FOLLOW UP - WINTERKORN FACED GERMAN MPs

Former Volkswagen CEO Winterkorn appeared in front of German parliamentary enquiry into the #Dieselgate scandal. Apart from declaring he had no early knowledge of the issue not a lot was said due to ongoing legal investigations. To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - VW TO REIMBURSE FULL PRICE IN GERMANY

Volkswagen has lost a civil case, in Germany, and been ordered to pay back the full price for a Skoda Yeti. Their defence that the individual(s) who were responsible could not be identified yet was not sufficient. VW are confident their appeal will overturn this. To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - MONTE CARLO RALLY

Over the weekend the Monte Carlo Rally took place. Unfortunately, it got off to a dreadful start with the death of a spectator. However, the racing itself was fascinating and full of drama. In the end Sebastien Ogier won in a M-Sport Ford Fiesta. Toyota taking second with Jari-Matti Latvala bringing the Yaris in home second. Third was clung on to by Ott Tanak in the other M-Sport Ford. PAOLO STANZANI HAS DIED

Paolo Stanzani, the creator of the Lamborghini Miura, has died. He was one of a team of young employees who are credited with saving the company. To read more click here.

OSLO BANS DIESELS

Oslo has temporarily banned cars from it’s roads in an effort to tackle pollution. This has not been met with uniform acceptance as in 2006 the government encouraged people to buy diesel cars. Similar to the UK, drivers feel they are being unfairly targeted. To read more click here.

ZENOS GOES BUST

Zenos Cars have gone into receivership. The company put the reason as a downturn in orders. People on social media was busy trying to work out what went wrong. The general sentiment was sadness though as, by all accounts, they made a cracking car. Maybe a buyer can be found. To read more click here.

CRIT’AIR STICKERS ARE GO

To drive in Paris now you must display the correct colour coded sticker which will indicate you are permitted to do so. Higher polluting vehicles are banned between specific times or completely from the streets of Paris. Failure to do so will result in a €68 fine. To read more click here.

NISSAN LOOKS INWARDS

Nissan revealed the first winners of their initiative for employees to suggest ways for the company to improve and offer customers more. To read more click here.

FOUR YEARS FOR FIRST MOT

The Government is mooting the idea of increasing the timescale of the first MOT, for new cars, to four years. The podcast does not agree with this. To read more click here.

GOODWOOD THEME ANNOUNCED

Goodwood has announced the theme for the Festival of Speed, which will be ‘Peaks of Performance – Motorsport’s Game-Changers’. Cars to be featured include Group B rally cars and turbocharged F1 cars, amongst others. The chaps are quite upset, as it looks as though they cannot make the event. To read more click here.

MOBILE PHONE CLAMPDOWN

During one week, nearly 8000 drivers were stopped over mobile phone use. Unfortunately, for this to happen the police had to make a special effort, as they are so constrained by lack of resources. FOLLOW UP - FBI ARREST VW EXEC

Oliver Schmidt was arrested in Florida last week, accused of conspiring to prevent US regulators from finding out about the defeat devices. More executives have also been charged. To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - VW EXECUTIVES CHOSE TO CONCEAL DEFEAT DEVICE

The case against Schmidt revealed that the Volkswagen executive management knew about the devices but decided to continue to conceal them. To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - DRAFT SETTLEMENT AGREED IN US

Volkswagen has reached a draft agreement over a settlement with US regulators. This includes $4.3 billion fine, pleading guilty to breaking US laws. FOLLOW UP - RENAULT INVESTIGATION GOES FURTHER

A year after the RAIDS on their headquarter, Renault has learned that findings have been passed on for judicial review. Renault maintains their vehicles meet all French and European regulations. To read more click here.

FCA EMISSIONS INVESTIGATED

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is accused of using defeat devices. FCA denies any wrongdoing. Approximately 100,000 vehicles in the US and 600,000 in Europe are thought to be fitted with emission cheating software. To read more click here. This has resulted in news that the Department for Transport will carry out tests on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, as it did with VWs. To read more click here.

DETROIT MOTOR SHOW

The chaps are a bit underwhelmed by the offerings of the show, this year. Only a small number of cars are worthy of a mention.

FORMULA E SIM RACE

Formula E held their first Visa Vegas eRace where Formula E drivers and sim racers took to the stage at CES. The winner walked away with $200,000 and $25,000 for pole. This is brilliant for eSports as well as Bono Huis, the Faraday Future Dragon Racing sim racer. To read more click here.

PEUGEOT WIN DAKAR RALLY 2017

Peugeot finished an amazing Dakar Rally in 1, 2, 3 style! Stephane Peterhansel claiming the top prize with Sebastien Loeb in second. Andrew is now waiting for back seats to be fitted to the cars so he can demonstrate how they are practical family cars. To read more click here.

WRC RETURNS THIS WEEK

The World Rally Championship’s new season starts this week in Monte Carlo. There are new manufacturers involved this year with some cracking looking cars. This may well mean another motorsport is to be followed by the podcast. To read more click here.
