets get found out and the fallout was devastating and heartbreaking to both of them.

Worth a credit? This listen was very enjoyable, funny, sexy and romantic with a good cast of secondary characters - including Gracie's interfering parents who desperately wanted Grandbabies, a loveable charming and hard working hero whose character was transformed by the deep love he felt for a strong heroine and the dual POV awesome narration brought it all to life.

A fun, not to serious book

At first the talking dog with different actors voices seemed a little off. But as you read on it starts to blend in nicely with the story. Ellen gets good advice from skip, her dog, and protection when needed. After a bad marriage, does she find love again, with guidance from skip? You have to read and find out :) It really is another good book by Donne Mabry.

Skip to the rescue!!

I enjoyed this book. Why? Well because I too talk to my dog. However my dog has never answered me back in various voices or in any voice.

Mention was made of the many forgotten dogs in the various dog pounds and the cruelty of humans towards other animals. This abhorrent behaviour to animals makes me wish that every dog could voice his or her opinion on what they think of their owners. Skip is a delightful Labrador who has been there and done that. He is not shy about demanding what he wants and why he should get it. Pet lovers out there should read this book because although we have loved and have looked after our dogs, cats, budgies etc for centuries, we can still forget their needs such as well made dog houses for outside. As was expected with this type of book all's well that ends well! A delightful story when you do not want to read something intense. Well done to Donna Mabry for reminding us of how special dogs are. I have two dogs and wish I could love and support many more. However our local vets (as good as they are!) are also very expensive which can be the down side to having too many pets.

Cute story

This was a cute story, very different than what I usually read, but I love books by Donna Mabry, so I thought I'd try it. There were a lot of mistakes though, and that always disappoints me. I believe it said this was a revised edition so it was surprising.

I found it to be very sweet and special

I was not sure what to expect with this book, I found it to be very sweet and special. It is just a neat little book, I thoroughly enjoyed it.... very entertaining. I choose to believe that perhaps this is actually true to some degree, I feel a connection so special with my little dog and feel often that she is conveying her opinion to me. This book gave me a very interesting perspective on that.

Don't Miss This Wonderfully Written book !

I am very much a dog person. Odd since I did not get my first two (brother & sister) until I quite long in the tooth. I love good dog books and I have been lucky to read some wonderful ones like, "A Dogs Purpose", "A Dogs Journey" and "Racing in the Rain" to name just a few. But I have also read some terrible ones. Written by someone hoping to make a few dollars. I was really doubtful about "Conversations with Skip". But since I had read many of Donna Mabry books and never been disappointed I decided to read it. I am so I glad I did.

A great light hearted funny read

I loved this book and the cast of crazy characters are sensational. It had me laughing out loud at times and eager to know what crazy antics they will get up to next.

As I commute quite a distance to work Audio books are a great alternative to the boring radio or same old playlist everyday. It would be nice to have the other books in this series in Audio as well. I would have already read them one following the other if they were. As it is I'm waiting for my next holiday to read them.

Loved it!

Their love has always been a disaster, and when it all came to a head, Bobbi and Shane were left in tatters. Bobbiâs moved on with her life, becoming some plastic, pseudo-perfect version of her former self and getting engaged to a guy who is everything she could ever want â on the surface.

Shane knows better than to think he and Bobbi will ever be anything but explosive together â and not in a good way. Theyâd ripped each other apart before he landed in prison, and now that heâs back, sheâs a shadow of the woman he remembers. But when she shows up at a bar instead of at her own wedding, theyâre in for a messy trip down memory lane.

But...

Unfortunately, the editing is just as bad in this one as it was in Offside. Still a great story, but the mistakes were pretty glaring, and it just irks the hell out of me when a story I love this much doesnât get that part of the work it deserves.

The Verdict: Okay, I have to admit that I absolutely hated Bobbi in Offside, and that made me curious about seeing things through her jaded eyes. But what I really wanted to read about was Shane. He was so incredibly hot in the first book, even though he wasnât a main player, that I was dying to see more of him.

Sadly, the closer look into Shaneâs mind took away some of that delectable mystery I loved about him so much in Offside, but damned if he wasnât still just as twisted up and hot as Iâd hoped. Itâs clear that despite every bit of hurt in their pasts, he and Bobbi belong together, and heâs not about to let her get away this time.

And Bobbiâ Well, I warmed up to her in the first chapter. Sheâd clearly been wearing a mask for far too long, her way of coping with the problems at home and her broken heart. The snark and banter between her and Shane was to die for, and their chemistry was off the charts.

Of course, like most romances, there was also a secret to be revealed, but it was more heartbreaking than dark, and instead of creating a rift between them, it forced them to reevaluate things and actually give into their very real feelings for each other. All in all, Collide is another great book, just as evil as the first one in that it made me immediately buy the next one in the series.

