Richard and Max fly to Ubud, Bali. They stay at Hotel Tjampuhan. They dine at Murni's Warung, then the next day they do a lot of walking taking in the Ubud Market and Monkey Forest.They do a Balinese cooking class. To start their return journey, they fly to Darwin, then Alice Springs. Then they take the Ghan Train to get back to Adelaide, after which they take the Overland Express to get back to Melbourne.

Tony Wilson lets Richard know that his funeral business is definitely on the market. Richard keeps quiet about his new financial position. Richard and Max decide to purchase Tony and Jan's business.The two couples discuss the potential sale and agree to proceed.

The start of part 2 of The Trilogy. Richard receives an unexpected letter from a legal firm in Adelaide, South Australia. Richard and Max take the 'Overland Express' to Adelaide the following week to attend a meeting at the law firm's office. Richard learns that he is the only beneficiary of a distant relative's sizeable estate. This turns Richard's and Max's lives around.

Max gets measured for a suit hire. The Wimmera River is in flood. Richard and Max pick up their new rings. Max becomes an ad hoc funeral assistant for Lester's funeral. Richard conducts Lester's funeral. Afterwards, Richard needs to return to the cemetery.

Richard and Max visit Lester in hospital. Richard "proposes" to Max but as same-sex couples cannot marry, they decide to get matching rings anyway. They meet Ivy in a jewelry shop. Richard visits Lester in hospital for the last time. Flood rains from the remnants of a cyclone sweep across the Wimmera, and at the same time, Lester dies. Lester's pre-arranged funeral is put into place.

Max goes with Richard to deliver tree and shrub seedlings to several Wimmera towns. They later receive a visit from Lester who brings them the last of his home-brewed beer. Some days later the couple are visited by Michael the bee-keeper. Michael mentions his upcoming divorce and the reason for it. Then he asks Richard and Max a surprise question, to which they respond positively. The next day, they learn that Lester is in hospital.

Lester's sheep and farm machinery are sold off. Lester and family take a brief holiday in Melbourne. Richard and Max receive a letter from Steven. A few weeks later, Steven comes to Golton Island for dinner. While there, Steven tells Richard and Max of his new relationship.

Richard and Max take vegetables to Lester's family. Lester announces that he has more shearing coming up and he unexpectedly asks Richard to be the rousy. Richard readily takes to his new role. Anne's conservatism shows through. Max plays a prank on Lester in the shearing shed. On the last day of shearing, Max captures a memorable photo of Richard and Lester. Some days later, Lester visits and talks of a medical problem he has.

Richard introduces Max to yabbies in their own waterhole. They catch, cook and eat about fifty yabbies. They receive a visit from Steven who announces that he's moving to Melbourne to study photography. Then Steven 'outs' himself to Richard and Max. The next day, the two men experience an enormous shock.

Richard and Max have a visit from Steven who has a story to tell them. Max and Richard go to Hollow Mountain for a picnic to discover Lester and his family already there. Ann is cool toward them and Lester is disappointed. While Richard and Max are exploring Hollow Mountain together, the Coyne family go home. The two men then go to Mount Zero. While there, Richard walks into a medical emergency.
