FOLLOW UP - EU v UK AND OTHERS
Andrew has a theory about this now. The EU is taking countries to court because it doesn’t have the power to prosecute a company for breaking the environmental laws it believes Volkswagen has. This is something the member states must do. They have not so the EU can take legal action against them.
FOLLOW UP - CANADIAN CLASS ACTION AGREEMENT REACHED
VW and a Canadian class action suit has agreed a settlement for the 2.0l engines. The total value is $2.1 billion Canadian Dollars, with similar actions as the US ones, including buy-backs, early release from leases, emission modifications etc. To read more click here.
FOLLOW UP - US OWNERS HAND IN THEIR CARS
A Jalopnik article describes how some owners, who have accepted Volkswagen’s offer to buy back their car, are handing them over with some parts missing. The key wording is as long as the car is “Operative”. To see more about how people are exploiting a loophole click here.
FOLLOW UP - NEW AUDI A3 ACCUSED OF HAVING A DEFEAT DEVICE
There are reports that the new Audi A3 2.0 TD has a defeat device. Audi has stated they cannot comment on this as they don’t have any info on the test, the results or what car was tested. To read more click here.
LAND ROVER DEFENDS DEFENDER NAME
Land Rover has won a case against Bombardier Recreational Products which means Bombardier cannot use “Defender” on their products. To read more click here.
ZAP-MAP ADDS LIVE INFO
Zap-Map, the online service which provides a map of charging points around the UK, including what type of charging point they are. They have now added live information showing if a point is being used. This sounds a great logical step in such a map’s development. To read more click here.
UBER ARGUE ABOUT DRIVERLESS DEFINITION
Uber have added San Fransisco to locations where they are testing autonomous driving technology. The Californian authorities require a permit for “autonomous vehicles”, Uber state their vehicles are not, as they have a driver who monitors the vehicle and is poised to take control at a moments notice. The Californian authorities disagree. We will watch this to see how it unfolds. The precedence will be set about what the wording of the legislation actually covers. HOT YARIS ANNOUNCED
As it’s Christmas, Toyota has given Alan a present, they have announced a hot Yaris! So far we only have sketches for Alan to dribble over, but we are assured it is happening. Andrew has apologised to Toyota GB for Alan’s upcoming behavior, but did tell them was their own fault! To read more click here.
TOYOTA AND DAIHATSU TEAM UP
Toyota and Daihatsu will be producing compact cars targeting emerging markets. There is no plans to brings these cars to the UK, but Andrew questions whether that will remain the case following the success of DACIA, amongst others. To read more, click here.

#PROJECT2CV PROGRESS
Ian Seabrook has posted an update of progress on the 2CV reassembly. He is adding red paints to various elements and has added the wiring. Ian’s plan is to get it back on the road by mid-January. Hopefully, he manages that. To see more click here.
