Well, well, well. Look at who's back. You'd think this week's guest from Fightful and The Ringer would be here to celebrate the resurgent Texas Longhorns, but prepare to be amazed by the first (of many!) flexes by Cam this episode. We talk Coco, Alabama being bad, and Aaron Rodgers is about to be bedridden during an election year with 4Chan. Run.

Kriss & Dpalm are back to continue their rewatch of Agents of SHIELD with the first 11 episodes of Season 2. It's an understatement to say that business definitely picks up. Looking back at these 11 episodes, we can see the pace that AoS sets that is really just unmatched by any other show. This show also does a great job of establishing that character progression has happened in between the seasons and expects that the audience is capable of keeping up. We see Coulson trying to be director while also trying to hide his urge to carve weird alien writing in the wall, a complete change in Skye (even before her inhuman transformation) into a deadly and very capable SHIELD agent, the split between Fitz and Simmons, a softer side of May AND we get new team members like Hunter, Bobbi and Mack who fit right in.

And then there's Ward and the fact that you're led to believe that maybe, just maybe there's some hope to redeem him and then he just doubles down on being psychopath and it's glorious. Not many shows are capable of packing this much action, character development and story development into 11 episodes without at least one of those three things suffering. AoS does it and it does it by following the simple concept of "It's all connected"

Listen as we talk about these first 11 episodes of Season 2 and we'll be back later this month to wrap up the season.

Apologies for the delayed release. Baby Dpalm came a bit early and so we've been on a little hiatus

Thankfully we recorded the final episode in our Flash series earlier in the month. So without further ado, the finale of the Joshua Williamson run.

We end this run as any good Flash run should with a finale showdown between Barry and Eobard. Throughout the 15 volumes, we got a really good reintroduction of Barry Allen that paid homage to the entire Flash legacy. We get the return and reunion of the Flash Family from the Wally years (Jay, Bart, Max and more) which has been teased all run and then finally comes back together. This run really solidifies why Rebirth really was something different for DC. Instead of running from their past they embraced it and used to to create a new legacy. This is what makes this run so much fun to read.

Issues:

Volume 13 Rogues Reign

Volume 14 The Flash Age

Volume 15 Finish Line

We're back to finish up Season 1 of of our Agents of SHIELD rewatch. The first 13 episodes were really good and the pace was great. The back half of the season is even better. It's fun to go back and see all the threads and seeds that are painted in this first season. You know the season is great when you know the big reveal that's coming and it still hits you like a ton of bricks. Brett Dalton does such a great job turning heel and you feel the betrayal just like the team does. It's also a good reminder that this show never hesitated to kill people in horrible ways. Can't wait to move onto Season 2.

If you like craziness, boy these last few days of college football has been right down your alley. We've got the MTR EIC on the line to go over realignment ridiculousness, MMA messiness and baseball brawls. No matter how bad your weekend was, at least you didn't get knocked out on television during a fight you started.

Highly anticipated release, Infinity Pool, marked writer/director Brandon Cronenberg's (Possessor, 2020 Sundance) festival return in the Midnight section lineup. It's taking a few more steps off the beaten path in his twisted exploration of the ravages to human soul. So buckle up because there's so much to unpack...

Director: Brandon Cronenberg

Screenwriters: Brandon Cronenberg

Starring: Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth, Cleopatra Coleman

Runtime:  118 minutes

Sundance Synopsis: James and Em Foster take off to an all-inclusive beach getaway in the fictional state of Li Tolqa to help jump-start his writer’s block. Their lazy days are spent relegated to their pricey resort, isolated from the surrounding land. Gabby introduces herself and her partner, Al, as she’s a fan of James’ last novel, and they would like to spend some time together with the Fosters. The couples plan a secret daytrip outside the compound that ends in a fatal accident with James to blame. For a hefty price, there are loopholes to aid foreign travelers convicted of crimes there, which is how James is first introduced to a perverse subculture of hedonistic tourism.

*originally run on January 29, 2023 as part of the MTR Network's Sundance 2023 coverage

Snapshot Review:

Don't be fool by the slick cinematic treatment and debauchery, Cronenberg's here to push you to think about how you justify your choices. Infinity Pool's a vulgar, darkly humorous, incisive commentary on privilege, enticement, and the destruction of soul.

Horror movies set at a travel destination open the door for an almost unimaginable spiral into violence that only seems to happen when you exist in a reality vacuum. Infinity Pool leans into that vacuum to create an environment ripe for corruption. There's a persistent forceful disconnect in the narrative that results in one chaotic-as-hell allegory.

Listen and Ro and guest critic Richard Newby dig into Infinity Pool.

Infinity Pool opened in theaters January 27, 2023 and is currently streaming on Hulu.
