The highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is here and it was well worth the wait. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is an even better film than the original and sets up not just for a third film but even the possibility of bringing Miles to live action. Honestly, they should just polish off the Oscar for this film right now. No need to see what else comes out. Yes, it's that good.

  • Interview with Author Kat Howard
    Conversation with Kat Howard
A Sleight of Shadows released April 25, 2023 and immediately made Ro's top five list of April books. Listen in as Ro and Kat discuss her inspiration, writing process and her unflinching willingness to be ruthless when the story calls for it. Because, If you ask Ro, the best urban fantasy stories are the ones where things are dark and complicated.
Enter The Unseen World where the source of magic's been corrupted and it'll take more than a single confrontation to resolve the matter. Kat Howard confronts the price of magic by creating a world that makes you stare the real cost of winning, and happiness, directly in the eye with An Unkindness of Magicians. And now returns, six years later, with A Sleight of Shadows that forces you to wrestle with the question: how do you have a happily ever after if the world doesn't want it?
Click the Image to buy Kat Howard's Unseen World Duology:

Synopsis: In New York City, magic controls everything. But the power of magic is fading. No one knows what is happening, except for Sydney--a new, rare magician with incredible power that has been unmatched in decades, and she may be the only person who is able to stop the darkness that is weakening the magic. But Sydney doesn't want to help the system, she wants to destroy it. Sydney comes from the House of Shadows, which controls the magic with the help of sacrifices from magicians.

Synopsis: After taking down the source of the corruption of the Unseen World, Sydney is left with almost no magical ability. Feeling estranged from herself, she is determined to find a way back to her status as one of the world's most dangerous magicians. Unfortunately, she needs to do this quickly: the House of Shadows, the hell on earth that shaped her into who she was, the place she sacrificed everything to destroy, is rebuilding itself.
"The House of shadows sits on bones. All of the sacrifices, all of the magicians who died in Shadows, they're buried beneath the foundations. Bones hold magic."
The magic of the Unseen World is acting strangely, faltering, bleeding out from the edges. Determined to keep the House of Shadows from returning to power and to defeat the magicians who want nothing more than to have it back, Sydney turns to extremes in a desperate attempt to regain her sacrificed magic. She is forced to decide what she will give up and what she will lose and whether what must be destroyed is not only the House of Shadows, but the Unseen World itself.

  • Unanimous Decision: Different Sweeps, Same Broom
If you think you're too old for a music festival, you're probably right. But, since I don't learn anything, I'm already excited for next year's Hangout Music Festival. A messy eulogy, a changing protest and a Boston meltdown all on this week's UDPod flagship episode. Also, I couldn't get Pepas as outro music, so imagine it playing while I cackle through the Heat segment.

  • Joshua Williamson's Flash Volumes 7 - 9 - Character Corner #111
We're back with more of Joshua Williamson's Flash run. This time we're talking volumes 7 to 9 (issues 39 to 57). Williamson's run really feels like a great jumping on point for the Flash. Since it's during Rebirth, it gives us a great reintroduction of not only Barry Allen and Eobard Thawne but also Wally West. This part of the run felt like Williamson telling all of us that grew up with Wally as our Flash that his years as the Flash mattered. And while this series is centered on Barry, it felt good to get acknowledgement of Wally's years (decades) as the Flash.
    Issues:
The Flash Volume 7: Perfect Storm
The Flash Volume 8: Flash War
The Flash Volume 9: Reckoning of the Forces

  • Fast X Review - Movie Trailer Reviews
    Director: Louis Leterrier
    Writers: Dan Mazeau, Justin Lin
Starring: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Sung Kang,
    Runtime: 2 hour 21 minutes
Synopsis: Dom Toretto and his family are targeted by the vengeful son of drug kingpin Hernan Reyes.
I don't care what anyone says. The Fast & Furious movies used to be good for a bit of a streak there (5, 6 & 7). It's very clear the series took a nose dive after 7, which probably should have been the natural end of the series. The shift is clear. After Paul Walker died, the lead actor and character centered around Vin Diesel and he clearly has his own opinions on how the series should go. Justin Lin, who should be credited for saving these series, got chased off of Fast X a week into production and it shows. Fast X is a convoluted mess that doesn't make sense, has terrible action scenes and it some places forgets what story it's trying to tell because of terrible editing and scene transitions.
Again, people will say it doesn't matter and the films have always been ridiculous. But the last few Fast movies have clearly been a drop off from the height of this series that actually put out some good films.

  • Unanimous Decision: The Challenge World Championship
In 1992, MTV changed the world by showing us what happened when people stopped being polite and started getting real. In 1998, they showed us what happened when those people had to compete in physical challenges, and the blueprint of modern reality TV was born. Today, The Challenge remains the gold standard for reality TV competition, and this season on Paramount+ is no different. We talk the growth of the series, our personal fandoms and celebrate another season in the books. See you next season TJ. In probably like a month.

  • Unanimous Decision: Revenge of the Bubble
Remember when they told us that the Bubble Playoffs didn't count? No one tell the remaining teams in the NBA Playoffs. Cause we've got our final four, and it looks AWFULLY familiar. Before talking winners, we analyze losers and talk about the inevitable consequences of building sports revenue on the back of gambling.

  • The Flash S9E11 Review - Super Tuesday Recap
We're coming up on the end of the Flash series and while this wasn't a bad episode, we can't help but look back at the wasted time the other episodes in this shorter season had. With only 3 episodes left, it's a bit weird to only have Barry in the episode at the very end but we get it. Narratively it works, but as a whole we can see how this final season really suffered from the show not knowing this was going to be not only the final season but a shorter one at that. Hopefully the next 2 episodes do this show the justice it deserves and lands the plane.