You can't go wrong with Bobbi's story. Bobbi feels she must be the strong one that stays to help out the family and be responsible.

The reader did a great job. Each character had its one distinct sound. But the story was just so-so. I found it hard to pay attention at times.

The performance was better then most

Story good. Slower at the end. Reader above par!!! She had different voices for each character. It really made the story.

Unbelievably bitchy sisters.

If my sisters were like Poppy's, I'd be punching them in the face daily. Talk about pushy, bossy and bitchy..... they turned me off of the entire story.

sweet,light read

This was a sweet, light read, with very little drama. Mia found out when her sister died who fathered her niece that she is left to take care of. Her sister asked her before she died to find the baby's dad.

After taking care of the sweet baby for four months, there is no way she can just drop the baby off with the dad and walk away. She has to make sure he will be a good father to the baby she has already bonded with. Alex is a recluse and it took her 4 months to find out who he was, and where he lived. She went to the beach near his home. It just so happened that Alex was done swimming. and was walking out of the ocean, when Mia stepped on a glass bottle and cut her foot. He used his mad first aid skills to help her, and that's how the two met. She couldn't just drop a bombshell on him, like guess what? you're a dad. So she took a little while to get to know him first.

The baby didn't warm up to Alex right away, so Mia and the baby moved in with Alex. It was sweet how Mia helped the two bond. Alex was really upset. Every time he held little Rose she would cry. He cherished the time holding his daughter, when she fell asleep. Mia was slowly falling for the sweet, sexy, wealthy recluse. She knew Alex was a good man, and felt bad she didn't tell him right away. Once Alex found out, he didn't trust Mia. It took awhile for trust to be built back, and for the two to fall into Love.

Every once in a while you just need a sweet, light read, with no action, no bad guys, and very little drama. This book was perfect. It left my heart warm, and happy.

I have not enjoyed this series. I did not like the first book and this one is only marginally better. I did not like the way that Mia broke the news to Adam. I thought she was better than this and that pretty much made the whole book not one of my favorites. I did not like the way that the baby reacted to Adam. She just never connected to her father until the end of the book. This book was slow paced and not that interesting to me. I did like the wedding of Jessie and Zane from the first book. I hope that the final book in this series is better. I wouldn't buy unless you have already started this series.

A light, mostly humorous mystery

Lilly Atkins left small town Brooks, Oklahoma to be a big city lawyer in Dallas, and was quite successful at--until everything came crashing down with the discovery of her fiancé in their shared bed with his secretary. Now she's home in Brooks, setting up a local law practice.

She knows she's got trouble when her high school on-and-off boyfriend walks in the door, wanting her to handle his divorce. She just doesn't know how much trouble.

Lilly Atkins and her female family and friends take the duties and responsibilities of Southern womanhood very seriously, and that means some entertaining petty revenge when the husband of one of their number is caught cheating on her. It's a bit less clear what it means when Lilly's former boyfriend, now a doctor and running the local hospital, in addition to wanting a divorce, may also be engaged in organ smuggling.

The overall tone of this is light and humorous, and yet it really is, in part, about organ smuggling. That created a certain dissonance for me, that I wasn't happy about. Of course, it's also about small town closeness, the importance of family and friends, and remembering where you came from, and the light humor is far more appropriate for that.

I do rather like Lilly.

Enjoyable, if you're only looking for a light distraction sort of read.

Funny

I really liked the dry sense of humor....I lived in OK a lifetime ago. They are like this. I wish the narrator had been a little better. Her accent was great, she hit the humor....but, a little more emotion would have made it better. Looking forward to the second book.

Missed the humor

I am always leery of author's who do their own narration. I should have listen to my instincts. I missed the humor that the other reviewers indicated, and that was my main reason for listening.

Must listen (or read)

I listened to Home Is Where Your Boots Are during a road trip. I am a small town born and raised southerner who now lives in a city. My drive was a trip back home and this story had me giggling in the car. The characters are relatable for those with a similar background yet charismatic enough to entertain those with different roots. The plot is a mystery filled with romance and many pages of humor. The characters and personalities are vivid. Can't wait for a movie one day! The author and narrator grew into the characters as she read with each becoming more distinct throughout the reading. I look forward to the sequel which is already downloaded and ready for my next trip.

I was pleasantly surprised by "Home is Where Your Boots Are." I listened to it on my drive to and from work everyday and really enjoyed it. The book kept me on my toes and actually got me excited to get in the car each day (which, if you know me, you know I loathe driving). Aside from being a talented author, I believe Kalan has a real knack for narration! Her different voices and accents kept me entertained and really helped to bring the story to life. You won't regret purchasing this book!
