From 2012: One song. That’s all it took to convince me that I wanted Archie Powell of Archie Powell & The Exports as a guest on this show. It was the video for a song called “Crazy Pills.” I found the visuals instantly cool and the music matched up perfectly. The band rocks hard and fast, pouring out a mainstream pop sound with clever lyrics—you try writing a song that makes the word “Metronome” sound melodic – and a style that is all their own while reminding us of everyone from The Romantics

From 2012: Every 10 or 20 years, Ward Smith and I cross paths. The first time was back in 1987 when I start Jump Monthly. Back then, we profiled Ward – an up-and-coming local standup comedian whose father, Hugh, the long-time anchor of our then CBS affiliate’s evening news, was a local icon. Earlier this year, Ward resurfaced on Facebook, announcing his new career as an actor. Lucky guy -- he landed guest roles on USA’s “Burn Notice” and Lifetime’s “Army Wives.”

From 2012: Somewhat quietly, Lester Holt has become an NBC News star. It started innocently enough as he began appearing in all sorts of situations for the network, reporting here, filling in there and hosting “Lester Holt Live” on MSNBC. He became the ubiquitous anchor of cable and broadcast news for the peacock, able to step into any situation and deliver calm, level-headed journalism no matter what was happening around him.

From 2010: If you’re wondering which one of David Duchovny’s women Ellen Woglom played on Showtime’s “Californication,” get your mind out of the gutter right now. He actually slept with the woman who played her mother on that series, Embeth Davidtz ; Ellen was best friends with Hank’s daughter. On “Outlaw,” Ellen is “Mereta Stockman,” Smits’ law clerk and a hopeless romantic.

From 2007: Not many people have managed to land the words Nazi and funny in the same sentence. Charlie Chaplin did it in The Great Dictator. Mel Brooks did it in The Producers with the song and dance number "Springtime for Hitler." And my guest today, the Emmy-nominated Larry Thomas, did it, too. Who the hell is Larry Thomas?
