Audi offices and senior Volkswagen employees were raided on the same day as their annual press conference. Audi said they were cooperating with prosecutors. To read more click here. A French government agency has accused Renault of cheating emission tests for over twenty years! The chaps do not need to remind anyone that for them to do so must mean they have some compelling evidence. To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - REMINDER VOTE IN AUTOCAR’S READERS’ CHAMPION AWARD

Having previously mentioned Autocar’s Readers’ Champion list of cars, this is a quick reminder that the vote closes this week, so click on the link here to make your opinion count! The result will be announced on 23 May at their annual awards ceremony.

FOLLOW UP - LAZIROUS ZENOS

You will recall that the chaps sadly mentioned the end of Zenos Cars, but it looks as though that is all set for change. A consortium, including backers of AC Cars, have stepped in and bought the assets. To read more click here.

TOYOTA INVESTS IN BURNASTON PLANT

The Burnaston Toyota plant will get a £240 million pound investment, to enable it to build cars from their global architecture. To read more click here.

PSA TO BUY PROTON?

Geely has pulled out of buying Proton, and therefore Lotus. Geely stated that Proton management was too indecisive during negotiations. This leaves PSA as the only other option, at this time. To read more click here.

UBER CRASH NOT ALL IT WAS REPORTED

In the continuing car crash (sorry, not sorry) that is Uber’s recent PR, one of their self-driving Volvo’s was involved in a traffic accident in Arizona. The press was quick to leap on this, but most forgot to mention it was the fault of another vehicle, that was driven by one of those dangerous and pesky humans! To read more click here.

BUGATTI CHIRON

ØSTBERG OUT OF CORSICA

Mads Østberg will not be racing in Corsica in the WRC. Lack of testing in a suitable car is the reason given. He does not believe he will be able to push for the win as he won’t get a chance to practice with a car that has the correct suspension. That would make it a bit trickier. The rally will take place between 6 - 9 April. To read more click here.

FORMULA E IN MEXICO

The next round of Formula E takes place this weekend in Mexico City. As ever, when we get confirmation of TV listings we will tweet them out. In more good news, Formula E announced nine manufacturers who have been accepted until 2021. These include DS, BMW and Mahindra. To read more click here.

AIR PURIFYING BILLBOARD

Toyota Muria billboards, in California, will act as air purifiers. These will be coated with titanium dioxide coated vinyl which will act similarly to a catalytic converter. By using sunlight, wind, and humidity the coating will remove nitrogen from nitrogen dioxide and leave the oxygen. To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - VW ADMITS GUILT

Last week, Volkswagen pleaded guilty to criminal charges in the US. Their lawyer stated they pleaded guilty because they were. This sounded like a change in tact and language from VW. To read more click here. 

FOLLOW UP - VW THREATENS EUROPEAN OWNERS

In a move that seems at odds with Volkswagen's change to a more apologetic and contrite stance, they have threatened European owners. Some owners have stated that their car, following the 'fix', has less power and poorer fuel economy. VW are adamant that the fix doesn't affect the cars negatively. To read more click here.

JOHN SURTEES PASSES AWAY

The sad news was announced, that John Surtees CBE, died last week. Of course, he was famous for being the only person to be champion, in both F1 and motorcycle world championship. To read more about John Surtees click here.

SPRING 2017 BUDGET

In the UK, we are lucky to be getting two Budgets this year. The first was announced last week and there was a little bit that car owners need to pay attention to. Fuel Duty will remain frozen again. £650 million is pledged to improve local transport networks. Money is being provided for autonomous and connected vehicle research. There is no mention of a diesel scrappage scheme, but the chaps fully expect the anti-diesel wave to hit in the autumn announcement. To read more click here.

ADVERTISING REGULATOR SAYS NO TO TOUCH SCREENS

The Advertising Regulator has told Jaguar off for focusing on their touch screen technology whilst the car is being driven. Andrew is struck by the fact that this has not been raised by automotive safety organisations. Whilst a touch screen has the inherent issue of requiring the user to look at it to make sure the correct portion is being touched. Also, the need to look away from the road is not good. NISSAN CHIEF DESIGNER TO RETIRE

Shiro Nakamura, Nissan's chief designer, announced his intention to retire. He will be replaced by Alfonso Albaisa, who head's up Infiniti's design. Karim Habib, ex-BMW, will fill the vacant slot at Infiniti. To read more click here.

MEEK WINS RALLY MEXICO

After two rounds of bad luck, Meek used a lot of the good variety up in winning the Rally Mexico. In another incredibly exciting event, that TV covered wonderfully, we were kept gripped right up to the finish. Thierry Neuville also finished a rally for the first time this year, ending up third. FORMULA E DOUBLE-HEADER IN BERLIN

After the Belgium race was canceled organisers have been working on ensuring there are 12 races this season. Berlin will now host a double-header weekend. To read more click here.
