We're cooking with charcoal over here, talking the weirdness of Juneteenth ads, US beating Mexico 3-0 and all the chaos that followed, and Ja Morant catching 25 games for his stupidity.

  • Interview with author Matt Wallace
    A Conversation with Matt Wallace
I had the opportunity to sit down with author Matt Wallace and discuss his epic fantasy trilogy. This epic opens with a seeming utopian society that relies on an expendable fighting force known as the Savages. Now there are plenty of books about empire building and fantasy worlds about a lurking evil beneath the surface of a seemingly peaceful society. But the Savage Rebellion offers action, intrigue, hidden dangers, and shifting loyalties bound up in an examination about the costs of ruling.
Listen in as I chat with Matt about how the Savage Rebellion came to be and writing metaphorically without off the rails. Then go read (or listen to) the three books in the trilogy. You'll thank me later.
Click the Image to buy Matt Wallace's Savage Rebellion trilogy:
Synopsis: They call them Savages. Brutal. Efficient. Expendable. The empire relies on them. The Savages are the greatest weapon they ever developed. Culled from the streets of their cities, they take the ones no one will miss and throw them, by the thousands, at the empire's enemies. If they live, they fight again. If they die, there are always more to take their place.
Evie is not a Savage. She's a warrior with a mission: to find the man she once loved, the man who holds the key to exposing the secret of the Savage Legion and ending the mass conscription of the empire's poor and wretched.
But to find him, she must become one of them, to be marked in her blood, to fight in their wars, and to find her purpose. Evie will die a Savage if she has to, but not before showing the world who she really is and what the Savage Legion can really do.

Synopsis: A war has begun. Savages, the empire’s most valuable resource, have been thrown at their captors’ enemies long enough. If their rebellion succeeds, it will undo a nation. At the helm of this Savage uprising is Evie, the Sparrow General. It isn’t a title she asked for or particularly wants, but she is the last hope for several peoples at the edge of extinction. Back in the empire’s city seat, Dyeawan, a brilliant young strategist…

Synopsis: The final war for the nation of Crache has begun. At the helm of the people’s rebellion is Evie, the Sparrow General. She has been captured by the Skrian, Crache’s vicious army, and is being brought back to the Capitol for punishment. But reinforcements are coming for her.
Dyeawan, who has climbed from street urchin to Crache’s highest seat of power through clever schemes and ruthless bloodshed, finds trouble on every front once she arrives. The rebellion approaches, and there are whispers of a martyr within the city who holds enough sway to stage a coup. If she doesn’t act quickly, her rule will be short-lived.
As the women who hold the nation’s future meet each other from different sides of the battlefield, will they be able to find a shared vision of Crache, or will they destroy each other first?

The final book Savage Crowns releases June 13, 2023. It's a magnificent end to one hell of a ride

  • Joshua Williamson’s Flash Volumes 10, 11 & Year One - Character Corner #112
We delayed the release of this episode until Kriss was out of town. We also timed it right around the time the Flash review dropped. Enjoy.
Post Flash War, Barry turns back into a student and has to go through a bit of a re-education phase. This fits right in with the Joshua Williamson theme of taking Barry Allen on a journey we really haven't seen him in before. A lot of this feels familiar to those of us who grew up with Wally West as our Flash because we watched him go through the same journey. With Barry, its not only about him really studying the speed force but also learning that a Flash doesn't run alone. It's also really interesting to read the journey that Barry is on while also reading the journey that Batman is on in the King books. You'd like Bruce would be the depressed sounding pessimist but it's actually Barry.

    Volume 10: Force Quest
Volume 11: The Greatest Trick of All
    Year One

  • The Flash - Movie Trailer Reviews
    Director: Andy Muschietti
    Writers: Christina Hodsonn, Joby Harold
Starring: Sasha Calle, Ben Affleck, Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Michael Shannon
    Runtime: 2 hour 24 minutes
Synopsis: Barry Allen uses his super speed to change the past, but his attempt to save his family creates a world without super heroes, forcing him to race for his life in order to save the future.
Let's start off with an apology to Michael Keaton. For decades now there have been debates over which actor is truly the best Batman and for decades Mr. Keaton has been disrespected and written off in that debate. If there is one good thing to say about this Flash movie it's that it has solidified Michael Keaton as THEE Batman that all others should live up to. Hands down. There is so much wrong with this movie (starting with a problematic and horribly miscast lead) but between Michael Keaton putting this movie on his back and Sasha Calle's criminally underused Supergirl, it's at least worth checking out.
But let's make no mistake. Ezra Miller is one of the biggest problems with this film. Even outside of Miller's very disturbing and troubling criminal issues, Ezra was always miscast as Barry Allen. And now with this solo movie, there's two of them in this film and well, it just makes the miscast even more pronounce.
A bad lead, terrible CG and a script that takes the worst storylines from the Flash TV show and somehow do them even worse. That's what plagues this movie. But Keaton...Mr. Bruce Wayne...is good enough to keep this from being a complete disaster. Recast Ezra or do whatever. Just give me a full Batman film with Keaton as Batman. Give THAT to us. Oh and give Sasha Calle her Supergirl movie so she can properly shine.

  • Transformers Rise of the Beasts - Movie Trailer Reviews
    Director: Steven Caple Jr
Writers: Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, Josh Peters
Starring: Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Velez, Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage
    Runtime: 2 hour 7 minutes
Synopsis: During the '90s, a new faction of Transformers - the Maximals - join the Autobots as allies in the battle for Earth.
Ro & Kriss talk about the latest Transformers film that is clearly a clean break from the Bay-era of films and starts the franchise off in a new and better direction. If you wanted more robots in disguise and less humans, this is what you get. There's also a clear indication that they're finally moving towards one of the crossovers that has been discussed several time before. Listen as Kriss and Ro talk about Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

  • The Flash Season 9 Episodes 12 & 13 - Super Tuesday Recap
It's the end of an era as The Flash on CW comes to an end. It's been a wild ride with some really high highs and some really low lows. And that really sums up this final season as well. The final four episodes though did at least close the loop on themes from the entire show run so that's definitely some credit there. Are there things we wish that were done better? Absolutely? Did it feel like this season was filled with unnecessary tie-ins for other CW shows (And not the one we wanted *cough* Legends of Tomorrow *cough*)? Yup. But the show at least ends on the themes of family and Barry's growth with Iris which makes this at least a successful ending. It also makes us wonder what would have happened if not for all the interference from outside. Unfortunately we will never know. Instead we're left with hoping that the Flash movie turns out good and that the director realizes that Grant Gustin will always be the superior Barry Allen over Ezra Miller.
While this is the end for The Flash and our Arrowverse coverage, it's not the end yet for Super Tuesday Recap. Before we shut this show down we're going back to the beginning and are going to do a rewatch/review of Agents of SHIELD from the beginning. We'll be taking June off then will return in July to cover the first half of Season 1. So stay tuned.
