Last episode Dick Shelton arrived at Kettley and found Sir Daniel waiting out the battle. Sir Daniel’s true character is exposed as he waits to see who will win the battle before he picks a side.

Sir Daniel sends Dick back to the Moat House to deliver a message to Sir Oliver. Along the way Dick meets Jack Matcham and promises to take him to the abbey in Holywood. They run into a group of outlaws led by Ellis Duckworth; they ran from the outlaws and found a safe place to sleep for the night.
